"Fanboys" Delayed To Film New Sequences
Posted by Sam on Tuesday, 29 May 2007 Written by: Michael Hickerson (SoSF Staff Journalist)Beyond the big summer blockbusters, one of the movies I was most looking forward to later this year was "Fanboys." The film, which is to be a comedy homage about four friends taking their dying friend to steal a print of "The Phantom Menance" from the Skywalker Ranch was slated to open in August 2007. Then the word came that the film was being delayed until January 18 next year.
So, why the delay for the movie?
At the recent "Star Wars" celebration weekend, director Kyle Newman said the film has been delayed to film some new scenes and do some more editing.
"There's a dream sequence that we're going to put in, which is new," Newman said. "And I'm rethinking the first, like, three minutes of the movie … so it's not all set in the one location. It's kind of, the information we're getting at the outset is spread over a couple of scenes. … It's a little less exposition, a little more comedic. … It's the Halloween party that we might be changing some parts of. … Opening it up just a little more."
"Fanboys" stars Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Dan Fogler, Jay Baruchel and Kristen Bell.
"We don't get the actors back until September," Newman said. "We were trying to get it done in April. And then we lost Jay Baruchel, … [who's] doing "Tropic Thunder." And Kristin's doing a movie ["Forgetting Sarah Marshall"] that Judd Apatow's producing in Hawaii. Sam's in the middle of writing a screenplay for Ben Stiller's company. Chris Marquette is off in Eastern Europe, starring in a big movie ["Infestation"]. And it's just, everyone's schedules, to get them back together, it's been difficult. So we missed our window in April, and now we can't get them until September."
The cast and crew unveiled a lot of never-before-seen footage of the film at the Celebration IV convention, which received a warm reception from "Star Wars" fans on Friday and Saturday.
Newman was philosophical about the winter opening date. "It's obviously less competitive, I think, than August," he said. "But I would have loved, … personally, as a fan, for the movie to be out in … sometime close to right now. I mean, now is like, it's the 30th anniversary of "Star Wars", and this is like … my gift back to the fans, all of ours. We love "Star Wars" I would have loved for it be there, but if it makes sense for their business model to release it in January, then I have to put faith in what they do, and go with it."

Right on, nice find!
Good to know that there will be several scenes in the works.
I came across something kinda cool. I'm on a German website(Far right):

Cool! That's you! It's an article about C4 in one of the more prestigious German papers (the FAZ). I'll read it and maybe attempt to translate it if you like.

This is awesome! MaraJade's recap of the 45-minute reel shown at C4 (reposted here with her permission):
C4: Fanboys To Get Sneak Peek At Fanboys

