Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Larry has linked us on his movie blog.  Here's what he had to say about our site:

You've got one very cool site. I see hundreds of fansites and this one is at the top in professionalism and graphics. Well done! I'll add the link to my blog and homepage.

Have you seen the film yet? I'll be seeing it again on Monday.

Wow, that's great news, both about the UGA event and what Larry said. I'm really flattered now. Say thanks to Larry from me, will you? Okay, so I'll try to come up with a few questions for Nick over the next couple of days. Will you take Dave, Deb? Or anyone else?

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

I don't know if everyone realized, but Deb is going to go to the University of Georgia tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov 14) to watch the sneak preview of Alpha Dog and attend the Q&A with director Nick Cassavetes afterwards. Is there anything anyone would like to ask Nick? Now's your chance to come up with questions Deb could ask him. I already sent her some of mine. smile

Oh God, I suck at asking questions. Let me see if I can think of some.
I wonder if Nick knows that Chris has this "The Notebook's soooo gay" line in Just Friends. But it's not a very serious question. LOL

Hey, I've seen these new pictures in the gallery. Is there a new trailer out? Where can I see it?

No, the new pics are from the old trailer and the one clip with Justin. You know, the New Line trailer? I would have posted a link if there was a new trailer. You saw the old trailer, right?

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

NO SPOILERS

Guys, this movie is a knock-out punch to the face.  You are not going to believe it.  It sucks you in, makes you like the wrong guys and hate the wrong ones and then it just shakes you to your shoes.

Anton stole the movie.

Chris sports fake tats on his chest and gets to do some things he's never done before and some things he has that he excels at.  I think I know why Nick hired him for this now.  Can you say tear duct action?  Should we shorten that to TDA?  And I love him despite the wig.  He needs to be somewhat unattractive here.  I understand why they had to do something --- even make him look like a dirty hippie.  You'd like him too much if he was cute Chris.  And bad ultra-short hair just would not be Keith.  You'll see.  Chris is right, it works.

Justin was perfect.  Can't believe I'm saying that, but I mean it.

Emile was Emile.  And we love him for that.

I only have one complaint about the movie.  It ends kind of awkwardly, maybe a little abruptly.  Other than that, I was engrossed the whole time.  It's not a feel-good movie.  It is disturbing, mainly because it's so kind of  matter-of-fact.  But that's what makes it real.  Nick doesn't ask us to feel one way or another about any of these people.  He just shows them to us and lets us make up our own minds.

The nice 300-seat theatre inside the Tate Student Center at UGA was almost completely full.  About half of the crowd stayed for the Q&A.  Nick was mobbed by about 30 people afterward.  I got to him as fast as I could, but had to wait for a while.  He stayed and chatted with us for about 25 minutes before an assistant pulled him away.

Nick is veeeeery tall.  I would estimate about 6' 7".  No exaggeration.  He has tattoos on each side of his neck and both arms.  I really didn't expect that.

And now I know why he's the ultimate actor's director.  He talked about the way he casts.  He meets someone and if they can talk intelligently about their character and he likes them, they're in.  And then he lets them do their thing.  He says his job is not to tell them how to play something.  It's to help them, give them whatever they need, let them do their thing and just move the camera with them.  He just makes sure the actor understands who he's playing and then trusts them to do their jobs.

It was a long drive.  I should be in bed hours ago.  Gotta leave it at that for now.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Wow, that sounds awesome! Can't wait! I really hope that the Fanboys trip in February works out and that I'll still be able to catch the movie some time then. Otherwise I'll just have to wait for the German release or the DVD, whatever happens first (probably the DVD). I've said this before, even without Chris, I would have gone and watched the movie because it just looked like the kind of thing I might like. We get TDA in this movie from Chris? Wow. I kinda got the vibe from all the reviews and trailers before that this was gonna be more than a little bit disturbing. I'm sure it's gonna be intense. I'm really more and more curious now. And I'm sure I'll be able to get past the wig.

Can you try to put some coherent words together later on what Nick talked about during the Q&A after the movie? I know you won't be able to remember and rephrase everything, but maybe a few thoughts and replies stuck with you. I'd love to hear what he had to say and what others were interested in.

6'7", huh? (That's 1.98 m.) That's about the same size my colleague Jörg is. It *is* tall, all right. I actually know about the tats. Saw them on a photo on imdb, I think. But I'm not a huge tattoo fan. They can look cool, but I wouldn't want my skin etched with something that'll stay for the rest of my life.

Thanks for posting this so late at night. I myself am very mushy today. I'm about to go OTR, haven't slept long enough (less than six hours) and I just couldn't get my eyes to open and my body to wake up for over half an hour after I got up. Hope you feel a little better than I do today, Deb... But I'll live.

Yes!  I did.  And Anne, feel free to quiz me over email if there's anything you wanna know about the movie that I can't post because of TeeJay's spoilerphobia, OK?  wink

Spoilerophobia, huh? Yup, that's my condition. Why don't you open an AD spoiler thread? That way you can talk about anything and I'll stay away. Should Nick decide to stop by for some reason, that's where he might want to go.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

I might.  Later.

Hey Shrams,

Without spoiling anything, I don't think you have to worry about being turned off too much by his behavior in the movie.  He doesn't do anything really despicable.

Anne, for now, you can email me at work with any questions you might have.  I'd love to have someone to talk to about the movie.  I just can't string my thoughts together enough right now to write up anything for the site.  I'm pretty tired.  Shoot me an email.

Thanks, Deb!  I'm definitely planning on seeing it.  I agree a spoiler thread would be great.  I'm not sure if I'll read it or not, but I can sure understand the urge to talk about it if people do want to know stuff ahead of time.

Re: Alpha Dog (STRONG LANGUAGE & ADULT CONTENT)

Planned Swiss release date for Alpha Dog: April 06, 2007. That's a Friday. New movies are always on Thursdays in Germany... Let's hope it's not a bogus date, but I found it on two different websites. So for Germany it could be April 05.

That's not so bad at all. Now I just gotta pray to God that they'll show it without dubbing somewhere around here. Because I think April 2007 will be before the US DVD is out. So we'll get Chris in JF this year in December, Chris in AD in April next year and Chris in The Invisible in June next year. Cool. So by the end of the year when I tell people about Chris, they might not go "Who?" anymore. smile

That would be cool.  And it won't interfere with your possible trip to the US for Fanboys.
