Re: Randomness

I'm the same way.  The few times I bought anything on Ebay, I used money orders, because I was too chicken to let the vendors have the information on a check.  Amazon's marketplace is a lot like Ebay, but I have more confidence in it.

Re: Randomness

When I buy on eBay, I usually pay by bank transfer. The seller sends you his bank account details and you wire him the money. I have paid with PayPal on eBay once or twice, but I only do it if I can't pay via bank transfer. I do have a credit card, but more out of necessity than anything. As a fan of American actors and TV shows/movies, it's almost impossible to order US DVDs in Germany without a credit card. But I'm still leery of using it online, and I only tend to avoid small online stores that I know nothing about and that no one has heard of before.

A few years back I bought an MP3 player online with a small no-name store and they went bankrupt before they sent me the product (and after they received the money). I never got my merchandise or the 70 EUR back.

Re: Randomness

Yeah, I wish I had a credit card because I want to buy from the US too, but I rather don't apply for one, I don't trust myself so far. big_smile
I once wanted to use paypal, but I never got an account. Maybe I will, someday. I have to see.

Re: Randomness

What a story!

Abandoned baby found safe with dog

Fri Aug 22, 10:07 AM ET

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - A newborn baby abandoned outdoors in winter by her 14-year-old mother was found safe in a dog pen with a mother dog and her brood of puppies near the city of La Plata, Argentine media reported on Friday.

Farmer Fabio Anze found the naked baby girl on Thursday, being kept warm among his dog China's puppies, La Nacion newspaper said. Anze called the police and the baby was taken to a hospital.

Egidio Melia, director of the Melchor Romero hospital, told television and newspaper reporters that the baby was just a few hours old when she was found, and was in good health although she had some bruises.

Nighttime temperatures are chilly but not freezing in the Southern Hemisphere winter in the rural area around La Plata, 40 miles (60 km) south of Buenos Aires.

Police said they had located the 14-year-old girl who gave birth to the baby outdoors during the night.

It was not clear whether the mother left her baby in the dog's pen or whether the dog found the baby outdoors and carried it in to join her puppies.

Re: Randomness

I'll have to have a look.

Edit: Yeah, there seems to be some debates going over there too, but they don't seem as comman. There are some really screwed up people on the net.

Re: Randomness

There's always soo many rude and creepy people on IMDB so I'm not surprised. The worst people on it though are Chris haters.

Re: Randomness

The worst vermin on the site are mindless trolls who live to antagonize people, especially the ones who follow you into your private email to viciously harass you for no reason other than the fact that they get off on it.

Re: Randomness

I had an interview today at a Subway near my house... I went in, sat down and literally five minutes later I had a job.  Or at least a training day thing.   It's really kinda shocking because that's the first time I've ever been in there yikes

Re: Randomness

Yeah, tomorrow I'll probably just be making sandwiches and stuff.  I don't have the job for certain yet, I'm just gonna be working over the lunch shift and see how it goes.  If it works out, I'll find out what I'm actually gonna do.

Cool.  I love Subway.  Lately, I've been eating there a few times a week because the daily special is so cheap.  Hey, at least at Subway, you won't go home smelling like fry grease everyday.  wink

Re: Randomness

This sucks. Our company is cutting back on 2,000 jobs worldwide in the near future. They're letting 1/3 of all people at our location go. Apparently our department is luckier than others because there will only be few cutbacks, but please cross your fingers for me that I won't be one of the few. neutral

Re: Randomness

Looks like I'm one of the lucky ones, if I can trust my line manager and bosses (which I dare say I can), I'm gonna be one of those who will keep their job. But I know a lot of the people who won't. And that's really sad. There's also gonna be major changes ahead, so I don't now what all the restructuring will mean in the end. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I've been on both sides of those "restructuring" things.  It's very sad.  I'm glad you're one of the lucky ones.  I hope your department wasn't hit too hard.
