I was so tired earlier and now my second wind has kicked in and I am wide awake! Hate that!

#227 Re: Square Eyes » Misc Stuff » 30 Dec 12 :: 06:29

Les Miserables was soo good!  Hugh Jackman was truly amazing.  It took us a week to actually be able to see it - it's only playing in 2 theaters here in Dallas and any time we went the times were sold out.  That's a bit unusual these days.

Also saw Rust & Bones, Marion Cotillard was incredible, I never saw The Artist, but my parents actually preferred her performance in this than The Artist.  The story is amazing, the characters fascinating, but incredibly intense.  Some people had to leave to take a break, but definitely worth the watch if its your cup of tea:)

So I've been on a roll with movies wink  The next ones I want to see before I get movied out are Life of Pi and Silver Linings Playbook.  I hadn't realized how out of sinc I was with movies this year!   yikes just no time to go.

I love breaks to rest but after a while I start to get antsy for routine again, but I know in about a month I'll be complaining about how tired I am so I'm trying to take advantage of it!  big_smile It's a tough balance for someone who is a busy body like I am!

#229 Re: Square Eyes » Misc Stuff » 27 Dec 12 :: 17:36

I'll check out Premium Rush, love Joseph Gordon Levitt smile

I saw Guilt Trip last night, it was actually really good.  I don't know why it didn't get good reviews, Barbara Streisand and Seth Rogen were the perfect team.  Totally relatable for people that have dysfunctional family relationships! But still realistic too.

THAT IS AWESOME TEEJAY!!!  Yes indeed! Happy birthday Deb!  Hope you have an awesome day!

#231 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 24 Dec 12 :: 21:01

I agree, some movies are necessary to see in 3D - like Avatar, and the 3D Titanic was actually amazing.  But not necessary for every movie.  Gives me a headache & puts me in a bad mood; same response I get playing video games therefore I can't play video games!  lol

Happy holidays everyone!

Interestingly, I also rewatched the first two LOTR movies yesterday, in preparation of seeing The Hobbit again. Having now seen it in both 3D and 2D, I must say I liked the 2D version a lot better. I felt 3D took more away from the story than it added.

After LOTR, people tend to have very high expectations, and I think sometimes they forget The Hobbit is more of a children's book, thus the overall lighter tone of the movie. But I'd have to agree with you that I also liked LOTR better, probably because somehow it felt more grown-up.

I agree that the Hobbit is definitely more of a children's book and not as technical as LOTR. I remember my brothers reading it to me at a young age and watching the cartoon on pbs!  I think people actually like The Hobbit because the story is more simplistic in nature compared to LOTR.  I agree too that the 2D is just fine, the 3D is pretty and all but not necessary.

I like the idea behind it & the cast, but it looks a little too brazen for me!   wink I might catch it on dvd...

Mel - I really like 50/50 too - Seth Rogen really surprised me in that movie!

Super excited about this film smile  Great screen caps Teejay!

#235 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 22 Dec 12 :: 23:13

Thanks Mel...

Winter break is finally here.  I spent most of the day sleeping yesterday, end of semester fatigue.  But I did go  see 'The Hobbit' I enjoyed it but not as much as I did Lord of the Rings.  I was a little antsy and tired though, so if I get a chance to see it again I might just to see if being in a better mood will help.

Elinor woke me up early today to go outside so I put on my Lord of the Rings movies, it's unbelievable how good those movies are.  I have a deep connection with them for some odd reason, they were the first films I really enjoyed so much (like the way my brothers talk about seeing Star Wars for the first time in theaters! smile ) that's kind of how LOTR was for me!

I did see the Man of Steel preview and I cried!  big_smile Can't wait!

AWESOME! Can't wait to see it!  We have 2 more days until winter break  big_smile

Any tips to save money?  I am in a major financial bind.... Thankfully I found a place in Lakewood (a Dallas neighborhood) for about $400.00 less than what I'm paying now, so that will help come March.

Also, a friend passed last week, his funeral was today.  He won a plane ride at an auction over the city of Dallas.  It crashed just outside of Dallas, my friend and the pilot passed.  Fisher was married with two kids, always a nice guy.  Known him since elementary school, we were neighborhood friends.  Please keep his family and children in our thoughts and prayers.

Goood to hear Teejay!  Looking forward to seeing it!

It looks like I'm gonna have to move in February. I was really hoping that if I were to move it would be to another state and / or country, I just don't see that happening right now  roll oh well, I hate to leave, I love where I am now, I can just barely afford the rent as it is now.  Moving is the worst....

#239 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 14 Dec 12 :: 05:45

lol - should have known better...well that doesn't suprise me considering the source I heard it from.  My siblings are known to exaggerate. he he.

Cappugirl - I was stupid to try to go to the mall saturday for an errand.  after not being able to find a parking lot for 30minutes & all valets full I turned around.  It was a mad house.  Definately staying away.  I decided to skip church and go while everyone was at church.  That's the bible belt for you!  wink

This guy... I admire he dabbles into everything & is trying to find himself... sometimes crazy stuff but sometimes good stuff.  He's not a singer, but I like the idea of the music video.  It reminds me of home videos my father use to make.

That's great Mel! My sister & brother in law got me the extended dvd set of LOTR in blu ray a few years ago for Christmas.  I'm excited about the Hobbit too, although I heard thousands of animals died while making the movie  neutral

Good to hear about the job!  Busy is always a good thing!

Pup is finally sleepy after 3 hours of playing and 2 walks.  smile   I actually wanted her to stay awake.  She wakes up in the middle of the night; that wakes me up...we play... then she and I are both upset when we have to be up early to walk her before work!  tongue

#243 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 11 Dec 12 :: 05:55

sciences & math always got to me Mel - A's in everything else accept those, even the 'cop out' classes were still hard for me in those areas.  I'm just a humanities girl smile

Deb - awesome about the car!  your weekend did sound busy, hope you catch up on rest.  We have 10 days until winter break, and I AM READY!!!

#244 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 10 Dec 12 :: 05:11

it's amazing how fast weekends go by! Too fast!

#246 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 05 Dec 12 :: 05:41

sorry to hear about your family situation Mel.  Hope you can make amends in the future....

Still struggling with horrible allergies.  Now an upper chest infection I think. No longer congested, but heave bronchitis cough, my lungs hurt to cough and breathe in air; but at least I can breathe again & hear again!  wink   lol

#247 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 26 Nov 12 :: 04:21

Yes, I agree they do. Especially Monday.  wink Too bad I have no money!

Please think about us as we go back to work tomorrow.  It's been a great break.  I love my students to pieces but my work environment is not a healthy place to be.  Fretting about going back, but I know as soon as I see those kiddos things will be okay!

#248 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 25 Nov 12 :: 20:29

I spent too much on movies at Barnes & Nobles. sad  Going to be more frugal now... but there were some great deals!  Back to work tomorrow. Wish us luck....

Just watched Anton Yelchin in Like Crazy - on demand through netflix.   REALLY great.  Highly recommend, will definitely put him on the map if he wasn't already  wink  Especially Felicity Jones. AMAZING young actress.
