I hardly ever go to see movies in the theater unless I'm with my dad on my birthday or something. SotP is one of the movies I really want to see in theaters this year (the other being Twilight). Movies up here have been expensive my entire life, so when I went to the movies someone always had a giant purse or bag of some kind and we shoved popcorn and soda and stuff in it then took it to the theater. One less thing we need to waste money on

In this case, TeeJay, once the movie's over, you may question whether it was better than nothing. But do stay for the tag after the credits. It's priceless.

Today, Alexis is the #1 search on Yahoo and Sisterhood is #8. Guess people are into it.

I planned to see Prince Caspian too, but I spent so much money for Mamma Mia last week and I definitely want to see TDK on big screen, so I'm going to wait for the DVD. As for the Sisterhood movie, I'll have to wait anyway.

I don't know which movie you watched, Deb, but I quite enjoyed X-Files. Maybe I should post the rest in the X-Files thread.

I watched a muddy, cheap-looking mess of a movie that in the end left me pretty disappointed.

I always do that too. The prices at the concession stand are really high and ridiculous.

I take in an empty water bottle and fill it at the water fountain. I only need hydration to get through a movie. Not really into the snacking part of the ritual.

I never snack at the movies. Unless Ben & Jerry's counts. I do ice cream sometimes, but only when I'm not on my own. And, yes, over here the prices are ridiculous too.

I hate when people eat popcorn in the movies, especially kids. They ususally start tossing it around and giggling stupidly. This is not what I paid for when I am going to the theaters. I only buy snacks and drinks if it's a long movie or if I am really thirsty/hungry and I try to stay quiet while eating/drinking.

Saw it this afternoon. It's absolutely wonderful. Now, keep in mind that I haven't read the books, so I can't say how faithful it is. But it was a lot of fun. Everyone did a terrific job. I laughed, I got choked up a few times. The boys were adorable. I think I had a smile on my face for pretty much the entire movie. What more can anyone ask?

Other cool things about the movie...
Lena is on scholarship at R.I.S.D.
Blythe Danner plays Bridget's grandma.
Jesse Williams in the buff.

This review gives Amber the credit she deserves:
Review: 'Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2'
Ruthe Stein, Chronicle Senior Movie Writer
Wednesday, August 6, 2008
POLITE APPLAUSE The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2: Teen drama. Starring Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, Blythe Danner and Leonardo Nam. Directed by Sanaa Hamri. (PG-13. 117 minutes. At Bay Area theaters.)
A pair of secondhand jeans inset with rhinestones plays a major role in "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2." Anyone who saw the first movie or read the novels that inspired the films will be familiar with these well-worn bottoms. They serve as a bond among four girlfriends. Each can magically squeeze into them, although the pals are different sizes and shapes.
Their lives, already starting to pull apart in the first "Pants," diverge further in this thoroughly engaging sequel, which has some wisdom to impart but does so softly. With one year of college behind them, the girls are on the cusp of becoming adults. Holding on to the past is difficult when the future keeps intruding. To remind themselves of what they had together as best friends, they mail the gritty jeans to one another at various summer ports of call.
Most exotic is Bridget's (Blake Lively, now famous as the star of "Gossip Girl"). She's off on an archeological dig in Turkey, where she comes to appreciate that the skulls they dig up were once people, too. Carmen (Emmy-award winner America Ferrera of "Ugly Betty") starts out working backstage at a theater festival in Vermont but is elevated to lead actress. Lena (Alexis Bledel) is an art student whose eyes flutter before they can focus on male nude models, and Tibby (Amber Tamblyn) is in Manhattan attempting to finish her first film while clerking at a video store.
What elevates "Pants" to must-see status for teenage girls is that the opposite sex is peripheral to the foursome's adventures. They're terrific role models because they like boys but aren't boy crazy, the way most Hollywood movies would have portrayed them. Take away the men from "Sex and the City," and all that's left are designer shoes and finery.
The writer (Elizabeth Chandler, whose credits include "A Little Princess") and director (newcomer Sanaa Hamri) keep four different but very feminine stories running with no clunky transitions. The girls' escapades artfully blend into one another, and you're not aware until later of how few scenes the actresses share.
Given the juiciest plotline, Tamblyn goes for it, turning in a hard-boiled performance that's a needed contrast to her co-stars' tendency to go for sweet. Tamblyn has that slightly seedy appeal of a film noir heroine. Watch her reaction when Tibby's boyfriend (Leonardo Nam) comes out of the john and tentatively tells her his condom malfunctioned. She seems determined not to let him see how his news devastates her, potentially quashing all her plans.
Tibby begins dressing like a Goth, with deep purple hair and black lace gloves, and terrifying customers renting videos. Asked for a romance, she suggests the "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre."
The pants arrive just as Tibby is losing it. She slips into them and practices yoga moves while praying to the jeans for a miracle. They mainly act as a reminder for her to reach out to her buddies, which she does, with surprising results.
Chandler's multilayered script, unusually thoughtful for a teen flick, returns again and again to the notion that friends are there to offer support. So when Carmen can't get to the hospital to watch her mother give birth because it's opening night of her show, she calls Tibby, who arrives in time to hold Mom's hand through the labor and videotape the delivery. And when Lena rejects her Greek boyfriend, Tibby, Bridget and Carmen descend on a Greek island to make his case for him.
"Pants 2" feels long for this kind of movie. It would have been tighter and better without a segment about Bridget discovering the Alabama grandmother (Blythe Danner) she thought had deserted her after the suicide of Bridget's mom. This part strays from the main theme of how the residuals of longtime friendships keep paying, like a pair of pants that arrive in the mail just when they're needed.

I loved the Sisterhood-movies. They might be the only thing besides JoA that I've seen Amber in. I absolutely loved all the four actresses in these movies. Loved the Greece-scenes. I so want to travel around the Mediterranian sea some day.

Recommended Amber... Stephanie Daley. She turns in a STUNNING performance. The Russell Girl. Quietly intense and moving. Normal Adolescent Behavior. The movie got kinda mangled in the editing, but her character is truly unique and fascinating. And sexy. I loved it, in spite of the fact that almost everyone involved disowned the studio's final cut.

I do snack in theathers. :embarrassed: I'm sorry! But I always try not to make a mess or noise, even when I was a kid. To me the theater-experience has always been a rare treat so I try to take the most of it. I've never concidered making a mess part of that experience. And I think about the poor cleaners that have enough work without me beeing an idiot too!
I think it's an important part of the expereince to have a half a liter soda and some popcorn and chocolate with me. All tough, lately I've only consumed a little of that. But they still need to be there. Just in case. :silly:

I read the Sisterhood books a while before the first movie and I liked the first one but for some reason when I saw the trailer for the second it just didn't look that great. I thought it might have lost it's "magic." I don't know if anybody else felt that way. Maybe I'll rent it one day because you can't really trust trailers.

I saw it and loved it. The ad campaign was lackluster, all right. But the movie is really good. Especially if you love Amber and America. It's their show. Again. And there's cute boys! What more do you need? Have you seen Stephanie Daley, Dawn?

I saw the movie in Canada three weeks ago. I loved it too. I didn't think it lost in quality as compared to the first movie. The girls are all adorable. I loved Bridget's storyline.

It's a really sad story... Amber plays a 16 year old who got pregnant. She denied her pregnancy the whole time, mostly to herself because no one else knew, then killed her baby after giving birth in a bathroom.
