That was the fastest spring break ever.  50 more days until summer.  By the way, I happened to have really liked Jeff Who Lives at Home if that's your type of comedy! wink

Anybody check out this music video for 'The Shoes' a french band I believe stars Jake Gyllenhaal.  A little dark, but interesting, always a fan of Jake!  Amazing what he can accomplish even with no dialogue!

Sounds interesting Teejay, is it on netflix?  I'll take a look!

Any Jason Segel or Ed Helms fans out there?  I kind of want to see this movie, its gotten decent reviews so far.... it's rated highly for me on netflix but I can't decide if thats because I'm a fan of 'The Office' and 'How I met Your Mother.' lol

Awesome Mel!  I'll read it. I'm still working through 'The Passage,' by Justin Cronin, its also amazing, but just taking me a while to read.  I'm a slow reader and its about 700 pages!  but i highly recommend it - its a vampire/post apocalypse book.  Really amazing, quite a ride.

Just filed my taxes!  I hope I don't get randomly audited again this year, that was frustrating and kind of unwarranted to be honest!  I guess that's why its "random".

#459 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 11 Mar 12 :: 01:03

Glad to hear you had a good spring break with your kids!  We just started ours.  Still a little sick from my sinus infection.  However, I just watched Bourne Ultimatum for the first time and had such a fun time watching it I went back and rented the first two plus star trek. Hoping that will cure my upper respiratory infection.  I swear I'm keeping that video store in business.  Since I got this a week ago I've rented 8  movies total.  This junk just won't go away as fast as I want it to sad

lol Mel, I think a dog like a border collie would make a great president!  They are smart, hard working dogs!  Plus they'd be able to heard the crowds together! smile

Speaking of dogs! I did find one through my vet. A bichon/maltese mix, I'm picking him up next week.   smile

I gained a little bit of my voice back, but I had to call in one more day.  I didn't want to teach all day and then loose my voice again.  That's what happened monday.  I was feeling better and taught, and at the end of the day had no voice.

#461 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 08 Mar 12 :: 04:07

my sinus infection turned into an upper respiratory infection. sad tired of coughing, literally had no voice today, had to come home.  So close to spring break i was hoping to power through.  Hope this goes away fast! I had this junk for a month last year!!! I need to move to the driest place in the world.

I did watch Blue Valentine.  Your review is actually accurate Deb. There were some really disturbing scenes that I had to fastfoward through to be honest, but it didn't take away from the movie, so i'm wondering if they were even necessary or not.  But it was beautifully acted by Michelle and Ryan, music by Grizzly Bear is really great and suits the movie well, and directing is wonderful.  Just be prepared for the emotional ride as you said wink

What a beautiful note Matt Nesbeth said about Davey.  I especially liked the safe travels at the end of the note.   My spring break starts next week.  I'm hoping a spontaneous traveling opportunity arises somehow in the next week. I could use a vacation!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!  It was so cute to see kindergartners fix their hairs and everyone wearing bow ties at the end of the school day.

Thanks for the pictures Deb!!!  Hopefully we can get some new Chris photos soon if he gets some movies out!

#466 Re: Square Eyes » Misc Stuff » 02 Mar 12 :: 01:35

Did anyone ever watch Blue Valentine?  I love Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams so I put it on my netflix queue.  But everyone is saying even though wonderfully acted I shouldn't see it since its so violent and such a harsh romance. Do you agree?  Too uncomfortable to watch?

That is sad.  Jan Berenstain passed away too sad  Love her books.  As a child and as a teacher.

True.... they usually go for movies about real life, so I was expecting something like Moneyball or The Descendents to get it.

#469 Re: Off Topic Stuff » Randomness » 29 Feb 12 :: 05:19

Thank you.... I did alright. I feel like I did better last time, but you know I do my best!  wink Or at least I tell myself that!

#471 Re: Square Eyes » 2012 TV/Movie Award Season » 28 Feb 12 :: 05:15

Aww, went to bed early... sad  Long day today.

Here is the full list of  winners:
http://www.imdb.com/oscars/nominations/

I was kind of surprised and not surprised to see the artist won.  I was anticipating the descendants because I heard that was a better movie.  Do you think it got dibs because it was "silent" (different) and international?  My parents saw it and enjoyed it, I just couldn't help but think deep down that it kept getting such critical claim because it was silent.  I haven't seen it though so I guess I shouldn't judge a book by its cover.  Just saying, a little surprised it won straight through.

Interesting year for the movies, none of them were actually my favorite.  It think my favorite movies of the year were 'Take Shelter' and 'Drive.'  I also of course enjoyed 'Planet of the Apes.'

#472 Re: Square Eyes » 2012 TV/Movie Award Season » 27 Feb 12 :: 05:31

I loved Zach Galafanakis and Will Ferrell's intro on stage smile  Glad Man or a Muppet won.  That was a cute movie wink
And of course Christopher Plummer and Wood Allen winning best screen play.
Jonah Hill really could never beat Christopher Plummer.  Did you ever see The Last Station?  Amazing movie!

#473 Re: Square Eyes » 2012 TV/Movie Award Season » 27 Feb 12 :: 04:49

I agree it is sad about Whitney.
It's been quiet around here.  Hope everyone is doing alright.
I want it to be 10:00 Friday and not 10:00 Saturday.  Grr...
