Re: Misc Stuff

This is cool...

Scorsese to direct Harrison film
Docu to cover artist's music, movie careers
By MICHAEL FLEMING

Martin Scorsese has committed to direct an untitled documentary about the life of George Harrison.
Scorsese will produce with Harrison's widow Olivia and Nigel Sinclair in a co-production between Scorsese's Sikelia Prods., Harrison's Grove Street Prods., and Sinclair's Spitfire Pictures.

The docu is being constructed as a theatrical release, and the Harrison family will supply materials from its extensive archive. Interviews and early production will begin later this year, and the film will take several years to complete.

Pic will cover Harrison's Beatles career and later years that included a successful solo music career as well as a foray as a movie mogul when he backed Handmade Films and made pics such as "Monty Python's Life of Brian" and "Time Bandits." Scorsese, who explored themes of faith in "Kundun" and "The Last Temptation of Christ," will also focus closely on the Eastern spiritual pursuits that were central to Harrison's life.

The docu will be edited by David Tedeschi, who served the same role on the Scorsese-directed Rolling Stones film "Shine A Light." Tedeschi was also editor on the Scorsese-directed "No Direction Home: Bob Dylan."

Spitfire's Sinclair was a producer on the Dylan film with Scorsese, and he just teamed with Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend as a producer on "Amazing Journey: The Story of the Who," which will be released on DVD by Universal on Nov. 5.

Sikelia's Margaret Bodde will be exec producer of the Harrison film.

"George Harrison's music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today and I'm looking forward to delving deeper," Scorsese said.

It is expected that Harrison's surviving Beatles bandmates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will participate, as well as the Beatles' Apple Records, which counts Olivia Harrison as a partner.

Harrison met her husband in 1974 and they were together until he died of lung cancer at age 58 in 2001. The two of them famously fought off and subdued an attacker who broke into the Harrison home and stabbed the guitarist several times in 1999. She was also the catalyst for the tribute show "The Concert for George," and organized a reissue of "The Concert for Bangladesh," which Harrison put together in 1971.

"It would have given George great joy to know that Martin Scorsese has agreed to tell his story," she said.

Re: Misc Stuff

Cool! Can we make suggestions for the cast list? LOL

Hey, I just noticed Scorsese directed that Bob Dylan documentary. My mom has the DVD! (I am currently trying to talk her into watching I'm Not There with me, but I might rather go with Rike. I hope she answers soon.)

It's a documentary.  There won't be a cast.

Re: Misc Stuff

Good news for great actors in need of a job...

Movie Production Suddenly Soars in L.A.

During the first three weeks following the writers strike, the number of permits for location shooting in Los Angeles for theatrical movies rose 61.9 percent from the same period a year ago, according to FilmL.A., the semi-official agency that co-ordinates the issuance of permits by government agencies to producers. The boost in production was attributed not only to the writers' return to work but also the prospect that the Screen Actors Guild might call a strike at the end of June when its contract with producers ends. However, FilmLA expressed concern that television production remained below last year's levels, particularly production of TV pilots.

...unless they want to do TV.

Re: Misc Stuff

Oh no, say it ain't so...

Rich kids are back: CW plots '90210' spinoff
By Nellie Andreeva

March 13, 2008

"Beverly Hills, 90210"
The most popular ZIP code on television is coming back.

The CW is developing a contemporary spinoff of Aaron Spelling's seminal 1990s teen soap "Beverly Hills, 90210."

"Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas is in talks to pen the project, which has been put on the fast track by the network.

Details about the spinoff -- including which if any of the characters on the original series will make the transition to the new show -- remain sketchy. CW is expected to make a decision whether to order a pilot by the end of the month.

The spinoff is being produced by CBS Paramount Network TV, which absorbed original series producer Spelling TV two years ago.

Sources said "90210" creator Darren Star is not involved.

CAA, which packaged the original "90210," is said to have been the mastermind behind the idea of spinning off the hit series. The spinoff would bring Thomas back to CW, where his acclaimed series "Veronica Mars" ended its three-year run last spring.

A year ago, Endeavor-repped Thomas developed a spinoff of sorts from "Veronica" -- an alternative fourth season that would have found the title character studying at the FBI Academy. Despite a warm reception for his trailer at CW, the network ultimately canceled "Veronica," but CW chief Dawn Ostroff said at the time that she was looking to do another project with Thomas.

This would be the second spinoff from "90210," which aired on Fox from 1990-2000. The Star-created "Melrose Place" had a successful seven-year run on Fox. It didn't feature any major characters from "90210."

