The only thing I can think of is that sometimes, when scenes get cut, they never make a good clean master of them. So maybe they either lost that scene altogether, or the version they had was too poor in quality. I would also have liked to see the rest of the material surrounding the William Katt scene. They just drop us right into the middle of it so I still don't feel like I've seen that scene.
I have no idea how easter eggs work. But there used to be some good sites that you could check for them.
The commentary is pretty fun, really loosey goosey. They all talked over each other a few times though. And one of the times is when Kyle is trying to explain about the scene where Linus throws his pills away and Dan just won't shut up long enough for him to get it out. I love you, Dan, but dayum!
And see if you can figure out what the hell was meant by the comment "classic Marquette". I think it was either Kyle or Sam who said it, I can't remember. And I think it's in the scene with the Harry Knowlesalike.

Okay, I'll try to find out what they were talking about. But I won't be watching the commentary for another two weeks cause I wanna wait if I get to see the movie in the theater again in Denmark.
You usually get to easter eggs by hitting a string of keys at a defined point in time, like for instance in menu x hit the back key, the forward key and then the play button and then a hidden menu will come up that'll take you to a hidden feature. Or something like that. The trick is to find out what combo of keys to hit when. Since Fanboys has been out just for a day, I doubt it's gonna be in any easter egg databases yet.

You should go ahead and watch the commentary. You can't pay attention to the movie at all while you're doing it and they barely comment on what they're actually watching anyway.
Whoever says "classic Marquette" says it when he's talking really fast trying to get Harry to help them. Huh? To us, I think classic Marquette would be a scene where he goes from emotional to funny, or vice versa. I really wonder what those guys consider to be classic Marquette. Cuz fast-talking ain't his forte.

I saw the DVD and I am now wondering about scenes which were shot later and added. Are any of these in the final film and which scenes are they? There were a couple of scenes which felt out of place in the film, and I was wondering if they were the added scenes.

Yes, there are a handful of them. If you pay close attention, you will notice them by the fact that Chris is a few pounds heavier (most notably has a rounder face) and has longer hair and Dan has slightly shorter hair. I don't remember all of the scenes from the recut, but the two I know by heart that were added/replaced are a) the one with Harry Knowles and b) the scene in the Skywalker Ranch where the guys get caught and threaten to destroy all the original movie props.
How did you like the movie, Rick?

And the whole Danny McBride scene, duh.
We also think the scene where Eric & Linus have the argument about Luke & Leia kissing is from the reshoots.

I enjoyed the film alot. It was sweet and funny. The best comedy came the closer they were to their geekiness. All of the fan stuff (knowing small details about the movie, R2D2 sticking out of the back of the van, the star wars sounds that their car made, etc) The more traditional teen road movie stuff didn't work very well for me(the gay bar, the drug scene). And I loved the occasional subtle jokes about how Episode 1 sucked.
Chris's best scene for me was a small but lovely one. When he is watching the movie. The look on his face is great. It played when you are watching it the first time like he is just completely enjoying the experience. But then, when we learn later what was going on in his head(that he was thinking about his friends), it plays even better.
So, overall, I enjoyed it, (and what more can you want from a movie) and without the cancer story, it would have been pointless.

The drug scene had way more to it, according to the commentary. There was a lovely moment between Linus and The Chief where they talked about Linus's fate. But of course, TWC insisted it be cut and instead, they inserted that stupid crawl that said, You are very, very, very, very high. Yeah, soooooo funny, Harvey. Kyle hates both of the crawls, actually, but especially that one.
My favorite stuff in the film begins from the moment in the Danny McBride scene where he tells Linus that he --- and only he --- can watch the movie. From that amazed expression on, every drop of Chris onscreen is absolute perfection. And the scene at the camp site is the icing on the cake. That is "classic Marquette".
And I love Hutch. I think he's funny as hell and wonderfully cuddly.

Nawwww. As much as i agree that the idea of Fanboys 2 probably wouldnt work, i still wish it was a possibility. That would mean that they would be coming to AUSTRALIA!!! ahem, ok im fine now. It wouldnt have Linus/Chris anyway but it would still be cool. America gets to have all the fun

If they do it, he might at least get a cameo in an Obi-Wan after death kind of way. But he wouldn't necessarily have to shoot that in Oz, depending on how they used him of course. I just wouldn't get my hopes up because right now, it's nothing more than a pipe dream. I mean, sorry Kyle but who the hell is going to finance this?

Yeah i realise how unlikely this is of happening. Knowing my luck though it will probably be once i have worked out that i am going to visit the US on holidays that i find out they are filming in Oz. Come on, there isnt that much to get excited over Chris-wise in Australia. Everything is released after everywhere else, if at all. Its a sad sad existance...HA! I dont feel nearly that sorry for myself and a trip to the US is on the cards at some point soon. Just gotta find the time I'll come visit you Deb! Hehehe

Bring it on, Kate! We can have ourselves a ChrisFest. I've got tons of stuff, that's for sure.
Hey look, I certainly don't wanna burst your bubble. I just know how it pains me when we have a film announced and it gets squashed for whatever reason. It has happened with Revenge Of The Nerds, Calvin Marshall and Oliver Stone's Pinkville. And things are not looking very promising for Kid Cannabis at this point. That kind of thing almost makes me wish I just didn't know about these projects so far in advance. It hurts too much when they don't happen.

Also just curious has anyone else seen Freshman Orientation with Sam Huntington, it apparently is also called Home of Phobia. I saw it AGES ago but it was just done so cute. I really enjoyed it even though alot of it was a no-brainer. I thought it was played really well to not offend anybody as well. And i think thats hard when you are trying to make jokes about a straight man who people think is gay to not offend the gay communittee while still actually getting laughs

I saw it years ago and seeing Fanboys i recognised him straight away but couldnt place it. Good ole' IMDB, where would we be without it. And i remembered the movie. General gist of the story was that to get into a sorority one of the tasks was to date "unacceptable" guys, have them fall for you and then dump then at this dance thing. Anyway lead girl gets assigned a gay guy. So she goes out looking for a gay guy and Sam has already fallen for her so when she asks if he is into poetry and shopping, essentially trying to assess whether he is gay without actually asking him directly. Anyway cos he wants her he just agrees to it all and she thinks he is gay. And then etc. He finds out she thinks he is gay but keeps going along with it so he can spend more time with her. It was actually quite amusing. And i loved John Goodman playing the old queen that gives him hints on how to act gay. All of that and Sam is absolutely adorable in it going to the extremes just to spend more time with the girl. That kind of dedication just doesnt exist in real life.

Well, I'd watch it just for John Goodman then. Who played the girl?

The main girl i didnt recognise but her name is Kaitlin Doubleday (imdb) but the supporting cast of Marla Sokoloff as a radical lesbian protester and Heather Matarazzo as the Jewish sorority girl that chooses "arab" as her unacceptable date, were recognisable and well played. This is all from memory of a few years ago. But now i really wanna see it again. I think a visit to the video store is in order tonight. Don't get me wrong. This is very much a low intellect needed sorority type movie. But its done well in its genre

Fanboys 2? I kinda remember Kyle talking about it back in 2006, when we met him. It sounds unlikely that it's ever gonna get made. It might have been a possibility if Fanboys had been a big hit in theaters, but, like Deb said, who is gonna fund this? Plus, for me it wouldn't be the same without Chris, even if he'd have a "ghost" cameo.
