New Superbowl TV Spot and a few screencaps from it at link below.

For some reason I can't play the TV Spot, but the screencaps looks good. I wonder what's happening in that shot where a beam is hitting the water in San Francisco.

Re: Star Trek (2008 movie)

I saw the Superbowl spot during the Superbowl (which I only watched for the move ads). Looks very good. The Enterprise re-design is growing on me more and more. The only slightly goofy scene is them sky-diving and one of them yelling. But otherwise looks like it could be a vey good film.

Speaking of the Superbowl movie ads, I will say that I was disappointed in Up and Fast and the Furious spots. Monsters vs. Aliens looks very good.
The Land of the Lost spot looks ok, but it looks more like they are lost in a land where multi-time lines are all in one place or something. Dinos looks good. Sleestaks are spot on from the 1970's version(which I only remember from an old viewmaster my brother has).

I got to see the RTWM ad during the StupidBowl, which I only watched for about 15 minutes while waiting for The L Word to start.

Re: Star Trek (2008 movie)

Here's the Playmates toy line packaging and sales sheets.

FYI: These are from Japan, but it should be a good indicator of what the English packaging will look like.

PlaymatesBridgePlaysetsalessheet.jpg

PlaymatesEnterprisesalessheet.jpg
PlaymatesEnterprisepackaging.jpg

In case you're wondering why the Bridge playset has fewer pieces than what the previous picture showed is because you get more Bridge pieces with the 4 inch figures.

I will say that from a collector's stand point that the packaging for the Communicator, Phaser and Tricorder is bad. It's bad because it's obvious that the toy has batteries installed to hear the sounds. So to protect the toy you have to open the packaging, which on a blister-pack is impossible to do without ruining the packaging. The old Playmates toys came in boxes, which made it much easier to remove the batteries from the toy.

Re: Star Trek (2008 movie)

I saw a cardboard standup (or whatever you call these) for the Trek movie in the Regal in Washington where I watched Race to Witch Mountain. I was tempted to take a picture of it, but then I thought it would be a little too nerdy. wink It looked pretty cool, though. It was the Star Trek logo writing on a black background with b/w portraits of the crew filling out the letters.

Re: Star Trek (2008 movie)

So I went grocery shopping and I found some Eggo items with a Star Trek movie plate offer.
They were on sale for $2 each, so I bought 4 of them to get 2 of them.

Here is what the Eggo plate looks like.
Waffle_b.jpg

Kellogg's is going to have quite a few items available.

The badges look real cool imo.
AppleJacks_b.jpg

Not too excited about the T-shirt.
FrostedKrispies_b.jpg
or the Flash Drive either.
FrostedFlakes_b.jpg

You can also get to see the movie for free. However you have to send in 5 tokens and wait to get it via mail. (Kind of a dumb way to do it imo.)

Re: Star Trek (2008 movie)

First hinted at here at TrekMovie last June, Paramount have finally sealed the deal for the Trek's 'Supreme Court' to move forward on a sequel to their new Star Trek, five weeks before it even opens up. Variety broke the news Monday night, see below for the first details on the new Star Trek movie.

Get Ready for another Star Trek in 2011

Here are the facts from the Variety report:

    * All five "Supreme Court" members back as producers: JJ Abrams, Bryan Burk, Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof
    * Script to be written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof (story in 'embryonic' stage)
    * JJ could possibly direct, no decision yet
    * Script to be delivered by Christmas 2009 for a possible Summer 2011 release

This is essentially the same set up as the first deal back in 2006 for the current film. Abrams did not sign on as director for the film until early 2007. The only difference is that Lindelof (an Emmy winning writer) is now also listed as screenwriter. However, in previous interviews with both Lindelof and the writers, it has been indicated that Damon worked closely with the writers as they were working on the script.

Re: Star Trek (2008 movie)

Austin, TX Fans Given Surprise Showing of ENTIRE Star Trek Movie

Tonight Paramount pulled off one of the coolest stunts in fan history. Promoted as just a 10 minute preview of the new Star Trek to show along with The Wrath of Khan, tonight fans in Austin, TX were actually shown the entire new Star Trek movie (hours ahead of the gala world premiere in Sydney, Australia). The event included surprise guests, including the original Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy.

Surprise!
According to our man on the scene, the evening started off normally at the Fantastic Fest Star Trek event at the Alamo Draughthouse Theater in Austin, Texas on Monday night. Star Trek filmmakers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof kicked things off by telling the crowd of around 200, that they would be seeing the Star Trek preview after Wrath of Khan. Two minutes in to the showing of TWOK, the film appeared to have 'melted' and the guys came back out on the stage and appeared to be stalling for time while the film was fixed…and then, wearing a ball cap, Leonard Nimoy came out in front of the audience holding a film can.

Nimoy noted to the crowd that it just didn't seem fair that people in Australia were the fist to see the film and asked them "wouldn't you rather see the new movie?" And apparently the crowd went wild. After that they showed the entire new Star Trek movie. Nimoy stayed for the entire event as did Orci, Kurtzman and Lindelof.

According to a friend who called in to TrekMovie after the event, the audience reaction was positive. There were "genuine laughs" at the jokes and "quiet moments" with the serious character stuff. And apparently the crowd applauded at the introduction to each character.

TrekMovie will update this article with images from the event, but it just ended a few mimutes ago. Here is a picture sent to TwitPic by Neil Miller of FilmSchoolRejects.com.
