Re: Misc Stuff

Anyone around here watch CSI: (Las Vegas)? If so, please cover your eyes if you don't wanna be spoiled, but...

... Grissom asking Sara to marry him????? Hello??? That's just too bizarre. And I'm sorry, but totally doesn't work for me. I was never a fan of this pairing in the first place. And I sure as hell hope that Sara doesn't keep working with them because Sara and Grissom as a married couple is just ew. Then again, they already brought in Sara's replacement, the over-eager pretty chick. Not sure what to think of her...

Re: Misc Stuff

I started watching Prison Break today, someone gave me the first two seasons. Wow. I was already hooked after the first episode. I've been watching six or seven episodes today. Square eyes indeed. I'll watch one more before going to bed, I think. Or two? wink

They did a wonderful job picking their cast. Everyone is amazing and I just love Wentworth, as much as I hated him as Ryan Hunter. That guy has charisma and range!

Re: Misc Stuff

I tried watching this in German, but it didn't work for me. Well, that could be the synchro. LOL It was weird to Ryan talking German.;)

Re: Misc Stuff

It wouldn't be easy to understand it in English, I guess. There's some politics involved that I didn't figure out until later in the show. And I guess it's not something for everyone. It's kinda dark and dirty. The two-parter with the riot was really gory. But also very thrilling, I loved it. Very intense.

Re: Misc Stuff

Dude, it wasn't easy for me to get Lost either, so I guess I could handle Prison Break too. But I am watching too many shows already, maybe I should wait with that for some other time.

Re: Misc Stuff

Tonight I saw proof that even Germans can make decent animation movies. smile I'm betting that no one but Anne will know what I'm talking about when I say that tonight I watched "Lissi und der wilde Kaiser" in the theater. It's a German comedy about the Austrian emperor/empress couple. Total spoof. It sprang from a TV show that these three Bavarian guys did on German TV and I loved it. Lissi and Franz were some of their recurring characters and everyone loved them.

Deb, these are the same guys who did the German spoof movie about Native Indians. They're great. But I'm really sure this movie wouldn't work anywhere outside of Germany/Austria/Switzerland because most of the jokes are inside jokes that you only get when you either know the original movies they did the parody on (not sure if they were German or Austrian) or know their TV show.

Re: Misc Stuff

The movie also lives through the different accents they do (mostly Austrian German), so I guess that would get lost too if you didn't speak German and couldn't tell the difference in accents. That's one of my chief complaints about dubbing. In 9 out of 10 cases, they will not dub different accents as such. Kinda like in Braveheart in the German version the Scottish and the English spoke with the same German accent. Or rather spoke German with no real accent. But then again, it would have sounded ridiculous if they had dubbed the Scots with, say, a Bavarian accent and the English with a northern German accent. It's such a shame that sometimes through dubbing you lose some of the charm a movie or TV show offers...

In rare cases they would manage to translate accents to something that works in German as well. I can't remember what movie it was, but there was something where they gave someone who had a weird accent in the original version a Dutch accent in German, and that totally worked. Or at least so I have been told as I didn't watch the dubbed version myself.

Re: Misc Stuff

So this movie is watchable? Okay, then I am going to see it soon, I think. I was curious, because I loved Der Schuh des Manitu, but I didn't like what I saw from that Ghost story.

Re: Misc Stuff

This new movie is definitely watchable, but kinda lame next to Schuh des Manitu and Traumschiff Surprise. It has a few good jokes and it is pretty funny, but if you're expecting 90 minutes of slapping your thighs, you'll be in for a disappointment. It's cute and I love Bully and the guys, so for me it was a must-see.

Re: Misc Stuff

Oh yeah, I forgot Traumschiff Surprise. This movie is hilariously funny. Well, I might not spend so much money for a cinema visit, maybe I am going to wait and watch it on DVD.

Re: Misc Stuff

There's a movie on cable right now called Trust The Man, and they're using TeeJay's favorite Alpha Dog song, Bullet & A Target.  Doesn't really fit in this movie.  But this thing is also made by Sidney Kimmel Entertainment so they must own that song.

It's funny, uncle Scrooge (?) was called "Dagobert" in the German version. I have some problems to understand though. Have to get used to their voices. LOL
