I went to pull the quote, and someone has had the posts about the test screenings deleted. Wow. They were very negative posts, but I can't believe they'd get deleted. The studio must've complained.

The guy who posted his negative review from the test screening re-posted it. Here's the part where he mentions the woman...

Four years later he's about to graduate, but decides it's not for him. As he's leaving, a woman is ran over by a car and as she lies in the street dying, begs him to bless her. He does and this has enough of an impact on him to.... Okay, it's supposed to have an impact on him, but he still thinks he's going to leave the seminary. So basically it's a pointless scene.

You know what? I'm gonna be in the US on business that week, actually. But I have a feeling I'm not gonna want to make an effort to see the movie. (I bet I won't have time anyway.) DVD will be fine for this one.

Somehow my interest in this movie has dropped to a below grade level and I don't even really know why. I'm still seeing it of course if I get the chance to, but just for Chris.

Why don't we wait until one of us actually sees it and can give an accurate picture of whether or not it's worth seeing, for Chris or for any other reason? I'm going on Saturday, 1/29 to see it. You can bet you'll all get a full report.

I don't even see the demographic they are trying to appeal to with that poster....*sigh* sometimes I worry about the industry that pays so much money for things but drops the ball on something like that

Yeah, I think I'll do that, too. It's probably just because I have a lot of nasty stuff in my life going on right now and The Rite is not the kind of movie I want to see Chris in at the moment. I guess it's too dark for me right now. I would love to see him in bigger roles, like the kind of drama I like to watch, or maybe even a comedy again. But I'll take what I guess as he is still my favorite actor.

Religion freaks me out. Anthony Hopkins freaks me out. Posessed people freak me out. And still I keep an open mind. I hope it has a good soundtrack. I could not endure dark movies without a good musicscore.

You can't judge a film by a misleading ad campaign either. They're making it look like Hopkins is the lead in some of the commercials and like he's the villain in some and he's neither. The young guy is the lead and Hopkins is more of a victim than a villain. I think for some of us, getting geeked up about a movie like this is a stretch. If Chris wasn't in it, I'd still watch it on cable someday, but I don't think I'd be planning to see it in a theater on opening weekend, as I am now. I just hope Chris is in it more than he's been in most things lately, that's all.

BTW, six little clips from the film have been released. In my opinion, they're boring and talky. And since there's no Chris in them, I saw no point in posting them here. If you want to see them, you can find them through IMDb. I did learn one valuable thing though. The journalist in the film was changed from Matt Baglio, to a chick. So now we know Chris didn't get the role that I thought might be most interesting.

A few days ago I was online on a British (I think) website and the trailer showed up just like that. I was like "Oh, that's Chris's new film but he isn't even in the trailer." and got all disappointed.
