Hey, just noticed on Netflix that the DVD will be available soon and it will be available for instant play also.  Didn't give a date...just said soon.  I'll probably wait for that.

#2 Re: Joan of Arcadia » Adam & God Watch » 07 Jan 12 :: 16:44

Made sense to me given my feeling that if an enemy of Joan's wanted to damage her effectiveness for God they'd go after Adam.

#3 Re: Fan Fiction » Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies » 07 Jan 12 :: 08:26

Yeah...just that small little thing of Adam giving her his mothers ring.  I wanted him to give something of value to her before he went away and I don't really know what made me think of his mothers engagement ring.   Just thought it was a nice idea, I guess.  Just found it interesting that when your version of Adam gives Joan a ring, it's his mothers as well.

#4 Re: Fan Fiction » Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies » 04 Jan 12 :: 20:36

Just funny that our takes on this are on completely opposite ends of the spectrum and yet this one small detail we did almost identical.

#5 Re: Fan Fiction » Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies » 04 Jan 12 :: 19:32

Wow, so just read some more and I want you to know that I wrote mine before I read yours but we both obviously had the same idea about something and it's kind of weirdly awesome.  Just don't want you to think I stole any ideas from you.  I'm going to leave you in suspense because I don't think you've read that far yet.  Anyway....

Love the moment when Joan tells Adam about God....very moving.   Love that Papa Girardi gave Adam such a hard time though I don't really believe that he'd have a problem with Adam and Joan.  Just love the moment....you know, cuz dad's are supposed to grill their daughters suitors that way.  Funny.

#6 Re: Joan of Arcadia » All time favorite scene » 04 Jan 12 :: 15:32

Thats a great picture of Adam and Johnny Godway....Adam is looking at it like its an alien being or something that he would  like nothing more than to flick off of his shoulder.

#7 Re: Joan of Arcadia » All time favorite scene » 04 Jan 12 :: 07:28

That is one of the things about the Zombie show I loved....the fact that the assignment wasn't just for Joan.  It was for Adam too.  I believe that was the only time that God had done that, included Adam in the assignment, actually giving him an assignment of his own even though Adam didn't actually know that it was God.

Also loved when Grace was talking to Joan and suddenly Johnny Godway tuned into their conversation and ended up letting Grace rewrite their whole production.  Everyone else in the room looks totally frustrated except Grace who is smiling like she's so proud of the power she suddenly had.  Great episode all around.

#8 Re: Joan of Arcadia » All time favorite scene » 04 Jan 12 :: 05:37

Love the cheer....great message for kids too.  Zombies was a crazy little show, but the song at the end is priceless.  Love when Joan tells Adam that he'd make a "cute little zombie."  And the eskimo kiss....very cute.

There are so many one liners that I love....like, for example Kevins response to Helen in Dive when she says "I think jumping several feet into a puddle is silly."  and Kevin responds with.  "Actually mom, they replaced the puddles with swimming pools because kids were getting dirty."

Lots of favorite Grace and Luke moments too....love the show towards the end of the second season when Grace gives him a leather jacket than regrets it and wants it back.  Love when she shows up in his room in that cute little kelly green outfit that is so anti-Grace.

Like I said, given enough time to think about it, I could go on and on.

#9 Re: Joan of Arcadia » Adam & God Watch » 03 Jan 12 :: 22:48

Great!  Looking forward to hearing from you!  If you need to wait till you're less busy to proceed, thats okay....I really appreciate you taking the time for it.

#10 Re: Fan Fiction » Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies » 03 Jan 12 :: 20:30

I understand....like I said, I don't feel Adam and Joan should ever have been apart.

If you weren't into the Ryan saga, then you might actually not appreciate my stuff.  Sorry.  If you want to bale on it, its okay.  Just might not be your cup of tea.  But I promise, I don't marginalize Adam because I really cared about him as a character.  He's very, very important to my story.  It's as much, if not more so, about him than Joan.   Well, it's about both of them and I was also very concerned with them having the love story that I felt was robbed from them.  I really was trying to take what I understood about the two years they gave us and continue the story...well...seven years later.  Adam does go through a lot of bad stuff along the way, but in the end he is strong and becomes kind of a hero.

I very much loved how yours began.  Always thought that together or not, Joan would always have a deep love for Adam and would always be there for him no matter what.  They just belong together; enough said.

