I found the film to be enjoyable. Just like the original trilogy was inspired by the 1930's serials and the 1930's period, so is this film based on the 1950's and the sci-fi films of the 1950's.

I know that some found the aliens (inter-dimensional beings) to not fit into an Indy film. But as I stated above it does fit into the period of the 1950's and the type of films that were released then.

The film begins with a convoy of military vehicles traveling down a road to a top secret military base. We soon learn that they aren't U.S. soldiers but Russians. The get into the base and Mac & Indy are pulled out of the trunks of the cars and Spalko forces Indy to help her find a certain crate in the warehouse. When they do find this certain crate we learn that it is from Roswell and is holding an alien corpse. Indy escapes and during the escape the Ark from Raiders is briefly seen. Indy and a Russian rocket out of the warehouse aboard a rocket sled. Indy stumbles away and comes upon a small desert town. A warning siren blares in the distance and he only has 1 minute to find someway to find shelter. He does find shelter in a fridge. The bomb goes off and the fridge with him inside are propelled in the air. It crashes to the ground and he falls out of it and he goes on top of a hill and he looks at the atomic mushroom cloud.

He eventually returns to the University where we learn that he is put on leave. That Marcus and his dad has died. He boards a train and a young man on a motorcycle pulls along side and yells at him. They are next seen in a small cafe and we learn that the young mans name is is Mutt Williams and that his mother is Marion Williams. Two KGB agents ask for the letter that Mutt just gave to Indy. To escape they start a fight with some local college students and Mutt & Indy escape aboard Mutt's motorcycle. Some nice sequences, especially at the end when the KGB car crashes into the Marcus Brody statue and Mutt looks at Indy and Indy looks back with the same look his dad did in the Last Crusade when they fought and escaped the Nazis aboard a cycle.

Mutt & Indy travel to a foreign land where Ox was being kept in a cell of some kind. Inside the cell are drawings aboard the skulls.

OK thats about enough of the plot, I don't want to give too much away.

Butt for those that don't like Shia you may like to learn that he is beaten up pretty good in the jungle chase sequence.

Some have commented on the CGI use and I didn't find it overused at all. It was used as needed to tell the story.

I found it better than the Temple of Doom. That one has always been the one Indy film I liked the least even before this one came out. The woman & kid was just so annoying I couldn't stand them at all.

I will say it does get some used to an older Indy. It does seem that either you can accept that time has moved on and so has the character, or you try and continue the character from the Last Crusade period which simply doesn't make much sense.

Harrison Ford is as good as usual as Indy.
Cate Blanchett is ok as the main villian.
Karen Allen slides right back into her character.
Shia LaBeouf is also good as Mutt Williams
Ray Winstone was ok as Mac, but I didn't really see a need for his character.
John Hurt was also very good as Ox.

Overall I think it's a good Indy film and is my #3 favorite. No it's not as good as Raiders or the Last Crusade, but it's far more better than Doom in my opinion.

When I have time I'll try and rewrite this review.

I'm likely to get the Target set with the book. While the Best Buy set is neat with the skull replica, it will likely just sit on the shelf collecting dust.

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced 1-disc ($29.99), 2-disc ($39.99) and Blu-ray ($39.99) releases of  Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull which stars Harrison Ford. Each will be available to own from the 14th October. We've attached the full disc specs for each of the releases below, along with the official package artwork. We're still awaiting artwork for the 2-disc DVD. Stay tuned for that.

Also available from the 14th October will be The Complete Adventure Collection, which will include the first three films plus the two-disc Special Edition DVD of the latest installment. This will retail at $89.99.

I'll probably buy the The Complete Adventure Collection since I never got around to buying the re-releases that came out right before the new film hit theaters.

I hope that the 2-disc editions artwork is similar to the Blu-ray editions.
