Another German movie poster I just stumbled across. The caption at the bottom says "deadly friendships".

At least they left the original poster and didn't put up something different, like they did it with JF. I hated that poster. Can I post it in the German section, too?

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

You're hopeless.  roll

By the time you two get around to watching the movie everyone will be sick of talking about it and you'll only have each other to talk to.  So be it.  You made your choice.  I'm tired of going round about it.

Can I at least get a copy that I can watch on TV?

Yeah, it's in the works. Will send you some stuff the coming week, including a TV-capable copy.

And Anne will have the DVD this week. She'll probably watch it right away. It's always gonna be that way that you'll get the movies months before we do (unless something goes straight to DVD or it's something huge that will open on the same day worldwide). We'll just have to live with it. I'm not gonna change my mind about the "big screen experience".

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Anne just said above that she won't watch it either.  You guys have no idea how frustrating it is sitting here with all this stuff I'm dying to talk about and can't.  And you wonder why I still punish myself with the IMDb boards.  But whatever.  Like I said I'm utterly fed up with this conversation.  Thanks for the copy.  At least SOMEONE will get some use out of it.

Didn't Anne say she'd watch it on a Tuesday when her parents are out? Knowing her, she'll watch the English DVD first and then the German version in the cinema in March. Right, Anne?

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

No, she said she COULD watch it on A Tuesday, but she'd rather wait and see it with Chibi.  Go back and read it again.  You guys are putting yourself through all of this nonsense for what amounts to about 10-12 minutes of total screen time.  Hope you think it's worth it in the end.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Well, I thought about both possibilities. It's just that I don't really have the money to go to Chibi's and watch both versions with her. I could watch the English one alone and then watch the German version with her when the movie's going to be shown in Saarbrücken. For both versions I'd need to stay overnight with her, I think and I don't have enough money to afford two weekend train tickets.
The other thing is, Tina, if you like, we could do it like we did it with American Gun, remember? But we don't have to. I can still watch it alone and ask you afterwards if I have problems to understand. Or I'll ask LEO. I just need to see how much I can understand. The old matter. roll
But yeah, it's sad that we'll have nobody to talk about the movie when we've seen it. I mean, of course we can still talk to each other about it, Tina. And no, Deb, I'm not putting myself through this for 10-12 minutes of total screen time. I wanna see the whole movie because it's an interesting story. I'd probably see it anyway, with or without Chris.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

If I'm watching the movie at Klaus' place (which I probably will), then we can't really do what we did with American Gun. But I appreciate the offer. Go and watch the movie when you want to, Anne. I don't mind you seeing it before I do. And, Deb, I wouldn't be doing this if I wasn't looking forward to the movie as a whole. If it was just Chris, I'd just watch the damn DVD right away. But, just like Anne, it's the whole movie that I wanna enjoy, including the 10 to 12 minutes of Chris's screen time.

And to make it more memorable, I want to see it on the big screen, the way it was intended to. That will make more impact if it's the first time I see it. I'm broken-recording here, so I'll shut up. Can we just accept that we all watch the movie when and how we want to? I know it sucks you can't talk to us about it, Deb. But it's been like that since November. What's another three weeks?

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

That's the problem.  IT HAS BEEN LIKE THIS SINCE NOVEMBER.  You guys are my co-webmasters.  We're supposed to be in this Chris project together, and I can't share this with you.  Not even when you have the ability to rectify the situation basically RIGHT NOW.  Why don't you see how painful that is?

And this movie is not some Harry Potter epic that needs to be seen on a big screen because it's chock full of amazing sights and sounds.  It's an intimate movie about a gang of kids who get in over their heads.  Believe me, the climax, the murder scene looks better on a small screen because it was shot in a soundstage with green screen and incredibly obvious on the big screen.  A lot of people have even said it looks so fake, it's distracting.    I didn't care because I'm used to low budget movies and I have a good imagination.