A teen soap about privileged youths living in Beverly Hills would be a perfect companion to CW's buzzworthy freshman drama "Gossip Girl," which revolves around rich teens living in Manhattan.

Spinoffs are hot this development season. Fox is developing two: "Cleveland," centered on the Cleveland Brown character from the hit animated comedy "Family Guy," and a "Prison Break" offshoot set at a female prison.

Last year, ABC spun off its medical juggernaut "Grey's Anatomy" into "Private Practice."

The CW also has a spinoff on its schedule, the "Girlfriends" offshoot "The Game."

Wonder if Chris will get a call for this one...  roll

Re: Misc Stuff

He's got plenty of time.  He hasn't shot anything new since this time last year when he was in Bulgaria shooting Infestation.  You do realize that all the projects listed on IMDb have been completed for ages, right?  We're just waiting for them to come out.

His mom said he'd gotten lots offers to do crap shows on The CW.  He turned them all down.  But now, he's decided that he's open to TV again.  Unfortunately, pilot season was more or less canceled this year because of the strike.

Apparently some shows are gonna be back in April. I saw that CSI and CSI: NY have new episodes scheduled, as well as ER, if I remember correctly. I really wish Private Practice would come back this season, but it probably won't. sad

Re: Misc Stuff

They're not shooting any new PP eps.  It won't be back till the fall.  I think I posted that in the PP thread.  They're not shooting anymore ERs either.  Whether they have more eps that haven't aired yet or not, I don't know.  Dave said they did announce that it will be back in the fall and that Goren's gone, but for a few guest appearances (ala Noah Wylie).

I don't want to see him in just any crap tv show. It has to be good. I imagine he's getting pretty bored, but hopefully he will keep being selective about what he does next. Imagine having all that time off, must be a nice break, wonder how he (and all the other actors out there) kept busy. You should ask Tisha. But funs over...back to work

I don't want him to do just any old crap show either.  And he wouldn't.  But damnit, we haven't seen anything new in almost a year now.  This is ridiculous.  It shouldn't be this hard.  What the hell is wrong with casting directors these days?  Our guy deserves so much better.  And I wanna use stronger language than that, but this isn't the Adult thread.  Sigh.  roll

Re: Misc Stuff

And in more depressing news from the TV front...

ABC Won't Debut Any New Shows In Fall

For the first time in memory, a television network will launch a new season in the fall without a single new series, a consequence of the writers' strike, published reports indicated Wednesday. The Hollywood Reporter said that ABC is planning to order as many as seven hourlong pilots but has no plans to rush any of them onto the air, primarily because only a handful of episodes for the new series that began airing this season made it onto the air. Some reports indicated that rival networks are also unlikely to be rolling out as many new shows in the fall as they did previously.

Well, maybe there'll at least be a few mid-season new shows around January 2009? But this all still seems like incredibly bad timing.

Re: Misc Stuff

Yeah, a bunch of cheap to produce "reality" garbage.  How many more dancing/singing/modeling/surviving/home-makeover/nanny rescue shows do we need?

The only good thing about it is that if they have nothing new to replace Private Practice & Eli Stone with, at least they'll stay on the air.

A new list of what? There's only been Lost and Medium since January. It would probably be three episodes of each that I can send you. But I can do so if you like.

Re: Misc Stuff

God, this guy's arrogance truly knows no bounds, does it?  I hope some rich kid smacks him down for presuming to know anything about young people.  And if the boomers are still where the money is, why did he so loathe that median 53 JoA audience.  Frankly, I think he's just nuts.

Moonves: Young Viewers Aren't "Upscale"

Advertisers are making an incorrect assumption when they say that their principal targets are 18- to 34-year-old upscale viewers, CBS chief Les Moonves observed Thursday. "There are no upscale 18- to 34-year olds -- except my children. And they have to ask me for money. It's a bullis**t demographic category," Moonves told the McGraw-Hill Media Summit in New York in response to a question from BusinessWeek editor Stephen Adler. Despite ranking generally as the No. 1-rated TV network, CBS has traditionally appealed to an older audience. "The [baby]boomer is still where the money is," Moonves said. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that Fox's American Idol "continues to be a monster. ... It's a phenomenon. If somebody would kill that show, I'd really appreciate it. ... It's tough to compete with it." Despite finishing as the top-rated TV network for the past six years, CBS is likely to give way to Fox this year, most analysts have predicted. "Yeah, we'll finish No 2," Moonves conceded.

Yeah, poor baby.  I weep for your lame-ass network.  Not.
