Re: Star Wars Thread

Just wanted to show some pictures from yesterday's event. We did a blood drive for the United Blood Service and it was quite a success. They actually had to turn away people because they were so booked up so that was cool.
Jacen also unveiled his Jango Fett costume and he had a blast 'Trooping' with us.

Re: Star Wars Thread

I remember waiting at least 3 years before the Star Wars films came out on VHS. I remember the ad in Video Review magazine. I think I paid $80 for the VHS of Return of the Jedi. Back then it was only Pan & Scan, but I was happy to own the film on video.

Later I got into LaserDisc. I bought the Japanese CAV Widescreen LD Imports. My dad bought them for me and it cost $141 each. Then years later I go the US release of the Trilogy on LD called the Definitive Edition. That one came with a book as well. I think that one cost $200. I still own the Definitive Edition, it has a nice tour of the Lucasfilm archives where you can see all the masks, models and props from all the films. Then of course I bought the Special Edition LaserDisc set.

The DVD came around and I got the 4 disc set of the Trilogy, then I bought the Limited Editions just so I can own the original versions on DVD.

Years ago I bought the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. I recently dubbed it over to DVD. Gee, that was a bad film.

I threw away all my VHS copies years ago. Just couldn't stand the Pan & Scan version anymore.

I don't collect action figures or toys, but I do own a few collectibles.

the 1978 board game
1978 Timex watch with original case
The soundtrack on 33 1/3 records
2 Star Wars mechanical banks. One is Darth Vader and the other is C-3PO and R2-D2
The paperback novels
The Star Wars Monopoly Game

These are the 2 that I own.

<raises hand> Uh..... me?

I have an Episode I mug, though. But only by accident because one of my (sci-fi unsavvy) friends gave it to me. She only remembered I was a sci-fi fan of some "Star" related thing. How was she supposed to know it was Star Trek and not Star Wars? wink

That's awesome that you have those on LD, Illinois. I came across a Music store that was selling the Laserdisc set for $75 about 4 years ago. It was right when Jacen was born and I couldn't justify spending that much smile
(On a side note, Last week I found 'Speed' on LD at Goodwill for $.99, LOL)
I have that tour of the archives on a bootleg video of the Holiday Special. It's sweet! It also came with the music video for 'Lapti Nek' from Return of the Jedi. Cool stuff. wink I remember actually watching the Holiday Special when it aired, at my grandpa's house. I was only 5 at the time, but I remembered specific bits and pieces of it. I tried watching it again a few years back and could only handle it in 10 minute increments. It's that bad.

Re: Star Wars Thread

This gave me some very disturbed thoughts, Harvey Korman in drag as a cooking show host.

And here's Luke with just a tad too much makeup on.

The best thing about it was the cartoon segment.

Then we get the exciting ending.

Re: Star Wars Thread

Carrie Fisher singing the "Life Day" song was as magical as that woman who was playing the Star Wars theme on a trumpet.
It's great how the 1st 30 minutes of the show is nothing but Chewie and his family grunting and growling in his house. I'm surprised why this never became a holiday tradition like Charlie Brown's Christmas and the Wizard of Oz. tongue

Re: Star Wars Thread

Okay picture time!!
We do a charity event at the Zoo each year where we raise $ for the elephant exhibit. Here's a few pics from that day:
z17.jpg
z15.jpg
z8.jpg
z3.jpg

I wish I would've caught it on video, but when I walked by the Chimpanzee exhibit. 10 of them all crowded around the window and were looking at me very cautiously. (Yes I was in my costume! tongue)
2 of them started to spin in circles and bang up against the glass. I decided to move away and they all followed me as one big group until I was out of view. It was crazy! smile

Re: Star Wars Thread

Look who got himself into a little trouble:

http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/apps … 08042/1009

A City of Poughkeepsie man was arrested Thursday after leading police on a high-speed chase through the city, which came to an end on the lawns of two Washington Street homes.

Officer Garth Mason was on Market Street at 6:37 p.m. when he saw a car, operated by Landocalrissan Butler, 27, of Winnikee Avenue, speeding and moving into the officer's lane, almost striking his car, said Deputy Chief Tom Ghee.

Mason attempted to pull Butler's vehicle over, Ghee said, but Butler allegedly did not comply and would not stop his vehicle.
