Re: Randomness

Yeah, I really need a break. Everything's just so tense at work lately.  We lost another employee today.  It never stops.  I hate it. I can't wait for a few days away to decompress.

Re: Randomness

No big plans.  Labor Day is never a big deal for us, which is just the way I like it.  Like Deb, I'll be decompressing and kicking back as much as possible.   You know, we all better be resting up for the release of "The Double!"

Sounds like a good plan to both of you!  A busy weekend for me, but definitely a planned pajama day Monday!

Re: Randomness

I plan a lot of slouching and wearing as few clothes as possible actually.  It's still really hot here and I'm still flashing like crazy.  I am going for my favorite burger on Saturday though.  smile

Re: Randomness

Crazy weekend ahead,  LA county fair opens, where my daughter has a lot of stuff entered (arts and crafts stuff mainly) although she did enter jam and salsa this year too.  Also, the first of her cooking competitions is Sunday, (she is down stairs right now trying some variations on the recipe).  The Fairgrounds are just barely in the county in Pomona, which is about 50 miles from my house, lots of traveling back and forth over the next month.
I actually love going to the fair, and it is cool that my 15 year old "valley girl" daughter is so into it.  I just wish there wasn't so much going on all the time, would love to relax.

Re: Randomness

I'm having a very sick weekend, literally. yet I must find the energy to go out and rumage with the kids and do a big weekend clean up as usual. So combine that and little if any appetite... so I had some candy and cheese snacks for breakfast. tongue Super healthy! It's saturday aka candy day. When I've got the flu I have zero appetite and have to try to get down something so why not try something really tempting? big_smile I got me some soups and my favorite half-healthy chocolatechip cookies for later. I can only have so much sugar without getting gerdy-sick..

I hope everyone else has a fun and lazy weekend! And healthy! big_smile

Re: Randomness

Sounds rough!  I hate not being able to eat.  I have a couple of errands today and then I'm going to (finally) see Super 8 at the el cheapo theater.  It's so hot though, I really don't even want to leave the house.

Did you see Super 8, Deb?  It isn't playing around here anymore.  I actually arranged to meet a friend to see it back in July but when we got to the theater it turned out I'd looked at an old listing and it was already gone.  Sob. Both my friend and I adore Kyle Chandler and are in mourning over Friday Night Lights ending.

Our weather here was oppressively hot for two days. Now,today it has been stormy and may be down to 40 by Monday night!!!  So many kids at school have been sick already.  Can't wait to see what next week brings after the big temp. drop.:|

Re: Randomness

we have a nice cold front of about 95 degrees! ha ha.  newscasters are indeed calling it a cold front.
I took my car to the shop friday to get the lower lights fixed and Saturday my car wouldn't start.  I spent an hour and a half in 110 degree heat waiting for a tow truck.  It was not a fun day.  Nice way to start the weekend  I wasn't so much upset about the car as I was wasting two hours of my weekend waiting that could have been spent relaxing.

Re: Randomness

Marv, yeah, I did get to see the movie.  It's terrific.  Except I gotta say that people who complained about the constant stupid blue lense flares detracting from the story are absolutely right! They're so distracting.  JJ Abrams has GOT to get over that crap and stop doing it.  It's beginning to feel juvenile.

OMG!  You were an FNL fan?  That show was like an obsession for me. I got so sucked into it.  It's the only show since JoA that I've felt so strongly about.  I've seen the entire series 3 times now.  Just so wonderful.  And that ending?  It could not have been better.

Oh gosh, Lindsey, that sounds miserable!  At least I haven't had to be outside much.  We're finally getting a break today. It's cloudy and only 80 degrees.  We might get thunderstorms later.  I have to go get groceries, but after that can stay in for the rest of the day.

Re: Randomness

You might have noticed by now, but if not, I was gone for a few days this past week because we had a rather "huge" family event last weekend: The church wedding of my brother and his wife. It was exciting and exhausting, but a lot of fun and I was happy because my "Irish parents" came for the wedding and I could talk to them a lot. I will share some pictures when I get home later, but for now I am still trapped at my parents's place, so I just wanted to announce that I am back.

Re: Randomness

Glad the wedding went well!!! After experiencing both siblings getting married in one month this past summer I know how dramatized weddings can be!

why is there so much stuff going on all the time.  Feel like there is never any down time.  one extreme to the other.  Either too busy, or nothing to do.

Re: Randomness

I had a Labor Day party with my parents and family friends on Sunday. It was really great except today there was a tornado warning here and really bad weather. So I ended up staying home doing nothing.

Me too, Mel.  But I didn't really mind it too much.  It was nice being a slouch.

glad you two got to veg.  I wish I could have done more of that.  My car issues continue to exist.  It is not fun.  The dealership and AT&T customer service have to be the worst people to deal with! smile

Re: Randomness

So, to provide a followup on my daughter at the county fair.  She won a couple of second place ribbons in photography.  She won a grand prize for designing a lab coat (it was a contest based on this years theme of science).  She also won a grand prize for knitting.  And a grand prize for jewelry design.  Then she also won a grand prize for the first of her baking contests, chocolate chip cookies.  So, she has had a great year, with hopefully more to come (2 baking contests this weekend), very proud.

Re: Randomness

Thanks, she is kind of gung ho, she had 5 other entries which didn't do nearly as well, it was kind of an all or nothing year on her results.

for example, at the last minute she decided to try the preserving catagories.  She made a very good grren salsa, and a very good strawberry/gooseberry jam.  But none of us had ever done canning before, and literally the day the entries were do, we were all trying to figure out how to do it, and apparently we didn't do it right, (they told us at the fair it hadn't worked), so she has something to learn this year, for next year's fair.

Friday is favorite cookie baking, and Sunday is favorite memory baking, fingers crossed.

Re: Randomness

I like that LA county has a big county fair!  I guess I think of them as rural, and southern since I went to ours every year when I was a kid.  You've got a very talented 15-year-old daughter there, Rick.  Congratulations to her, and good luck on the upcoming baking contests!
