I like that!  So much has been said about his talent and genius.  It's nice to hear the personal side from the people who loved him.

I saw Donald Sutherland on an interview once.  Back in the early 70s he was offered the Hawkeye part, having played him in the Altman move.  He turned it down.  He said that many years later he met Alan Alda at an event and the first words out of his mouth were, "Mr. Sutherland, thank you for my career."  What a genuinely nice man he is!  I'm so glad that career has had such a nice renaissance the past few years.

I like that line about the new film being about repercussions, rather than events.  I think that was part of "Happiness"es trouble.  It lacked consequences.  And I'm glad it stands on its own.  When the sequel is so many years after the original, it really needs to.

I just realized that Jane Adams was in both "Happiness" and "Beautiful Children".  She needs to be in a few more "Father of the Bride 2"s to balance out her resume a little.

Henry Gibson, who first came to fame in the 60s on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In", has died.  He recently had recurring roles on "Boston Legal" and "King of the Hill".  He also appeared in the film "Magnolia".

I'm so slow!  Isn't the guy who played Ikey the guy who took Will hostage on JoA?  I KNEW I'd seen him before.

I hope they've unstacked it for you by now.

The network didn't leave them much choice I guess.  They had to wrap things up in a hurry.  If I remember they brought that Gavin guy in at the tail end of season 1.  (He was that guy who played Stu Collins on "Judging Amy", never did like him after he left Amy at the altar.  But thank God she didn't marry him. tongue ) And that was pretty soon after Sam had the really bad reaction from his peanut allergy.  It made me think they weren't sure the show would get picked up for the second season.  So they were gonna wrap it up leaving the audience with the idea at least that Sam was Nick's.  Then they did get picked up, so they brought in Professor Creepy. big_smile

Yay!  I thought it would go that way.  Hoped anyway.  Did Hannah not know, or something?  Why did she drag in that college professor or whatever he was?

Too bad!  Rooster is a hottie.  I never could understand how Lorelai could keep her hands off Kirk.

It was the commander, wasn't it? yikes lol

#461 Re: Chris On Screen » Life During Wartime (STRONG LANGUAGE - ADULT CONTENT) » 16 Sep 09 :: 20:08

Yeah, probably.  I do understand that this guy is trying to push our buttons, I get that.  It's just that in "Happiness" the children were there when a lot of those issues were being discussed.  And the Billy character said lines I didn't think he should've even heard.  Thankfully they didn't show scenes of children being victimized, but it was still pretty shocking stuff.

Aww!  I love that one, so sweet.  So, uuh...  Who's Sam's father? smile

Well, I'll say one thing for "An American Crime":  at least the abuse and perversion aren't played for laughs.

#465 Re: Square Eyes » Misc Stuff » 16 Sep 09 :: 17:33

sad "deal", I believe you meant. wink

I was sorry to hear that Maura Tierney had bowed out, but I think Helen Hunt is an excellent choice.  Haven't seen nearly enough of her since "Mad About You" went off the air.

Oh, no!  Well she whipped it before, maybe she'll be able to do it again.  I sure hope so.

I agree, Shell.  Despite his fame and success he seemed like a nice, down to earth guy.  My heart goes out to his loved ones.  Very sad day.

I don't think it's as heated as it sounds, Rick!:P  I'll bet your Lizzie is beautiful.  Is she a redhead?

Wait!  So you're saying she DIDN'T make that lion get into king drag and sit up on that throne?

Seriously, I didn't realize it wasn't a photograph.  She's pretty amazing!

I like 'em green, too.  They look so good with red hair.  Maybe cousin Steffie has green eyes, too?
