Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

I saw the book for 127 Hours at Bell's grocery store the other day. I really want to read the novel too.

Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

So, if Franco is going to host the Oscars, does that mean he can't be nominated or can he still win one of them?

No, it doesn't mean that at all.

Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

So he can still win? That's interesting. I thought if you're hosting an award show it's like an unwritten law that you can't win. But well, if he is nominated I guess he deserves it.

Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

Hosting really has nothing to do with it.  If he's nominated (and he will be), it'll just be an extra special night for him, that's all.

Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

It has happened a couple of times where a host was also a nominee.  and in the 50s, David Niven was a host the year he won.

Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

I knew it had, I just couldn't remember when. Seems like it has happened recently, but I can't for the life of me figure out when.  It happens on the Emmys occasionally too.  Jon Stewart has hosted and won in the same year.  Just for example.

He is just "so hot right now" hahaha. Everyone has seemed to have fallen for Franco and honestly, I can completely understand why. I am just curious as to why it took so long!!

Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

Me too!  Man, I mean he had me at Freaks & Geeks.  And my God, that movie where he played James Dean?  I saw it like 5 times.  He has always been great.  He's just on a long streak of getting excellent opportunities and making the right choices.  I'm thrilled for him.

I wish 127 Hours was playing near me. Deb, do you know if 127 Hours is playing anywhere in Georgia besides Atlanta close-ish to Athens?

127 nominated for two golden globes: best supporting actor (james franco) and danny boyle for best screenplay.
James Franco also nominated for best actor for Screen Actor Guild!

Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

I watched it last night. Whoa. Very intense. I'm not all that good with physical violence, so I had to close my eyes during that one brutal scene, but I agree with Rick. It had to be this brutal. And even though I only really heard that scene, my hands were still literally shaking when I was sitting in the car, I was so tense. A very very good movie, and James Franco was excellent. Of course I enjoyed Amber too, but even though she's credited second in the title credits, her role is quite small. (As is everyone's except for James.)

Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

Ok so sitting in Singapore airport waiting for the plane to refuel....watched this movie on the flight over. He really does carry the movie completely. I mean if Franco had done a bad job the movie would have been terrible, but he was fantastic and I did errr "enjoy" the movie. It was one of those that was done very well but I cant say I enjoyed watching it. I can still remember when the actual guy, Aron was found. Honestly the idea does make me feel kinda ill. I think for the story line of a guy stuck under a rock for so long though....they really managed to find something intriguing to watch. I dont think they could have done a better job of it, but the premise of the entire movie makes me feel abit queasy. I especially love that Franco comes across as normal. I was half expecting them to "pretty boy" him up from the trailer and it just wouldnt have felt right. But over all, this movie has my stamp of approval smile Well done!

Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

So I just saw Planet of the Apes and it was AWESOME.  Loooved it.  Best movie so far this summer.  Especially the first hour and a half in there is a beautiful story line being built.  THis is a serious minded movie but still balances the cheesy aspects of it well; and I can't wait to hear more about the making of the Apes and editing, etc.  That's all I'll say so it won't be too spoiled.  But highly recommend it.  Great story, fun movie.  Tom Felton from Harry Potter guest stars!

***** Maybe we could make this thread a more general James franco discussion thread?????;)

Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

I'm going to see it in a couple of hours.  As a lifelong Apeophile, I'm very excited to see how they'll handle my favorite story of the original series. Cannot wait!

Re: James Franco Appreciation Thread

Just got back from seeing Apes.  It's great!  So much fun.  I can't remember the last time I had so much fun watching a movie.  It had some great in-jokes for us hardcore Apes fans and it hit all the right notes.  In my opinion, it's dang-near perfect.  I loved it and wish I could afford to see it again!
