i mean i dont really like it but its stuck in my head. umbrella by rihanna .. gah..
That's really funny because yesterday I've been telling Deb about that song. They're playing it on the radio all the time and I've grown to like it, so I asked my friend Anja to send me the MP3. "You can stand under my umbe-rella. Ella, ella, e, e, e."

That umbrella song does have a way of sticking around in your head, most annoyingly.

That song is so overplayed, lol. When I was in Pennsylvania, my cousins, who are two and five years old, were constantly singing it.

That song plays a lot on a radio station here and my friend has it as her ringtone so I hear that song all the time.
The G song haha

I HATE Atlanta radio. It's atrocious. Thank heavens my friend Elaine gave me XM for Christmas, 2005. I love commercial-free, theme radio. Here's my line-up
Fine Tuning - eclectic, anything from Bach to The Doors, totally, insanely random (favorite show: Hand Of Grandfather - American Indian and First Nations music)
Lucy - hit alternative rock 70's thru 90's
Deep Tracks - album rock of the 60's & 70's
Da Bone Yard - heavy metal baby
Fred - the history of alt rock 70's to present
Air America - progressive talk
Big Tracks - 70's & 80's arena rock hits
The Cafe - alt-roots-folk-emo
Top Tracks - hits of the 60's-80's
Ethel - modern and classic alt rock
All of the above --- with the exception of Air America --- are 100% commercial-free. And THAT is a beautiful thing.

Cool. I'll check it out. My favorite talk show is the Rachel Maddow Show. Also love Randi Rhodes, but I don't get to hear her since they moved her show to earlier in the day.

I think you guys have a LOT more radio stations than we do. I usually listen to the "youngest" regional station over here, called 1Live. We have different regional stations, like for northern Germany, western Germany (where I am), southern, and so on. Anne won't be able to listen to 1Live (except maybe online), she'll get all the southern stations. I think there's a few global German ones, but I don't really know what they're called. These regional stations are government funded (I think) and they only have commercials for a minute twice an hour. There's usually five stations for each region:
- the "young" station for the younger people with all the current chart music
- the "serious" station for those who wanna stay informed--there's usually a lot more talking than music on these, and the music is current stuff mixed with older stuff
- the "old" station for those who wanna listen to what we call "folk music". But it's this horrible, HORRIBLE music. It's like the commercialized version of folk music, it doesn't have anything to do with German history or heritage or anything. It just makes me wanna puke. I couldn't listen to that station for one minute.
- the classic station
- the "cultural" station, they barely have any music. There's usually a lot of talk about cultural or current political issues, sometimes they have audio books or dramatizations.
I used to listen to the British Forces service a lot years ago. They have a public radio stations for the British people still stationed here, but you can only receive it in the western and northern part of Germany. It's called BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service). 1Live really sucked for a while, all they woud play was this Oootz Oootz Oootz Oootz dance floor and techno crap. Can't stand that. So I listened to BFBS instead, and got English radio at the same time.
1Live has changed their repertoire and concept meanwhile, and I really like what they're doing now. My two favorite DJs now do the morning show together, and they always make me get up with a smile. If you listen to 1Live the whole day, you'll likely hear the same song at least three times, so that can get real annoying. But I only really listen to the radio in the morning before I get to work. It's my way to stay in touch with what's in the charts these days, since I never watch German TV anymore.
