Uhm ... it's a bit complicated. I do like his work, yeah. A lot. And I do think he'll be great in Remember Me. But Remember Me is a movie I'd watch even if RPattz wasn't in it because it's the type of movie I love. I'd watch it with almost any actor, except maybe Sheephead LaPouf. Haha.
And I'd really like to see Chris in something like that. So sometimes I think it's unfair that RPattz gets all those great stuff to work on without really having to do anything about it (at least it sometimes appears like that) and Chris doesn't although Chris has a lot to offer, too. To me, he even has something special that RPattz will never have to me, because Chris played Miles in The Tic Code and you know what that movie means to me.
So yeah, I like Robert Pattinson. But there are so many actors I like and I still like Chris Marquette more and that's not going to change.
And hey, regarding the looks I'd choose Chris over Pattinson any day! LOL

A colleague of mine talked about it over lunch yesterday too. She said it was very strange, in a way that Terry Gilliam movies often are. It felt more like a theatre play than a movie sometimes. I guess you gotta be open for that kind of thing to end up liking the movie. I myself gave it a miss, even though I could have seen it in OV. Maybe on DVD some day.

-TeeJay

You have a bit of a misconception of the movie from the trailer. Remember, trailers often feature the most action-packed stuff. But still, it's probably not gonna be your cuppa.

I guess I just always imagined Holmes as a bit of an eccentric character but nevertheless more the calm and serene type. The guy who would solve a problem not by going in, guns blazing, punching people in the stomach, but by thinking about it and then acting accordingly. It's kinda hard to explain, especially since it's so long ago that I read the books. Suffice to say, the Holmes and Watson they showed in the trailer were nothing like the characters I had in mind from the Conan Doyle books. And even though I wouldn't consider myself a purist, it still bothers me enough not to want to see the movie.

-TeeJay

Never read the books. Not much of a fan of the character, specifically. The only other Sherlock I enjoyed was Murder By Decree which was a totally made-up, non-canonic story about Holmes becoming involved in the hunt for Jack The Ripper. It was my first exposure to the Royal theory. It's a great little film with wonderful performances by Christopher Plummer as Holmes and the late great James Mason as Watson. The plot of this new Holmes was vaguely reminiscent of that film. I'd say if you like Guy Ritchie's stuff, you might enjoy it. If not, and you're a purist, stay away. Personally, I hope they get to make a sequel, which they totally set up in this one. I've heard that they want to do a Moriarty-centered story next time, with Bad Pitt in the role...

I think the trailer ran before every showing of Avatar that I've seen, so that makes it four times. Twice in English and twice in German. And I can't say the trailer intrigued me in any way. I had a Sherlock Holmes phase when I was a teen, I think I read pretty much all of the novels. And this movie just somehow doesn't connect to the books. It seems like it's the Conan Doyle characters who time-traveled into the 21st century to kick ass with as many modern action effects as possible. From what I could gather, it has nothing to do with the novels I've read and the stories and characters envisioned there.

I'm sure it's a fun movie if you're willing to accept that it's nothing like the books, and I hope everyone who goes see it will have as much fun as Deb had.

-TeeJay
