Re: Life During Wartime (STRONG LANGUAGE - ADULT CONTENT)

I've watched LDW today, and I feel the same way Rick does. I liked it better than Happiness, but it's still very heavy material. I thought Chris's scene was probably the most powerful one of the whole movie. It's almost at the end (around 1:15, with the movie being just over 1:30 hours long). It literally is only one scene, but it's a long and intense one which includes a little bit of tear duct action. We see him again just shortly, right at the end, not counting the blink-and-you'll-miss-him thing at the Bar Mitzvah.

Screencaps can be found here: http://www.chris-marquette.com/gallery/ … ?album=234
Vidcap is here: http://www.chris-marquette.com/media/vi … _Billy.wmv

Rick also mentioned before that the movie likes to show people's flaws, in Chris's case his acne. You'll be able to see it in the screencaps. I also don't like the slightly ridiculous hairstyle he's wearing, but that's probably only me. He also cracks his knuckles once. Thankfully we don't hear it, otherwise it would have given me goosebumps (and not the good kind)! wink

I'm completely conflicted now about whether to even look at the caps or just wait till I can see the movie.   Damn.

Yeah, and you know what's ironic? In a large part of the scene, he's standing next to a movie poster of "I'm Not There" in his room. Didn't Chris audition for the movie and didn't get the role?

Re: Life During Wartime (STRONG LANGUAGE - ADULT CONTENT)

He auditioned for Factory Girl, actually.  The role was based on Bob Dylan, but not actually him.  Hayden Christensen got it instead.  I didn't know about that movie, so I thought it was I'm Not There, but he said it was the other one.

Re: Life During Wartime (STRONG LANGUAGE - ADULT CONTENT)

Both of them have pretty cool casts, really interesting styles, and tell completely different stories.  But I guess it helps if you like the music and the time period.

I took a glance at the thumbnails, but I'm not ready to view all the caps.  This one struck me, even in miniature...

Would you believe I already got the DVD today?  Thanks!  I'll let you know if it works OK as soon as I get a chance to check it out.  I'm going out tonight, so maybe later when I get back in.

Re: Life During Wartime (STRONG LANGUAGE - ADULT CONTENT)

I followed Carol's advice and watched Chris's clip, then Happiness, then Life During Wartime today.  I liked all of it.  I didn't find either movie funny.  And yes, they had disturbing aspects, but I liked them.  I think my favorite things, all in all, were Jane Adams as Joy, Allison Janney as Trish, the scene where Christina confesses murder to Allen, and Billy in both films.  Heartbreaking stuff.  I find both casts really admirable.  I got a big smile out of seeing Gabby Hoffman in scenes with Chris.  I'm afraid these characters really will stick in my head for a while, but not in the way I expected at all.

That's not what I meant.  It's not out yet, except in the UK.  I mean "online".

Is Life During Wartime on UK BLURAY? If it is I could buy it and watch it on my regular US BLURAY player like I have with my UK BLURAY Mandy Lane.

Re: Life During Wartime (STRONG LANGUAGE - ADULT CONTENT)

Nope, they only releaed it as regular DVD. Oh, and by the way... I learned the other day that some Blu-rays are released codefree, meaning you can play them around the world in any Blu-ray player. Some are still region-coded, though. So it might be that your Mandy Lane disc was codefree, but it doesn't necessarily mean you can play any non-US Blu-ray on your player. There's a website where you can look up many Blu-rays and whether they're codefree or not: http://bluray.liesinc.net/
