Re: Misc. Stuff

Wow. My mom and me scanned some old photos yesterday to make a photo book for my grandma. And mom had these amazing old pictures of my grandma's family on my mother's side. Take a look.

My great-great-grandmother (the grandma of my mother's mother):

My great-grandmother (my grandma's mom):

My great-grandfather (this photo was probably taken during the first World War):

My grandma when she was young:

Grandma's parents:

Two of my grandma's brothers are in this. They both died during the second World War:

Again, this time a little older:

My mom, her sister and a friend (my mom's sister is the youngest):

Re: Misc. Stuff

Amazing pics. I have some old pics from my grandma too. One shows her and my granddad kissing! I'd love to scan those, but as you may know, our scanner is broken somehow and since my dad doesn't want to buy a new one (he's still convinced that the thing is still working ...) I have to wait until I can afford one myself.

Re: Misc. Stuff

Those are wonderful!  I love old pictures.  I have one of my grandmother that was taken in 1910!  (Who knew they even had cameras wink)  She looks a WHOLE lot like me in the face, but she had black hair and I'm a dirty blonde.

Do you know what those cone things are the kids are carrying in the second to last picture, TeeJay?

Yeah, sure I do. We call them "Schultüte" (= school cone). In Germany on the very first day of school (elementary school, that is) you are given a Schultüte that usually contains sweets and candy and maybe also some school utensils like pencil and pencil eraser (notice me not saying "rubber"!) and such. It's usually made of cardboard. It's a tradition over here, but I can't explain where it comes from. Of course I got one too when I was that age. I think mine was a silvery red.

LOL Do you know what? That was the very first English word I ever learned. Well, along with "ruler", I guess. And pencil and stuff like that. It was in fifth grade and we were talking about things you need at school. Boy, this is long ago! yikes

Here's a perfect example of what happens when a phone conference is totally boring. I blurred the actual text since that's confidential, but you should get the picture (artwork by TeeJay). smile

Hey guys, I heard from Carol today. She's still having problems with her phone line and she said she'll be back on the board when she can. And she misses all of us. Awww. smile

Is it a hint that there's too many people in your house when the screaming in the basement drowns out Times Square?

Re: Misc. Stuff

Happy belated New Year from another part of Germany. I tried desperately to come online during midnight, but we had once again problems with our internet connection. roll In fact, the W-LAN is still not working but I am currently sitting at my parents' computer (and fighting with my mom who is allowed to use it. LOL) I hope we'll solve the problem soon.

EDIT: The problem is gone! I'm happy now! LOL

Re: Misc. Stuff

Can I ask a favor? I redesigned a website for a friend of mine and for me it's working both in Firefox and IE 7. Can you guys see if it's working for you and report any anomalies? The URL is http://www.clocks.de.ms

I think the images thing doesn't work in Safari, but, sorry, Mac users, that's just tough luck. I might consider changing that to something else eventually, though.
