Re: Dear Roommate

Gotta say it....absolutely love this little movie....cute as can be.  Why can't he get cast in a big version of something like this?  Any movie that ends with two adults jumping on a bed while having a pillow fight in front of a big yellow smiley face on a bright red wall has got to be fantastic.   Love both the actors...love the background music....love the whole package.

Re: Dear Roommate

Me too.  Hands-down one of my favorite things he's done.  I would give anything to see him in the lead in a full length rom-com that's half as clever, sweet and funny as DR.

Re: Dear Roommate

Maybe one day....still don't really get Hollywood though.   Kills me how many actors are out there that I think kind of stink at acting but they get a lot of attention.  I can think of one in particular though I don't want to mention any names cuz I don't want to be mean, but I'm never impressed with him at all.  He is one who has worked with Chris before and he had the main charactor but as far as I was concerned, Chris's character was far more interesting and far better acted.   Can't figure why Chris doesn't get a lot of attention, but this guy has been cast a lot in a lot of main roles.  Don't get it really.

Re: Dear Roommate

Chris is still suffering from having multiple projects collapse due to the labor strife in 2008 & 2009.  If Oliver Stone's Pinkville and John Stockwell''s Kid Cannabis had gotten made, for instance, his profile would be a lot higher right now.

In Hollywood, it's not about talent, it's about what they can sell.  It has always been that way to a degree, but the explosion of so-called "reality TV" --- with people becoming celebrities overnight just for being outrageous, without ever having to accomplish a damn thing (that requires any kind of talent or craft) --- has made it far, far, far worse.  And I honestly wonder if we'll ever recover.

Re: Dear Roommate

And, you know, sadly it's not always about quality or fairness. I've been looking into Peter Outerbridge a little lately (okay, a lot -- don't ask), and he's been in a ton of stuff. He got a number of award nominations for stuff I thought was more or less mediocre. And then he did a guest spot in an episode of Sanctuary, which was fantastic. Possibly his best work after ReGenesis. Still, that one totally flew under the radar. One can only wonder why.

Re: Dear Roommate

Sounds like Chris is suffering from Billy Crudup syndrome.   Another of my favorite actors who specializes in emotional drama but can really do anything.  Mostly does independent movies and broadway or off-broadway shows...but he is always a pleasure to watch even if the movie is horrible.  If you've never seen Jesus' Son or Stage Beauty, you should just for the joy of his performance.  Jesus' Son  in particular is dark and kind of hard to watch; I call it a drug movie with a heart.  He is fantastic in it though.  Stage Beauty was just a joy to watch the development of his character from the beginning of the movie to the end.  He has just never really found his way into the mainstream because he chooses mostly low-budget independent films because that's where the most challenging and interesting parts are.  Chris is a like a younger version of him in attitude, I think.  Loves acting for the pure joy of acting and not for the fame.  Does emotional drama better than most men would even hope to be able to do and would rather be challenged by a unique and challenging character than get famous off of a bad big budget movie where the characters rarely get developed in any real fashion.  Just the way I see them both....these two guys top my favorite actor list for pretty much the same reasons.

Re: Dear Roommate

I like Billy a lot too.  I've seen Jesus' Son.  He was great in it, but it's not a movie that I'd wanna repeat view.  I really thought he was going to take off with Almost Famous.  He was just so perfectly beautiful and appealing in that movie.  Still can't figure out why that didn't happen.  I think Without Limits is still my favorite of his films.

Every so often I just go watch it and I'm immediately all cheered up and smiling. So good.

I love the comparisons to Billy Crudup.  BC is a great actor also and I admire him for not just doing ANY role in ANY movie.  I can see where CM is like this as well.  He is a fine actor and is SO much better than many of the young, pretty-faced guys who get starring roles these days.  I credit both BC and Chris with being extremely talented, hard-working, good looking actors with great depth.  It seems that the ones who are cast in so many movies are traditionally handsome guys who play the same character over and over again. I'll take an actor who can make me fall for his character through his acting skills any day.  tongue

Re: Dear Roommate

Totally agree too.  I've lost count how many times I've watched through this fantastic little short movie.  Wish there was a way to see some of the other short films he's done, in particular Thule.  Really want to see that one but fear it's not going to happen.

Back to Billy, loved Almost Famous and Without Limits...I think I've seen most of his movies actually.   Big Fish was another one of his that I loved.   And Waking the Dead, though it's a bit steamy for me, the emotion he gets with that character brought chills and a few tears of my own.  Talk about someone who can get to the pain of a characters soul...Billy does that amazingly well himself.  Agree that Jesus' Son would be hard to watch more than once.    I think the thing I love about Billy is that you never see him play the same kind of character more than once.  He doesn't allow himself to get typecast into the same kinds of roles.  Then again, he also hasn't been in a lot of movies lately so....

I think Chris has the potential to be that kind of actor...I think thats what I really like about him.  You can tell by the wide mix of characters that he's already taken on.  Actors get boring if they do the same thing over and over again.  Just really looking forward to seeing him finally get a break....hope it happens soon and with something amazing.  He deserves a lot more recognition than he gets, in my opinion.
