It's called sarcasm. Of course Anne's NOT the only one who appreciates the man for his talent. It was such an absurd thing to say I couldn't help the snark. I wanted to use and eyeroll emoticon, but I figured that was too mean. Come on! We're just having some fun here. If anyone is offended by talk of The Silk, mayhaps they should move on to a more innocent thread. Reckon?

I would really like if IMDB would forbid threadcrapping.
In case you don't know what threadcrap is, here is a definition from the dvdtalk forum.
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=214035
What is a threadcrap?
A "threadcrap" is a term we've come to use here at DVD Talk for a post (usually negative) that is off the topic of the thread in which it is posted, or criticizes/ridicules the thread starter or the thread itself. Threadcraps usually have no reasoning behind them, but this is not always the case. This definition is not meant to be all inclusive, but it is meant to give you a general idea of what the term means. Ultimately, the moderators hold the final word on what is or is not a threadcrap.
Can you give me an example?
One commonly seen threadcrap is someone posting that "___________ is a crappy song/artiste" in a thread dedicated to information about the CD/concert etc. The point of the thread isn't really to discuss the quality of the artiste, but to discuss the CD/concert etc
Another commonly seen threadcrap is quoting someone else's post and saying "that's a stupid thing to say." If you think someone's wrong, point out the correct information or provide your interpretation of events without attacking the other person.
What's the big deal about threadcraps?
The purpose of the DVD Talk Forum is discussion. Threadcraps interfere with the flow of discussion. Something that goes against the purpose of the forum and rudely interrupts a discussion between members has no place on this forum.
What should I do if I think I see a threadcrap?
1. Don't reply to it with a snide (or otherwise) remark. Although it's often fun , it just leaves more for moderators to clean up afterwards. And since it's a reply to an off-topic comment, the reply itself is probably off-topic, so it doesn't belong in the thread either.
2. Do click on the "Report this post to a moderator" link that is in the post. An e-mail will be sent the moderators of the forum, and they will decide on what action to take. This could be anywhere from nothing (if the post is actually on-topic) to a suspension or banning (for repeat offenders), or anything in between.
------------------------------
Appendix
What do I do if I feel that one of my posts was wrongly deleted as a threadcrap?
1. Don't post about it in the thread. It's possible that the moderator who deleted your post will never read that thread again, so he won't see your concern and/or complaint. In addition, if the first post wasn't off topic, this second post about the first post definitely is.
2. If you'd like, do e-mail that moderator directly about the post. You are much, much more likely to get a response if you send an e-mail to the moderator.
I see it all the time on IMDB. Someone will post about some artist's cd or movie and instead of discussing that, they'll bash the singer or actor instead of discussing the cd or movie.
I also hate it when people bash other IMDB users instead of offering their opinion about the person, music or movie (or whatever) and start bashing the person for liking something they don't. I see it quite a bit on movie forums where someone will post their opinion about the movie and you'll get someone that calls that persons IQ, education, mentality or downright call them stupid, moronic or the like.
Now of course IMDB would never even consider putting such a ban into effect, as we know they just have so much work to do. Such as put up wrong info into a film's profile instead of monitoring their message boards.
Offline
No of course they won't. They don't care. I've picked up a couple of psycho stalkers on IMDb lately, as some of you know, who followed me around and posted nothing but insults at me. Had nothing to do with any movie or show. They were just personal attacks against me. It took me and several of my friends from here constantly reporting this one guy to get him to finally shut the hell up and leave me alone. Those of you who saw the things he said to me know that this stuff was FAR beyond the pale of normal trollery. There are some people on IMDb with certifiable mental disorders, and the mods do almost nothing to police them. Even when they brazenly announce that their sole purpose in life is to target other people and someone and make them miserable. Even when they admit to having multiple ID's for the specific purpose of harassing people. Let's face it, IMDb has the worst moderators in cyberspace. And I don't think that's ever going to change.

I'm not defending them at all, but it is a really big website and they probably don't have the correct amount of moderators to deal with it all. Unless, of course, someone innocently goes on the Jonas Brothers board to ask why they're so popular (because, really, I don't see it), then the post was gone in fifteen minutes and I'm branded a troll .
If there aren't a slew of reports against you in under an hour, I guess it's just not worth their time.

I really think they thought the message boards were a good idea when they began. A place where fans of film/TV & stars could have rational discussions about those. But with poor rules, crappy moderation and juvenile users it has turned into nothing less than a joke.
A line I hate is when people say "This isn't a fan board, it's a discussion board."
This is often used by those that have nothing good to say about anything. I'm fine with someone saying their peace about someone/something once or twice, but when it's just constant and basically they become obsessed with putting those things down, including those that like it/them that I have the major problem with.

Very well said, Illinois. If people are going to discuss things on a message board it shouldn't be negative. Having an opposing opinion to something is fine as long as you keep it to yourself or have a mature discussion about it in a reasonable manner. All they prove by posting rude comments about a celeb or TV/movies is that they have no life.
Once some loser on IMDB said "it's funny you should say people who spread negative but personal opinions on the boards have no life. I think it's the other way around. To me, it's crazed fans like you that have no life and people like you prove it by always defending celebs and TV/movies."

It's funny though, because the people that say "it's not a fan board it's a discussion board" are generally the people that don't want to have a discussion about the movie and their opinions on it. They just want to comment loudly on how bad they thought it was without actually discussing why, casting choice, plot etc. I don't have a problem with people who actually want to talk about it, just people who act like no discussion is necessary because of course their opinion rules all.

Reasoned discussions with negative opinions are perfectly fine. Personal attack on people who do not share your opinion ought to get you banned. But on IMDb, they expect people to just take it. Even when it becomes stalking. That's unacceptable.

Funny there is a thread about this because, these are the very reasons I joined the site....because you are all quite respectful of each other and Chris. You all show a love and respect for Chris and don't waste time with asinine questions and insulting words. I can hardly stomach that IMDB board after visiting your site. You guys are wonderful...they are not...the end <3.

I really agree. IMDB has some of the rudest people and don't get me started on the Buffy MB. You get flamed whenever you mention anything that isn't an argument of who Buffy loves more; Angel or Spike.

LOL! Yeah, I just got my ass shredded last week on the IMDb Fanboys MB by some johnny-come-lately assbag who knows nothing, just for trying to make people understand that basically no Fanboys release date can be trusted. They announce and they cancel, announce and cancel. At this point, I probably wouldn't believe a release date unless it was literally carved in stone.
Theatrical release dates announced: 7
Theatrical release dates canceled: 7
DVD release dates announced: 2
DVD release dates canceled: 1 (so far)

This one of the reasons we are all here. we enjoy friendly reasonable discussions (something which rarely happens on the imdb boards). It doesn't mean we will always agree, but we respect each others opinions.
Joan: So, my true nature is to be a catalyst? That is mad anti-climatic.
God: Anti climactic. Anti-climatic means you're against the weather.

Yeah, but at least this time, it's not because TWC doesn't believe in it. They love the final cut. They just don't have the money to make 1500 prints and to advertise it properly the way MGM wants to. It may end up getting a limited release. It's all still up in the air.
