Just thought I'd chime in and show where Alpha Dog sits on the Amazon.com sales chart.
This is what I posted on IMDB:
20.
Alpha Dog (Widescreen Edition)That is ahead of other releases, such as:
21.
Melrose Place - The Second Season22.
Happily N'ever After (Widescreen Edition)29.
What I Like About You - The Complete First Season30.
Alpha Dog (HD DVD and Standard DVD Combo)33.
The Hitcher (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD) (2007)36.
An Officer and a Gentleman (Special Collector's Edition)41.
The Hitcher (Full Screen Edition)44.
The Hitcher (Widescreen Edition)46.
Alpha Dog (Full Screen Edition)
It's nice to see it do so well
It's also nice to see that the Widescreen version is far outselling the Full Screen version too.
It's also nice to see it outsell The Hitcher as well, which I remember a certain person on IMDB said would do better then AD.
So far no reviews of the DVD yet that I could find.
GimmeKitty posted about this on the IMDB message board, here is my response.
Highly doubt that.
There are a couple of things to look at.
1. The front cover art is completely different than the U.S. DVD cover.
2. The phone number listed is not how phone numbers are done in the U.S.
3. There is no UPC# on the back cover.
4. The extras differ from the officially announced extras as found in the press release or on Universal's home video site.
5. This was found on http://www.cdcovers.cc/search/all/alpha-dog , where people can upload covers - even fake ones.My assumption is that this is either a fan created cover or a cover of a bootleg. Perhaps the extras listed on the back cover are there to get people to buy the DVD and of course they aren't even on the DVD at all. Likely all that would be on the DVD is the movie itself.
I agree that the extras listed seem a little to specific, but again someone could have just looked at the credits of the film and come up with them.
Still no DVD reviews yet, if I find any online I'll post them.
I found this at this site:
http://www.cdcovers.cc/search/all/alpha-dog
Now the question I have is, how in the world would the DVD have 2 audio commentaries and deleted scenes, or is that just bogus. I mean this is not the legit US cover art, but if someone created the DVD how would they have gotten hold of these extras.
It would really make me mad if such a DVD was available, even if it isn't legit. And all we get on the legit DVD is 2 extras.
Did that work?
Very slight difference between the one above and this one.
Strange they show up for me, let me try it again in a few.
Here is some posters (non U.S.)
I just thought I would show you guys that the Alpha Dog DVD is a popular title among users of DVD Profiler. It's a program for DVD Inventory.
The little star icon indicates "Popular" title among users of the program.

Hi there, lovely to see someone new post. Welcome! I haven't seen The Notebook, so I really can't be of any help. Deb?

Pretty easy, Justin Timberlake was going to play the character that Ryan played, but I recall that both Nick & Justin agreed that he wasn't right for the part. But Nick remembered him from that and cast him in AD.
Universal released their official press release for the DVD.
I think it's funny what they call the "Special Features"
KILLER BONUS FEATURES
The "Alpha Dog" DVD and HD DVD/DVD Combo disc include captivating exclusive features.
* A Cautionary Tale: The Making of "Alpha Dog" -- This exclusive documentary look takes viewers behind the scenes for an inside look at the making of the film. * Witness Timeline: Get detailed information on each witness as the shocking events unfold.
Exclusive to the HD DVD/DVD: U-Control Witness Timeline -- Access detailed information about each witness as the story's shocking events unfold, without interruption to the movie experience.
I also thought I would pass on this little bit of news about an Alpha Dog co-star.
Several sites are saying that Emile Hirsch is up for the role of "Speed Racer" in the big screen live-action version of the classic animation series.
No it's a better copy, the other one was really dark and looked like it was shot by someone with a camcorder.
Hey, I just found a real good quality copy on-line, so for those that haven't seen it yet, just follow the link.
I was wondering if anyone thought of starting a petition over at petitiononline.com?
Here is the link.
Thought I would tell you that someone posted the link to contact Universal on the JJB ezboard message board. They have over 31,000 members so hopefully some of them will help out.
Here is a copy of what I sent them.
Hello,
I am contacting you in regards to the lack of extras on the upcoming release of Alpha Dog.
All that is listed on your site is two extras, a making of featurette and a witness timeline.
The director and casting director posts on IMDB and has posted that they have many deleted scenes, a documentary that Heather Weinquist (SP?) made. I contacted the casting director of the film via IMDB and he said that you (Universal) never contacted them for any extras. He even mentioned that you didn't contact them for an audio commentary either.
Yet on the box office dud, Let's Go to Prison you have included an Unrated Edition of the film as well as deleted scenes, yet on Alpha Dog which made 3 times as much you only include two extras.
Why the lack of extras on Alpha Dog DVD?
The director has deleted scenes, a documentary made and maybe available to do an audio commentary and yet you don't want to include them on the DVD?
Fans of this film want more extras and are really upset about the lack of special features.
Don't be surprised if this doesn't sell well on DVD.
I sincerely hope that you either put more extras on the DVD or work with the director and release a "Special Edition" DVD in the near future.
Thanks for reading my letter.
Contact Universal via this link and tell them how you feel about the lack of extras on the DVD.

Here is the final list of special features (from davisdvd.com)

Witness Timeline feature
Trailer Gallery
I'm guessing that the trailer gallery is a bunch of movie trailers for other films.
By the way, still no answer back from Matt regarding a special edition dvd.
This sucks, but you know what - I'm still going to buy it. Heck I bought the bare bones dvd of Flags of our Fathers and that had no features at all.
Well, I sent Matt another PM and told him that I thought that sucked. I asked if Nick and him could pressure Universal into releasing a "Special Edition" of Alpha Dog sometime in the future as fans of the film really want to have these extras.
I am sure that they should have more influence than we would, but who knows. If we start a campaign to write to Universal and request it, they just may listen.
Finally got a response from Matt about the DVD extras.
Sadly it looks like bad news.

Seems that the U.S. theatrical run has come to an end.
According to boxofficemojo.com the closing date was February 22, 2007.
It made $15,242,450 in the U.S.
Non U.S. box office is still being added.

To sisterdebmac, still no response from Matt about the extras on the dvd. He's been on IMDB but hasn't read my PM to him yet. Perhaps you can send him a PM as well, maybe you'll have better luck in getting a response than I have.
I was just pointing out that the High Def dvds have more space for extras and I was trying to point out that 2 have just 2 extras seems like a waste of available disc space, especially on the high def dvd formats.
As for studios offering special editions later, well it seems like a standard routine for them to do that. I'll say that after buying DVDs since 1997 that I can't even tell you how many times I double dipped on the exact same movie due to a new "Special Edition" being released later on.
If that also happens with Alpha Dog then I'll buy the "Special Edition" as well. even though I'll own this release too.
