A couple of weeks ago I was driving my son to school when I took a left onto LaBrea, and, as usual, sat in traffic for a couple of minutes. As we waited for the construction bottleneck to ease up, we sang along with the new Shins CD. And then, at the same moment, we fell silent.

We were both noticing the same thing.

It was a billboard for a movie. There was actress Elisha Cuthbert, super-heavily made up-dare I say whorishly-- being used as the centerpiece of the most repulsive, horrifying, woman-hating, human- hating thing I have ever seen in public.

The first image had a black-gloved hand over her mouth, titled CAPTURE. Next, her eyes begged for rescue as her mascara ran and her bloody finger tried to pry its way out of a cage, titled CONFINEMENT.

In the next picture, titled TORTURE, she was encased in a strange mask, with tubes coming out of her nose, draining blood. Maybe. We couldn't figure out if it was tubes or a hook-that was another thing about it-you had to keep looking to figure out what the hell was going on.

The last frame was Elisha, may her career rest in peace after posing for this, hanging dead, lying on her back with one breast prominently displayed. The word in this frame was TERMINATION.

That night I had a nightmare about the billboard, and by the next morning, I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach. This wasn't just horror, this wasn't just misogyny... it was a grody combo platter of the two, the torture almost a punishment for the sexiness. It had come from such a despicable inhuman hatred place that it somehow managed to recall Abu Ghraib, the Holocaust, porn and snuff films all at once.

The more times over I read this blog story you have posted, Deb, the more I start to believe that this person who wrote the original article is confusing our beloved Chris Marquette film "The Girl Next Door (2004)" by Director Luke Greenfield, with the actual horror/smut film "The Girl Next Door" that shares the same TITLE but not the same story or actors/actresses (Elisha Cuthbert).

I can see how they would be confused because they share the same title. But rest assured these are two TOTALLY DIFFERENT films and this person has them confused. I dont believe the actress Elisha Cuthbert was on that billboard let alone even CASTED into that horror film. It was most like the actress from the HORROR film The Girl Next Door and this person simply got them mixed up and confused thinking they were one and the same film and that the actress on the board was Elisha.

This person needs to be made aware that these two films are two entirely seperate entities and the actress they saw on that terrible graphic billboard was not Elisha and was not made for the film we know and love (The Girl Next Door 2004) by Luke Greenfield. This article is not about our Chris film TGND but about the horror slasher smut film "The Girl Next Door."

Its easy to confuse the two because of the simliar title for those who dont know much about both films existence and having never seen them. I have seen both so I am aware of which one is which. This person obviously did not see either and is assuming they are one and the same and is involving Elisha Cuthbert in their anger. After Dark films has nothing to do with Luke Greenfield and Regency Enterprises and New Regency films.

I am going to attempt to contact this person and set the record straight explaining this to them. I feel you all should do the same so they know that billboard has nothing to do with OUR TGND film we love or anything to do with Elisha, her career, or Luke's TGND film. They need to be made aware so they wont be angry with this innocent comedy film we love and mixing it up assuming it is the despised horror film and the smut billboard advertisement for it they are trying to avoid and eradicate.

This is why I hate when films and music take COMMON phrases or titles and use them because then all you can do to seperate the films is search up the YEAR it was made, the CAST, or the DIRECTOR. This person DID NOT do that or do their research before launching into their tirade at Elisha or forming their angry group and it shows in bright colors.

Dont get me wrong, they had every right to be outraged by the PUBLIC violent billboard put grossly on display around children and people with traumas in their lives, and I support it 100% for them to want them taken down.  It is a terribly gross, misogynistic, and vulgar thing to put up in plain sight around women, children, mothers, rape/abuse victims, and other such people to have to look at such an eyesore.

But what I do NOT support is their unwillingness to INVESTIGATE the film they are despising and to actually go out and get INFORMATION about it and the actors or directors involved in it so they aren't mixing it up with another film that is HARMLESS and has nothing to do with what they saw.