Look, I wouldn't say a word if this was Graduation or The Invisible and you had a chance to see them on the big screen.  They ARE going to be visual feasts with tons of Chris.  AD simply is not.  And I have been alone with it for far too long.  And I HATE having to go to IMDb for a fix.  You have no idea.

Looks good, thanks for posting.
That reminds me of something ... do you remember the old Alpha Dog poster I found last year? I'm actually happy that they didn't use that poster. It was weird. The poster they used instead looks a lot better.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Yeah, looks good. Still only those two extras listed. Wonder if we'll get deleted scenes with this release. It would really suck if they were gonna release another version with more extras at a later time because we will all be buying this first one, right? I'll still be buying the regular version, not the HD version. I don't have HD equipment, there would be no point. But it's cool that they are offering it for those who do.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

I don't have HD equipment either, just standard DVD player.
The standard DVD artwork should be very similar to the HD DVD artwork.

What I don't get is why are they offering it on High Def with the exact same extras as the standard dvd? I thought that with High Def dvds you had more space for extras due to the formats larger disc space as compared to standard dvd. So if anything the high def releases should have more extras than the standard dvd, not the same.

I just hope that either there are more extras to be announced or that we get a "special edition" a few months from now that includes the extras we wish for. Perhaps deleted scenes, audio commentary and that Heather documentary.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Wouldn't it be a little unfair to have more extras on the HD disc? I don't think that many people have HD equipment. All those with just standard DVD players wouldn't be able to look at the extras on the HD edition. I think it's a wise decision not to put more extras on the HD version.

I know one thing, though: If they release another DVD with more extras a few months later, I'm gonna sell my first one on eBay or something. I don't see a point in having two DVDs of the same movie, it being a Chris Marquette movie or not. I think it's a rip-off to release different DVD editions at different times. It would be fine to release them at the same time. Then at least you can decide whether you want to spend more or less money. But I guess that's the way the industry operates: Scour the most possible money from the consumers. I just hate having to fall victim to those ploys because I know I would want the later DVD with more extras, should there be one.

Agreed. That would be very unfair, I think. I still hope for more extras, too. I mean, that's the reason why you buy DVDs, right? I still hope for some deleted scenes and maybe some decent interviews or something.
And there's no way I'm going to buy both DVDs if there will be two versions. I'd rather sell the other one or wait until the better version comes out.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

I was just pointing out that the High Def dvds have more space for extras and I was trying to point out that 2 have just 2 extras seems like a waste of available disc space, especially on the high def dvd formats.

As for studios offering special editions later, well it seems like a standard routine for them to do that. I'll say that after buying DVDs since 1997 that I can't even tell you how many times I double dipped on the exact same movie due to a new "Special Edition" being released later on.

If that also happens with Alpha Dog then I'll buy the "Special Edition" as well. even though I'll own this release too.

I just wanna see the damn scene between Keith and Elvis on the hill.  If Universal refuses to give us that, after Nick told Chris it would be on there, they can get stuffed.

Oh, and I certainly agree with that. But then they should be putting more extras on both the HD and the normal version, space permitting.

I probably will too, but I find it a waste of money to buy two DVDs of the same movie. I've never done that and I will choose not to if I can just avoid it. Just like I don't usually buy DVDs over 15€. I will make exceptions for special movies, but the film industry rips people off enough already, I don't wanna feed that greed.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

I'm with you guys - it's really annoying when a special edition releases after you already own the original DVD. It's a marketing ploy that I've fallen victim to far too often. Sometimes I'm reluctant to buy certain DVDs because I know that a new edition will come along at one point. And if it's true that they're including more special features on HD DVDs, it seems as though that is another tactic to sucker people into purchasing new equipment.

I also hate it when there are little to no special features on a DVD, which, at this point, seems to be happening with Alpha Dog. I'm one to watch every single feature that a disc offers, just because I'm fascinated with all that happens on movie sets. I would love to see some of the scenes that were edited from AD, especially the one Deb mentioned. But with the number of sources that list only those two features, it looks like that's all we'll be getting. sad
