Re: Race To Witch Mountain

Awwww, that's great.  I'm glad he had fun.  big_smile

THERE ARE NO STORY SPOILERS IN THIS POST.  WHAT I TELL YOU REVEALS NOTHING OF THE PLOT THAT WE DON'T ALREADY KNOW...

Just got home from seeing the movie.  I loved it!  Gotta say though that Chris is on screen a good bit, but he doesn't have much dialog.  Still, he is ADORABLE when they do let him talk.  And I must point out that he's very handsome in his Men In Black garb.  Cute hair, too.  I can totally see how he might fit into a sequel. (Deb crosses fingers)

I'll probably see it again Sunday and I'll write more about it as I absorb it all.  And for me, there's a LOT to absorb.  So many in-jokes, I couldn't possibly fully appreciate them all in the first viewing.  If you're not a fan of the originals, all of that will be lost on you.  Doesn't matter, the movie is a lot of fun even if you've never seen the 70's films.  Everyone did a great job.  I giggled, I grinned, I even pumped my fist a couple of times.  And I cried at the end.  Not sad tears, very happy tears.  It's that kind of movie.  Not one you'd expect to make you choke up and then suddenly, you've got tears in your eyes.

My favorite thing in the movie is the spectacular opening sequence in which all the major important UFO sightings and stories are referenced.  The real UFOlogy in the movie will also be lost on anyone who isn't into that, but I am VERY MUCH into it.  And it's all there.  I never found Bill Birnes in the movie itself, but a TV clip of him was used.  I never saw Dr. Leir either, though his name was in the brochure for the UFO convention that Alex gives Jack.  But I found Whitley and Anne Strieber.  They're both in the meager audience at Alex's lecture and a little later, when Burke and his team show up and Alex, Jack and the kids are trying to shake them, there was Whit.  He steps out of his booth to speak to Alex and she goes, "Not now, Whitley" and kind stiff-arms him as they hustle past him.  It was a real hoot for me.  His booth in the movie has placards of the real covers of his books and I just loved that.

Whit, Anne, Andy & Dr. Roger Leir...
Witch1-1.jpg

Dwayne, Anne & Whit...
Witch2-1.jpg

And of course, Annie's in green as she always is when she's going to be filmed or photographed.  They were wearing their own real clothes, not movie wardrobe.  smile

So yeah, I enjoyed the hell out of the movie.  I hope all you guys like it too.

In this pic, Chris reminds me a bit of Andy Garcia, like he could totally play his son in something...

I know, it made something like $25 million this weekend and put Watchmen in second place. That's pretty cool.

It's well beyond pretty cool.  It should help with future casting prospects, and sequel potentential.

Re: Race To Witch Mountain

It's cool that Knowing was #1.  It deserves to be.  And look how far Watchmen has fallen.  I thought it would do better, but I guess with the R rating and the fact that so many hardcore fans of the book are bashing it online, the decline is to be expected.

Re: Race To Witch Mountain

I saw Witch Mountain on Friday, yay! I wish I had more time to write down my thoughts, but since I'm still traveling and barely have time to check my e-mail, I'm not sure when I'm gonna be able to get to that. It was a fun action movie that I quite liked. However, it's not a movie I feel I need to watch multiple times. I might see it again in April in Germany, but that would be only for Chris and only if it's not dubbed.

Like Deb already said, Chris can be seen in a number of scenes, but very often it's just a few seconds, a line here and there or a close-up to capture the look on his face. Not a lot of dialogue at all. He does provide quite a bit of comic relief. There were maybe 20 people with me in the theater, and one of Chris's lines (can't remember which one) got a laugh out of most of them.

I think what bothered me most was that in most scenes that Chris is in, I had to make an effort to actually look at him. He's one of the two sidekicks of the main villain (the other is Tom Everett Scott), and whenever the three villains are shown, Chris is usually not the character that a non-Dorquette would pay attention to. I still hope the popularity of the movie will garner Chris some much needed attention in the industry.

I will second Deb when she says Chris looks adorable in the movie. I just wish they would have used him more. Getting the DVD will be neat because we'll get a few great screencaps of close-ups of Chris's face. :dancing:

Re: Race To Witch Mountain

Yeah, see, I'm lucky to have all that other stuff to love about the movie.  Whitley and UFOlogy and all.  And the cool homages to the originals that I was literally obsessed with between the ages of 11 & 13.  If not for all of those things, I might have been disappointed at how little Chris is used, but Tom Everett Scott is almost a non-entity, poor guy.  At least Chris gets to be funny and cute.  I don't know if I should say this, but we kind of knew that might be the case, even though Andy Fickman personally denied to me on direct questioning that he cut Chris out of anything.  Of course I begged him to put anything he did cut in the deleted scenes on the DVD.  I'm just very happy that he's in a movie that is making money and will be seen by a LOT of people for a long time to come with International release and DVD and cable and then eventually broadcast TV.  Most people are having fun with it, unless they already have issues with The Rock. We have a troll infestation on IMDb, but that's to be expected, I guess.

I definitely recommend checking it out, whether you see it in the theater or wait for DVD.  Have some popcorn and just kick back and enjoy.

Wanna have a good laugh? Watch the German Trailer!

Or no, don't watch it. It featured horrible voices. I'd say the good thing is that this time they didn't give Chris a high-pitched teenage voice, I actually think it's a little too deep because it sounds a little too old for a young FBI agent, at least for my taste Not that I ever planned to watch the dubbed version. I pray to God that my little OV theatre is going to show the Original. Unfortunately there is no sign on their homepage yet, but since it's only a small theatre it could take a little longer until they get the movie.

In the original trailer, Chris says "Awesome!" In the German version he says "Unfassbar!" which means something like "Inconceivable!" or "Unbelievable!" AnnaSophia sounds like a 5-year-old. I know why I try to avoid dubbed movies like the cholera.

Re: Race To Witch Mountain

I guess there is just no other translation for "awesome" in that context. Plus they have to make it look like he's saying the German word, so they have to go with the lip moves. But I told you not to watch it! tongue
Johnson's voice sucks, too. It totally ruined the "Take me to you leader" thing. But well, that's only cool in English anyway! LOL big_smile
