I knew I'd heard his voice. I Hear the Bells is one of my favorites.

Yeah, that's a good song too. There's no official video for it though and the only fan created videos are like Veronica Mars and other shipper montages. I know Fort Hood has been used in a movie or TV show recently and it's driving me nuts that I can't remember where.

That was wonderful. Although this and the george Carlin discussion are trapping me in my childhood in the 70s.

I've been wallowing in it, Rick. Chiefly because Chris is starring in the Witch Mountain reboot. I mean, wow. Those movies meant so much to me as a kid.

I just found a link to a pretty cool website where you can download music for free. It's pretty much all unknown artists, most of the albums you can download are free and go under a Creative Commons license (meaning you can reuse it for podcasts and such). The URL is www.jamendo.com. You need to register before you can listen to stuff, though. And you won't find any of the stuff there that plays on the radio since they're all licensed artists who wouldn't publish under a CC license.

Sounds like a great site! I'll check it out. Thanks for posting about it, TJ.

I just logged into my iTunes account and on my recommended music section, there was a CD by Brooke Annibale. The thing that really got my interest about her was that I went to high school with a girl named Brooke Annibale and yeah... it's the same girl . She's still unsigned, but just seeing someone I used to know on iTunes blew my mind.
As soon as I get more than four dollars in my bank account, I'm totally buying her CDs. Her music is kind of a folksie rock thing, so if it's your kind of thing check her out... here's a couple videos of when she performed in Nashville last year.

Yay! I just got the first of two Mike Doughty CDs I ordered used from Amazon last weekend.
I got Haughty Melodic first, which is the correct chronological order. Ripping it to my work PC as we speak.

Good stuff. Uh Huh Her. Drops tomorrow. Features Leisha Hailey of The Murmers and The L Word. The video for the first single, Not A Love Song, is way cool. It's kinda techno, but it rocks hard. And it's dreamy somehow.

VH1 has been airing a lot of really great concert movies lately. The other day they showed "The Last Waltz", the final 1976 concert of The Band. I meant to just watch it for a few minutes, and ending up glued to the screen for nearly 3 hours. It was fantastic.

Oh, I love that movie. I have it on DVD. Been a fan of Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm and The Band for as long as I can remember. Robbie's one of my heroes. And Levon's a cutter. Pretty damn good actor, too. I just wish they'd end their stupid feud.

I'd seen the movie a LONG time ago, but this airing had what amounted to a commentary between Scorsese and Robbie Robertson that looked like it was done really recently. Great to see it again.

I had never really been a fan of the Band, until I saw The Last Waltz. I have been a fan ever since

Yes, it was done recently. For an anniversary edition of the movie. I've seen that too. It's wonderful.

Yay, Nickelback will have a new album out November 18, 2008! Can't wait!! New single will be out in September, I think. At least that's what they posted on their MySpace. I'm a little bummed because they played in Cologne yesterday (which is just 10 miles from here) and I wasn't able to make it. Hopefully I'll be at the next concert, they're one of the bands that I really wanna see live one day.

 I can't stand that electric stuff some call music... I can tolarate it for five minutes but then It gives me a headache.. Rap and heavy has pretty much the same effect.. I hate my response to them because I'd like to be able to say that I'm very open minded with all short of music... So sorry if I offended anyone...:embarrassed:
So if I had to put a lable on my taste in music, I'd say Classical rock and pop are the closest to my heart. Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, and such. Many of the 80's hits are my favorites. Even tough I like many kind of music (especially if it's just something to play on the background), I'm very picky about calling something my favorite. Lately I've been listening a lot of John Meyer and James Morrison. And my old favorites. Thanks for Simon for informing me that it was a new Take That song at the end of the Stardust. I loved that song. I do like a lot of bands but I totally just paced out and forgot all the names. I'm a bit tired today..
I wrote something about my taste in music in my blog too. http://nordiclighter.blogspot.com/2008/ … -life.html I'm not quite sure you should read it. Someone must have put some magic mushrooms or something in my food before I wrote that. It's not exactly my best blog post...

Mike Doughty is a god. Where's this guy been all my life? So insanely trippy and adorable. And one of those indelible, unique voices I always treasure. Nobody's made me smile so big and filled my eyes with tears of joy like this in... ages.
Just watch this...
I liked this one.
Leisha Hailey's song was good too. Had to add them to my playlist.
