thanx, and I'm sure I get the joke you are refering to.

#230 Re: Square Eyes » Mercy » 22 Apr 10 :: 01:32

Don't know for certain, but it has a much smaller chance than we do.  It is very expensive show, and it's ratings have been as weak or weaker than ours.  I think the plan was to just show what they had already done, but if the ratings have shown any life, maybe. (I haven't been paying attention to its ratings on these last few they showed.

#231 Re: Square Eyes » Mercy » 22 Apr 10 :: 01:21

3 or 4 weeks ago.  It was the second episode with MSM.

We haven't been cancelled, but it seems likely (the ratings are weak and the demographics are worse).  Our hope lies in the fact that the network apparently likes the show, and after the departure of Jay Leno from primetime, they have a lot of space to fill.   But I am trying to get some pilots  so I will be covered for the fall.

#232 Re: Square Eyes » Mercy » 21 Apr 10 :: 23:13

Tonight it starts a 4 straight weeks of new episodes (which will probably be the last 4 episodes of the series)

He is very good, and he has a part which was probably fun to play.  Although for me it is always hard to forget his alter ego.

And you have seen most of ally's part.

#238 Re: Chris On Screen » Life During Wartime (STRONG LANGUAGE - ADULT CONTENT) » 13 Apr 10 :: 00:32

Saw the movie today.  First a few things of interest.  I don't think this one week run means anything about its wider long term release.  The theater I saw it at is at the extreme west end of the Valley, and it wasn't advertised at all (I only knew about it because I went to see Secret of Kells in that theater last thursday).  And it is only playing for one showing a day at noon.  And there were only 6 of us in the theater.  Also, it is scheduled to open at the Hollywood and Santa Monica theaters of this chain in the 3rd week of July.  So, I have no idea why it was playing this week, but I don't think it means anything.  Also, sorry to say there wasn't any of the stuff (handouts etc) they usually have for their movies, another sign this was not a normal run.

As to Chris.  First his hair looks a little better in the movie than in that one shot it the trailer (he is wearing a yarmulke in the scene so it is effecting his hair).  But I am not sure you will be happy with the sceencap possibilities.  If you have seen Happiness and as you will see in this movie before Chris shows up, The filmmakers are not trying to make the people look good.  Not only are they barely wearing any makeup, they are in fact highlighting their weaknesses.  So there are a lot of wrinkles in this film and in Chris's case a lot of acne. He does have a couple of brief scenes out side of the big confrontation scene, but not much. Other than a picture on a wall, he isn't in the first hour of the movie.

As to his performance.  He is really excellent.  The scene could have easily been over the top, but the low key nature of it is really strong.  So, he is playing several emotions at once (and none of them are anger), and it is what makes the scene work.  It is also nice because his performance doesn't feel like anything else I have seen him do.  You get to see some more of his range, and that is definately worthwhile.

As to the movie, I liked it more than Happiness, but it still had some of the same problems for me.  I think it is better because Todd Solondz has grown up some since he made Happiness.  It is not just shock for shock's sake, he tries to make it about more, and that is it's strength.  Unfortunately there is still a fair amount of the pointless "shocking" stuff, and that is it's weakness.  They are saying it is a stand alone sequel(that you don't have to see Happiness to follow it) and I guess it is possible to follow it without having seen Happiness.  But a lot of the scenes directly refer to scenes from the first movie, and some jokes  and drama won't make sense without seeing the first movie.  So, if you plan on seeing this, you should probably see Happiness first (but don't blame me please).

Overall, If you are a die-hard Chris fan, you should see it, it is a worthy performance, and it doesn't feel like you have seen him go there before.  And if you are a casual fan, it is probably still worth it, afterall the movie is only 90 minutes long so how bad can it be.

This is actually showing at a theater near me starting tomorrow.  It is showing once a day (at noon).  I might be able to go on monday (my wife and son are out of town, so I am alone with my 14 year old daughter and there is NO WAY I am taking her to this).  But when she is at school on Monday maybe.  I'll let you know.

#243 Re: Square Eyes » Robert Culp Dead at 79 » 02 Apr 10 :: 02:25

Oh you have just set me going...

The first time he was a security expert and he killed his girlfriend by accident, and he kept trying to bribe Columbo with a high paying job.  Columbo catches him with a contact lens in Culp's trunk.

Second time he was the GM of a football team and he creates an alibi of being in the owners box during a football game when he is actually murdering Dean Stockwell in a swimming pool with a piece of ice.

The third time he is a maker of motivational films and uses subliminal cuts to get a client to go to the lobby at a specific time so he can shoot him.

The shoes being tied wrong was Robert Conrad.  Yes, I have seen these episodes WAY too much.

#244 Re: Square Eyes » Robert Culp Dead at 79 » 01 Apr 10 :: 04:38

As to the Columbo record.  On the original show the record is 3 with Robert Culp and Jack Cassidy bothe playing the killer 3 times.  But if you add in all of the new episodes in the late 80s and the movies in the 90s, then the record was 4 with yes Patrick Macgoohan playing the killer 4 times (2 old series, one new series, one movie).  And yes I HAVE spent way too much time watching Columbo.

I think there is also a shot of the back of his head in the trailer.   I'm pretty sure it is him opening the door for his father.

Got to say the movie looks like it will be just like "Happiness"...Depressing.  And his haircut fits right into the tone of the movie.

The crazy part is the sequels and remakes of films that bombed.  White Chicks 2?

Here is a horrifying list.  Most of these should never be made, but they probably will:
