Finished watching Board Wages tonight. The servants dress up in the Bellamy's finery and drink champagne while the family is away. But James comes home and just for shits and giggles plays along and pretends to be Hudson. Later, he and Sarah have an almost-encounter. James is such a cad. He doesn't really mean to be, but he was raised to be a rich jackass, In the end, Sarah packs up and leaves 165 Eaton Place. Rose is heartsick, she's come to love Sarah.

The Mistress and The Maids was probably kind of scandalous back in the day. While Mrs. Bellamy has her portrait done, the same artist becomes infatuated with Sarah's look. She poses for him at his studio - in her skivvies - and he paints her in the nude, with Rose sitting alongside her on the bed in a state of bareback undress. Rose wasn't even there. He painted her based off Sarah's stories. A scandal ensues when the artist displays the paintings and Mr. B assumes artboy was sneaking in for a threesome with Rose and Sarah.

OK, just watched episode one, On Trial. One of the best eps of the whole show because it introduces Sarah. Who is arguably the most compelling character of the first few seasons. The thing that startled me was that there was footage at the end I'd never seen before, apparently edited for US TV. The last bit with Rose and Sarah in bed was longer and far more illuminating. Alfred was obviously a perv, but we hear him jerkin' it off camera. And Rose is really sweet to Sarah when she shows more vulnerability than we've seen thus far. The next ep is one of the lost eps in terms of the airings in the US.