#11 Re: Fan Fiction » Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies » 03 Jan 12 :: 18:10

So.....finally started this from the beginning....I've read some short fan fics and bits and pieces here and there, but never really read through your epic novel from the beginning.  Since I asked you to read some of my stuff, felt it would be nice to finally read the big one through.  Love how it starts...love Adam all angsty.   Only got through four chapters but will keep going as time allows.  Though mine does have some Adam and Joan romancy stuff in it, yours pretty much grabs it from the start....kind of love that.  My goal was always to get Adam and Joan back to being in love.  Never thought the show should have gravitated away from that, personally.  Will continue my thoughts as I go.

#12 Re: Joan of Arcadia » All time favorite scene » 03 Jan 12 :: 07:00

Okay, another thread from long ago that I wasn't here for.  I have so many favorite moments that I can't narrow it down so there are two that I did not see represented:

"Out of Sight" when Adam finds Joan at the hospital when she's visiting Judith.  Their conversation gets me every time...Adam calls her Joan and she corrects him.  At one point after a moment of silence, he almost whispers Jane at her and his expression is so dang sweet when he does it.

And in "Shadows and Light", when she's really upset about Stevie and she thinks that Adam is mad at her to but he catches her in the hallway anyway, despite being upset with her, and gives her the sweetest hug.

I think I have favorite scenes from just about every episode, and not just Adam and Joan.  Love the expression on Joan's face the first time she see's Luke and Grace kiss on his birthday.

Love the fight scene at the spa in Recreation; in fact, love just about every moment with Will at the spa in this episode.  Also love the conversation between Adam and Joan.  Adam:  So what about us.  Joan: What about us.  Adam:  What about us.  Joan:  What about us.....is this a real conversation or an Abbott and Costello routine.   Love it.

Love Kevin when he does his standup routine...."That was my favorite bomb....Hiroshima.."  fantastic.

Love the moment between Kevin and Joan when Beth breaks his heart....they are in the garage with the infamous boat.

Love the moment in Jump when Helen observes Adam and Joan holding hands....her smile....so much to love about that episode.

And of course, Do the Math is tied with Jump as my favorite episode.  Love the moment in the hallway when Joan tells Adam that she needs him...the look on his face.  And then of course when he nearly kisses her in the shed and then of course the lovely moment on the porch.

So many, so many.....I could go on and on.

#13 Re: Joan of Arcadia » Adam & God Watch » 03 Jan 12 :: 05:25

Yes...it was his choice...no argument there.  But where do temptations like that originate from.  He then has a choice to make after he is tempted.  I'm just saying from a spritual standpoint because it is, after all, a show about God and spiritual matters, if the Devil wanted to destroy Joan's effectiveness for God, tempting Adam in that way was something he would historically do to hurt them both.

The original Adam from the Bible is my case in point:  Eve, tempted by Satan through a snake made the wrong choice and then led the first Adam astray.   Did she have to take the Apple?  Did he have to take the apple?  No, they both chose wrongly.  The temptation though was brought on by Satan.  They both had a choice whether or not to give in to the snake and they both made their own choice to take the apple.  That's all I'm saying.  No wishes for an argument and no one has to agree with me.  This is just the way I see it.

And I bet if you asked Adam Rove himself, he would consider what he did with Bonnie to be a mistake because of all that he lost because of it.  He even says the words, "if I could take it back"  when she's confronting him after the trial.  If he wants to take it back, that means he is remorseful and considers it a mistake.  He loved Joan.  He was dating Joan.  To do what he did was the worst kind of mistake or betrayal that you can do when you are in a relationship with someone that you say you love.

#14 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 03 Jan 12 :: 05:08

I've actually seen him in concert...took my daughter to see him.  It was actually a good concert.  Very clean.  Much better than I expected it to be.  Just bugs me about him being cast in a movie probably without an audition.  I'm sure there are lots of young actors who've been trying their best to get noticed that would have loved the opportunity to play a street basketball player in a Mark Wahlberg movie but was not given a chance at it because of JB.  He should have to work for what he gets just like everyone else on the planet.

#15 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 01 Jan 12 :: 22:00

yeah, i know.  Just bugs me.

