Sounds like there might be a glimpse or two of Chris in the trailer they showed at Comic Con yesterday. I didn't get to see G4 interview The Rock last night, but Dave's going to tape it for me today. Hopefully G4 was allowed to use the trailer in the interview. We'll see.

SDCC 08: IGN Scales Witch Mountain
The Rock and company Race to Comic-Con.
by Jim Vejvoda
July 24, 2008 - IGN attended Disney's presentation today at San Diego Comic-Con for their upcoming adventure film Race to Witch Mountain, an update of the original 1975 film Escape to Witch Mountain. Stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Carla Gugino and director Andy Fickman were on the panel.
The movie stars AnnaSophia Robb (Bridge to Terabithia, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and Alexander Ludwig (The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising) as twin siblings with paranormal abilities and a mysterious past. The Rock plays a Las Vegas cabbie who joins a disgraced astrophysicist, portrayed by Gugino, to save the twins from a nefarious organization that wants to exploit their powers. Ciaran Hinds (Rome) is the villain.
The director and two his stars presented the still-in-the-works trailer for the film. It opens at night a shot traveling down a paved road through the woods. Strange flashes of light occasionally shoot through the frame. The voiceover narration tells us that all the unexplained events and paranormal phenomenon of the world leads back to -- as the shot fully reveals an ominous mountain at the end of the road -- Witch Mountain, which is then spelled out in Transformers-style steel lettering.
It cuts to a government agency control room where we see on a computer screen something otherworldly crashing into the earth's surface. There are shots of a military convoy and government agents led by Ciaran Hinds, as well as a lab with several white-clad bodies lying on operating tables. We are then introduced to the story's two young leads (Robb and Ludwig), who we see have special powers.
They go on the run, receiving aid from a brawny cabbie played by Johnson. This is where the trailer kicks into full action movie mode, with car chases, explosions, and revelations of extraterrestrial life. The trailer's first half suggested a cross between The X-Files and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, while the latter half had more of an X-Men or Men in Black fantastical action vibe to it.
Director Fickman, a self-professed huge fan of the original films, confirmed that those movies' leads -- Kim Richards and Ike Eisemann -- have supporting roles in his version. The director stressed that his movie is not a remake or a sequel but a reimagining that picks up the mythology thirty years after the first films were set. He added that, as fantastical as the film is, he strove for a sense of reality, and sought out UFO experts and military and CIA advisers for assistance.
Race to Witch Mountain opens March 13, 2009.

Call me daft or blind (or both), but who of them is Chris? I have a hard time making anyone out in those face mask suits. To me it looks more like the second from the left might be him.

Third from the left. Look at the nose and the open mouth. Plain as day to me.
Just a reminder of what he looked like during the shoot...

After waiting so long for Fanboys, when I heard this was comming out I kind of did a little dance. I have a feeling we won't have 100,000 push backs and stalls and story changes like we've had with Fanboys. I loved this movie when I was a kid so that's a plus, but the fact that Chris is in it...Oh YEAH baby!! And that first picture, yeah he stands out with the mouth and the face and the nose. It's a nice little teasing type picture. LOVE IT ALL!

This one has a locked-in release date and a really competent director. No controversy and a huge marketing arm. My butt will be in the theater on March 19, 2009. I will probably take the day off, just fore the hell of it. I was obsessed with the Witch Mountain movies as a kid. No exaggeration. You can ask anyone who knew me. I still have the vinyl LP of the first movie. And I bought the Special Edition DVDs of both as soon as they came out. And watched them both in the first two days I owned them, all special features included. I know them by heart. I'm really glad Andy has populated his reboot with people I love. Otherwise, I would've been a bit miffed about it. Now, I'm beyond geeked-up.

I am so with you there Deb. It being remade has caused me to pull out my DVDs and set the kiddos down to watch it with me because it dawned on me they'd never seen it and that was just uncalled for. Plus, they need to know the history behind the movie when they see the new one with me...Which the will...The day it comes out. I really don't care what is going on that day as well, I could be going in to labor (ok I know that isn't going to happen lol but I'm just sayin!) and I plan on sitting my butt in that cushy chair with my soda and popcorn. TRY TO STOP ME!!!!!!

Siblings are 6 and 7, then 11 but I doubt he'll be watching it lol.
Then my love's baby is 3...I'm going to try to get her to sit still but I don't know how that'll work out...She's in the crazy monkey stage right now.

Awww. Sweet. Yeah, 3 might be a little young. I was 11 when I fell in love with the original. My best friend at the time also loved both movies and he was the same age as me. I guess kids are more sophisticated these days.

Blah, that's what I HATE about kids these days. He'd rather be on the net, or playing xbox or PS3 or watching slapstick funny movie (sure I love em too but come on! throw other things in there too!!) the kid knows nothing of good pure movies. It's a huge let down, he's never even seen the Wizard of Oz before!!! How crazy is that?? I think I'll force him to watch the movies though, he just got his leg all cut up and had to get a bunch of stiches so he can't really walk or run away...Still have a week before school starts, I'm sure I could plan something in that time. MAWHAHA!

LOL! Yeah, and ply him with yummy, non-sugary snacks while he sits and just gives them a chance.

I'm sure once I started them he'd get into em. Who can't? I mean really now!
Plus I'm sure if I tell him the kid from Just Friends is in the new one he'll want to see it with me, and I could make some kind of deal that I'd take him if he watched the old ones.
That could work...Right?

I hope so. Hard to tell. I'm proud of TeeJay for giving the first one a chance just recently. She didn't hate it or anything and said she'd look at the sequel sometime too. I just wonder if the charm of the originals might not be lost on some people. I can't narrow it down to a group of people. The movies have hardcore fans of all ages and backgrounds. Maybe you have to be familiar with and enjoy that specific era of live action Disney. All those films had a certain style to them, even as they evolved over the course of a couple of decades. It either reaches you, or it doesn't.

I agree, I think that once you just sit down and give it a shot you see that it is a good movie, great idea, and a sweet story. I remember for the longest time after that movie I kept asking my mom where my twin was lol.

I daydreamed about having a black cat named Winky. Also, when my friend Gary and I saw the second movie, we would re-enact it. We were like 12 or 13. He even made a replica of remote mind control thingie. It had working lights and everything. His dad was a technician at Lockheed so it was nothing for them to make this thing. It really looked cool too. Weirdly, my dad built aircraft there at Lockheed too. He was a DOD employee and we were never allowed to know exactly what the specific nature of his job was. I do know that he was fascinated with advanced tech and UFOs. I grew up interested in them too and I don't even remember how it started. I was just always into the space program and mysteries and stuff.

Wow...that is so cool dude! My friends and I would re-enact it as well lol but we never were able to get that into it! That is so cool though. Lucky! Haha.
See, this is why I like when they do remakes (if they pick a good cast, which they have, and follow the story well enough) it brings back so many good memories of childhood and smiles and it just makes you happy.
Chris is gonna rock this film.

Yep, seems like it's gonna be way fun. Have you seen AnnaSophia Robb in anything? I recently saw The Reaping and thought she was really good. I've only seen her in a couple of things. Alexander Ludwig, I know zero zilch nada about.

She's good. Comming into her skin witht he acting world and all. From what I've seen her in she's good. I hear the other kid is good too, he was in this new movie about like...time jumping or something. I just know that the kid was the younger brother and always got picked on but all the sudden he had all these random powers or something..Never saw it but he looked like he was ok in it from what I saw in the preview...Then again that's how they want you to think sooo who knows. Time shall tell. I think I might rent that movie before this one comes out just to get a feel of how his acting is.

Not a bad idea. Let me know the title when you find out what it is.
