Eh, those stories are not that great, really.  Or I would've already shared them.

I was gonna ask him if we could pick a date and make it "the day" but he beat me to it. smile So August 2010, on the ten year anniversary of our first meeting (or first kiss, depends how we'll get the reservations) we're getting hitched. In city hall. We don't want a church wedding. We want it small and intimate. We both hate to be in the center of attention. Then maybe a small party for the closest family and friends the next day. Or we'll just have a few dinner parties with even smaller growds. smile
ps. i don't want my family to know about the wedding plans so please don't congratulate me on FB. By my family I mean my sisters. They'll tell mom and I really don't want her on my wedding ruining it all.

I totally missed this post. How could I? yikes

Be careful using your credit card folks.  Something very strange is afoot...

One guy's CC was charged $23 quadrillion dollars for cigarettes...

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/1 … 33286.html

And another guy's card was charged the exact same amount at a Wolfgang Puck restaurant...

And it was two different banks in two different cities.  Make me wonder if those scary North Koreans have hacked into the banking system somehow.  This is nutz!

Whoa that bouquet crash was... whoa. Things people come up with... I probably won't even have a bouquet. Would I really need one in city hall...? I dunno. Need to think about the specifics...

Re: Randomness

Random question for pet parents...

Did you give your dog (or cat) a name only to more or less never call them by it again?  Except maybe when you're correcting them?  I heard a comedian talk about it once, but I can't remember who.  I'm totally guilty.  I'm worse than Rob Schneider as the copy guy on SNL.  Except none of my dogs or surrogate dogs are the anything-inator.  LOL!  But Dixie is Dissy or Deuce most of the time.  And Bodhi was Bo, Bode, or Bodoggy.  Also Bodhiliciousness, Bodhaciousness and Bode Star, or even Bodester at times.  My dear departed Lacey was Boo, Booboo, Booda, Boogie, MissRacyLacey, Race, Lace, Aiche, Snarfus (don't ask) and on and on.  Hey, she was 17, I had a million of 'em.  tongue

Who else does this?

Re: Randomness

When I was little I called my dog, Midnight, Nighttime a lot.  But that was a stupid kid thing.  Then as we got older, Midnight started getting deaf (and blind), so we didn't call him much of anything at that point.  We just waited for him to come to us.

Re: Randomness

Hahaha sort of, but mostly the right name. Currently have Jake, Gizmo and Muffin. And yeah its either proper names or Jakey, Geemo, Muffy, Muffster, and Muffoon. But more often than not its the names they were given. But i have heard of that before. For ages i thought my friends cat was named Man, cos thats what they called it but it was sposed to be something predictable like Fluffy or whatever. But got the nicname Man cos it acted like it thought it was human. That was kinda random.

Which leads me to my next random thought. My nephew refers to people as "humans". Saying it like that doesnt make it sound random at all, but it is when he will say human instead of him or her, or them. Like he will say "See that human over there, she has pretty hair" "This human in my class today said ...." Anyway i find it funny......*dont mind me*

Wal-Mart does stuff like that sometimes with their food items. My mom bought a loaf of bread that was supposed to be $2 and they ended up charging $80. Thankfully she caught them on it as soon as she got the receipt. It happened to her a few other times too with different items. That's nothing though compared to those cigarette and restaurant charges.

They renamed the Sears Tower. It's now the Willis Tower.

It's always going to be known as the Sears Tower.

Re: Randomness

I received this in an email today, and it is so true:

One of the "Band of Brothers" soldiers died on June 17, 2009.

We're hearing a lot today about big splashy memorial services.

I want a nationwide memorial service for Darrell "Shifty" Powers.

Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy Company of
the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Infantry.
If you've seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the History Channel, you know
Shifty. His character appears in all 10 episodes, and Shifty himself is
interviewed in several of them.

I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago.
I didn't know who he was at the time. I just saw an elderly gentleman
having trouble reading his ticket. I offered to help, assured him that he
was at the right gate, and noticed the "Screaming Eagle", the
symbol of the 101st Airborne, on his hat.

Making conversation, I asked him if he'd been in the 101st Airborne or if
his son was serving. He said quietly that he had been in the 101st. I
thanked him for his service, then asked him when he served, and how many
jumps he made.

Quietly and humbly, he said "Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so, and
was in until sometime in 1945" at which point my heart skipped.

At that point, again, very humbly, he said "I made the 5 training jumps at
Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy . do you know where Normandy
is?" At this point my heart stopped.

I told him yes, I know exactly where Normandy was, and I know
what D-Day was. At that point he said "I also made a second jump
into Holland, into Arnhem." I was standing with a genuine war hero . . .
and then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of D-Day.

I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France, and he said "Yes.
And it's real sad because these days so few of the guys are left, and those
that are, lots of them can't make the trip." My heart was in my throat and
I didn't know what to say.

I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in Coach,
while I was in First Class. I sent the flight attendant back to get him and
said that I wanted to switch seats. When Shifty came forward, I got up out
of the seat and told him I wanted him to have it, that I'd take his in coach.

He said "No, son, you enjoy that seat. Just knowing that there are still
some who remember what we did and still care enough to make an old man
very happy." His eyes were filling up as he said it. And mine are brimming
up now as I write this.

Shifty died on June 17 after fighting cancer.

There was no parade.

No big event in Staples Center.

No wall to wall back to back 24x7 news coverage.

No weeping fans on television.

And that's not right.

Let's give Shifty his own Memorial Service, online, in our own
quiet way.
Please forward this email to everyone you know. Especially to the
veterans.

Rest in peace, Shifty.

"A nation without heroes is nothing."

Re: Randomness

Great show, great bunch of men.  My stepfather was in Germany in WWII, until he was injured.  He would never talk about it though.  We knew he had a Purple Heart, but we didn't know he had a Silver Star until after he passed and we sorted his things.

I'm completely drenched. I had a 10 minute walk home in non-stop heaving rain with no hood, and then a bus went past through a puddle which soaked me from head to toe. I was that soaked, i literally has to get out the clothes the moment i walked through the door.