#16 Re: Joan of Arcadia » Adam & God Watch » 01 Jan 12 :: 21:58

These are all the thought processes that brought me to my continuation of the story so I obviously have thought through it in depth to come up with some real answers as to why some of the things happened the way they did.  Not sure how far you've read, but in order to arrive at the end story a lot of these questions had to be thought through and answered in a detailed sort of way.  Are you still interested?  Haven't heard from Carol.  I know the holidays are busy....just curious.   Would love a litte feedback when you get the time even if you think the writing stinks.  I take criticism well....i promise.

Did Barbara Hall herself not have some say in the progression of the story?  Have a hard time believing that she was on board with how the second season ended up, I mean with Adam cheating on Joan and all.   Just curious.

#17 Re: Joan of Arcadia » Adam & God Watch » 01 Jan 12 :: 21:40

Obviously they didn't or Adam would never have cheated on Joan...they were just looking for a ratings bump...I get that.

#18 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 01 Jan 12 :: 16:45

Just read where Justin Bieber got cast in a new Mark Wahlbeg film....and it will probably get lots of attention and every teeny bopper girl worldwide will flock to see it just because its him whether he stinks or not....he'll get lots of attention and more fame and more parts just because of who he is.  I'm sure my own girls will want to see it so I hope its clean enough for them to see.  Just wonder why they won't cast real actors in movies....not just anyone they just think will get their movie lots of attention.  Not that I have anything against JB, but really?

#19 Re: Joan of Arcadia » Adam & God Watch » 01 Jan 12 :: 15:00

Won't argue with you there.  Any story needs a bit of conflict to be successful though.  It's just that the kind of conflict they created with Adam was so inconsistent with who they had built as a character that it just felt phony.  I didn't have a problem with there being some kind of conflict to create a bit of tension, but to have him cheat on her was just the wrong way to do it given all the effort they took to build the sweet relationship between them.

The only silver lining for me was that afterward, God made a real effort for Joan to very quickly deal with her anger in Spring Cleaning, and then he started working on her heart to forgive him in the one where he goes missing.  I'm always reminded of the moment right before he came to see her at the bookstore when God talks to her about persion rugs.  How they always leave one flaw to show that only God his perfect.  It was like he was telling her to understand that Adam is human and not perfect and therefore he made a mistake.  That doesn't mean she shouldn't forgive him.  That doesn't mean he's not worthy of her forgiveness.  Interesting that he would expect that of her over something that most people, especially most women, would consider an unforgivable mistake.  But to me thats just further proof that Adam was special to Joan and her relationship to him was important....and maybe his mistake was more to do with an effort on the part of the enemy of God, aka Satan, to destroy Joan's effectiveness by destroying her heart than it was about Adam being a jerk.  To put him in a tempting situation over something he was obviously struggling with anyway, sex, is something that Satan would do to someone.  He knows our weaknesses and he tries his best to hit us in our weakest place.  Not sure if that made sense to anyone, but this is just my effort to make sense of something that really made no sense.

Hey....we've been marathoning Lost for a couple of weeks.  Kids are a little older now and wanted to know what it was so I've been watching it with them.  They would probably understand it better if they would quit asking me to explain it every two seconds and just listen to it.  Hee Hee.

Caught the Zooey and Joey thing yesterday morning...they are very cute....really enjoyed it.

We're just planning to do the normal play games, snack, and watch the ball drop....

Happy New Years!!!!

#21 Re: Joan of Arcadia » Adam & God Watch » 31 Dec 11 :: 06:43

I'm finding it kind of interesting after reading through all of these posts for the first time from so long ago how so many of you were on the same page with my thinking.  Of course I only got introduced to JoA a couple of years ago so its really fresh in my mind, but I always had the same thoughts about Adam.  I wanted to think that it was God's design for Adam to be connected to Joan for some bigger purpose than just dating.  I always noticed how it seemed that so often something she was going through had some kind of effect on him either small or in some cases very large.  And it would make sense to me that if an enemy of Joan's would want to hurt her or damage her effectiveness as a messenger of God, they would go after the one closest to her heart...Adam.

There were so many moments I noticed:

From the second episode....she meets Adam and not only does that connection help Kevin, but it also helps Adam because Joan gets to visit his shed and find out that he's not the person he's led everyone to believe he is.

