Yeah, that's the set I mean. William Katt was at the FX Show in '07 (where I saw Chris) to promote it. His line was REALLY long, so I never got near him. LOL!

Oh you have just set me going...

The first time he was a security expert and he killed his girlfriend by accident, and he kept trying to bribe Columbo with a high paying job. Columbo catches him with a contact lens in Culp's trunk.

Second time he was the GM of a football team and he creates an alibi of being in the owners box during a football game when he is actually murdering Dean Stockwell in a swimming pool with a piece of ice.

The third time he is a maker of motivational films and uses subliminal cuts to get a client to go to the lobby at a specific time so he can shoot him.

The shoes being tied wrong was Robert Conrad. Yes, I have seen these episodes WAY too much.

I love those old Columbos. The ones from the 80s were good, but he just didn't look like he was having as much fun as he did the first time around. In fact I loved all the shows on the old "Sunday Mystery Movie" series. It's so much fun to catch an old Columbo, McMillan & Wife, or Hec Ramsey. But Columbo was the best!

I remember Robert Culp killing a guy at his gym and Columbo could tell that the victim hadn't tied his own shoes, so that's how he got him. I think the other time he killed either his wife or girlfriend. But I don't remember any details.

As to the Columbo record. On the original show the record is 3 with Robert Culp and Jack Cassidy bothe playing the killer 3 times. But if you add in all of the new episodes in the late 80s and the movies in the 90s, then the record was 4 with yes Patrick Macgoohan playing the killer 4 times (2 old series, one new series, one movie). And yes I HAVE spent way too much time watching Columbo.