That show where God tells her that she's going to be in a position to help someone...yeah, Rocky's mom.  But I think God also wanted her to notice Adam's obvious pain.  When he told her that he hates November...that was his cry for help, so to speak.  Finally, at the end of the episode she figured that out and was able to give him the help he needed.

In Recreation, when God tells her to invite Adam and make sure he knows he's invited.  Basically, God was telling her not to confuse him...or to play with his heart.

In The Gift, when God tells her that Adam needs something from her that was God telling her to get closer to him so she could help him with his difficult situation.  Sometimes a gift isn't about a thing.  Sometimes it's about giving something from your heart.

So many more examples I could come up with.  The point is...I know that Adam wasn't supposed to be a full cast member from the get go, but once they started building his storyline and his character it seemed to me that they realized how important Adam needed to be for Joan so they continued to build on that.   Such a shame that once they developed this sweet character and had found this amazing young actor to breathe life into Adam in such a unique and wonderful way, they didn't respect it for what it was.  They ruined it.  Such a shame.

#22 Re: Joan of Arcadia » In defense of Alexis Dziena... » 31 Dec 11 :: 05:55

What I hate is that it didn't actually have an ending....really frustrates me when the people who make decisions to cancel a show prematurely can't be kind enough to tie up all the loose ends and give it a proper ending for the sake of its fans.  They just left us hanging after taking the time to build a new story line arc for the third season.  Really inconsiderate to the fans, if you ask me.

#23 Re: Chris On Screen » Dear Roommate » 31 Dec 11 :: 05:48

Totally agree too.  I've lost count how many times I've watched through this fantastic little short movie.  Wish there was a way to see some of the other short films he's done, in particular Thule.  Really want to see that one but fear it's not going to happen.

Back to Billy, loved Almost Famous and Without Limits...I think I've seen most of his movies actually.   Big Fish was another one of his that I loved.   And Waking the Dead, though it's a bit steamy for me, the emotion he gets with that character brought chills and a few tears of my own.  Talk about someone who can get to the pain of a characters soul...Billy does that amazingly well himself.  Agree that Jesus' Son would be hard to watch more than once.    I think the thing I love about Billy is that you never see him play the same kind of character more than once.  He doesn't allow himself to get typecast into the same kinds of roles.  Then again, he also hasn't been in a lot of movies lately so....

I think Chris has the potential to be that kind of actor...I think thats what I really like about him.  You can tell by the wide mix of characters that he's already taken on.  Actors get boring if they do the same thing over and over again.  Just really looking forward to seeing him finally get a break....hope it happens soon and with something amazing.  He deserves a lot more recognition than he gets, in my opinion.

#24 Re: Chris On Screen » Dear Roommate » 31 Dec 11 :: 00:11

Sounds like Chris is suffering from Billy Crudup syndrome.   Another of my favorite actors who specializes in emotional drama but can really do anything.  Mostly does independent movies and broadway or off-broadway shows...but he is always a pleasure to watch even if the movie is horrible.  If you've never seen Jesus' Son or Stage Beauty, you should just for the joy of his performance.  Jesus' Son  in particular is dark and kind of hard to watch; I call it a drug movie with a heart.  He is fantastic in it though.  Stage Beauty was just a joy to watch the development of his character from the beginning of the movie to the end.  He has just never really found his way into the mainstream because he chooses mostly low-budget independent films because that's where the most challenging and interesting parts are.  Chris is a like a younger version of him in attitude, I think.  Loves acting for the pure joy of acting and not for the fame.  Does emotional drama better than most men would even hope to be able to do and would rather be challenged by a unique and challenging character than get famous off of a bad big budget movie where the characters rarely get developed in any real fashion.  Just the way I see them both....these two guys top my favorite actor list for pretty much the same reasons.

#25 Re: Chris On Screen » Dear Roommate » 30 Dec 11 :: 19:39

Maybe one day....still don't really get Hollywood though.   Kills me how many actors are out there that I think kind of stink at acting but they get a lot of attention.  I can think of one in particular though I don't want to mention any names cuz I don't want to be mean, but I'm never impressed with him at all.  He is one who has worked with Chris before and he had the main charactor but as far as I was concerned, Chris's character was far more interesting and far better acted.   Can't figure why Chris doesn't get a lot of attention, but this guy has been cast a lot in a lot of main roles.  Don't get it really.