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw both the Friday and Saturday panels. The Friday panel showed the 45 minutes of footage. The Saturday panel showed less footage, but had a Q&A with the director, producers, writers, and four of the main stars. It was 45 minutes of nearly non-stop laughter.*************************************************************************
SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU DON'T MIND READING SPOILERS!!!!!
*************************************************************************
To the best of my recollection, the scenes they showed were (not necessarily in this order):
1) Opening of the movie at the Halloween Party in 1998. Linus and Hutch come into the room as Stormtroopers with Windows dressed as Vader. All the party guests stop to look at them with utter disgust on their faces, as if they are thinking to themselves "Star Wars geeks!" Linus brings up his childhood plan of breaking into Skywalker Ranch to steal a print of Episode 1. Zoe says, "Not this again." Hutch and Windows however want to talk about it again.
2)Eric and Linus have a confrontation out in the backyard. Windows and Hutch observe the confrontation from behind the fence. Linus and Eric were best friends when they were younger, but Eric turned his back on Linus and his other Star Wars friends sometime after High School. Linus expresses how upset he was that Eric seemed to turn his back on him. Eric responds by saying that he grew up, and suggested that they should too. Eric also said "Who cares about Star Wars, its just a movie." And Linus repeated twice, "I care!" It was a very emotional scene, and very well done, and sets the backstory for their relationship in the film. It does end on a comedic note however. Linus tricks Eric into arguing about why Luke and Leia kissed so much in the film. From the ferver in Eric's arguments, it becomes obvious that Eric still cares about Star Wars as much as he ever did.
3)Windows and hutch are playing video games in Hutche's "Carriage house." It is a running joke in the film, that everyone refers to Hutch as living in his parent's garage, and Hutch informs them its a "Carriage House." I believe they talk some more about their plans to break into Skywalker Ranch.
4) They are at the Comic Book store that Windows and Zoe work at. Hutch follows Zoe around the store as she is re-stocking the comics and tries the "you want to take your shirt off" jedi mind trick on her. Zoe tells him he should give it up, since he's been trying that line since the 8th grade. Eric walks in and shows the map/plans that they all created back in the 5th grade to break into Skywalker Ranch. Eric at this point is actually pushing the trip. He wants to do something to make up to Linus how poorly he has treated him the past couple of years. Eric is a nice guy, he just had trouble dealing with the fact that his best friend had cancer and was dying.
5) At the car dealership that Eric's dad owns, and that Eric and his brother Chas work at. They are filming a commercial for the car dealership and we see bikini clad models atop the cars. We are introduced to the character of Chas who proves himself to be a complete jerk. Eric's dad allows Eric to take a few days off, but tells him if he isn't back on Monday, that Chas will be put in charge of the dealership. Eric gets in the car with Hutch, Windows, and Linus.
6) The van breaks down and they end up at the camp of an Indian. The boys are seen around the campfire eating what Hutch says is some "Good guacamole." It is obvious by the weird reactions that the characters are having, that this is no ordinary guacamole. The Indian admits that it contains Payote, which is similar to marijuana. The gang begins to hallucinate. Hutch envisions an ewok humping Windows leg. Windows laughs like Salacious crumb etc.
7) The boys walk into a bar, that they didn't realize was a gay bar at first. They end up having to pay $100 for a glass of water or have to strip to Menudo instead. They choose to strip to Menudo.
8 ) (THE funniest scene they showed. You really had to be there.) The gang are back in their van and suddenly a police car flashes its lights and wants the boys to pull over. Eric suggests they do pull over, but Windows pulls out a bag of Payote and suggest perhaps they shouldn't pull over with a bag of Payote in the van. Linus says it is time to use the red button. Eric asks what the red button does, and Hutch responds by saying, "its Lightspeed kid." The red button is pushed, and inevitably in a Star Wars movie, the lightspeed doesn't work. "No lightspeed?" Like Han, Hutch gets upset and bangs on the dash and the lightspeed (AKA Nitrous) kicks in and you see a starfield go to Hyperspace out the front window of the van. Then you see an exterior shot of the van going down the road at over 100mph with blue flames behind. You then see in the distance a giant road sign recruiting for the Police Force. Hutch tries to avoid the road sign but can't and crashes through the center of the sign. The camera pans back to show that the shape the van left as it crashed through the road sign is Vader's helmet, and the two rear view lights of the van, are red lights where Vader's eyes would be. The sign now reads something about the Force, but I forget what... but it was funny. (Like I said, you had to be there. This scene had people falling out of their chairs.)
9)The boys are at a Star TREK statue taking the Star Trek tour in some small town, and hassling the trekkie tour guide as best as they can. One of the boys says that Captain Picard is gay, and the trekkie replies, "He's not gay, he's British," and adds that Han Solo is a B****. At this the boys go beserk. NO ONE CALLS HAN SOLO A B****! They start fighting with the trekkies, Eric gets the van and they jump in the van. Hutch reverses the van to smash into the Star Trek statue, and the trekkies chase them down the street.
10) The boys are in Los Vegas. William Shatner provides them with the plans to Skywalker Ranch. Hutch and windows meet two women they don't know are "escorts." Hutch's "you want to take your shirt off" line finally works on someone. Their pimp (Seth Rogen) arrives asking for payment. Hutch notices the Star Wars tattoos all over the pimp's arms and tries to weasle out of payment by telling the pimp how he and Windows are big Star Wars fans. The pimp doesn't fall for it though and Hutch ends up hitting him over the head so that he and Windows can escape. The pimp revives and chases Hutch and Windows through the casino. At this point, the trekkies come up and corner the boys and it seems like all hope is lost. Then the pimp arrives on the scene, and Hutch tells the pimp that the trekkies called Han Solo a B****. The pimp goes wild and single-handedly takes out the trekkies while the boys make their escape.
11) Linus wasn't feeling well during the trip and ended up in the hospital. The scene opens with him laying in bed wearing a hospital gown. Carrie Fisher is Linus' doctor. The boys and Zoe are told that he can't leave the hospital. Linus doesn't want to give up on his dream of breaking into Skywalker Ranch, so the boys get a wheelchair and are in the process of sneaking him out of the hospital when Dr. (Carrie Fisher) spots them. The doctor bends down to talk to Linus in the wheelchair, and Linus plants a big long kiss on the mouth of the doctor. Which I suppose was a dream of many a fanboy, to kiss Princess Leia. And Zoe and the boys leave the hospital.
12)(The OTHER FUNNIEST SCENE) The Van is parked at Skywalker Ranch. Zoe surveys the surroundings by looking through binoculars out the van's window. The four boys and Zoe are seen walking down the road toward the ranch with purpose. Inside the ranch they come across some doors that eerily look like "Blast doors" on the Death Star. They open the doors, which make the same sound as blast doors and open the same way, to reveal the Archive room at Skywalker Ranch. You see the costume of Darth Vader front and center, with R2-D2 and C-3PO nearby. This is the scene where their true love and fandom of Star Wars really shows. They carefully pick up a few favorite prop pieces on the shelves and comment on them. Zoe bends down and pretends to put the stolen plans into R2-D2. Windows walks over to the spell book from Willow... Hutch tries on Indiana Jones' Hat... etc. They are unaware that they are being watched by security on the security cams. Suddenly a blast door at the other end of the room opens and three security guards dressed like the security in the movie THX-1138 burst into the room. They take off their masks to reveal that one of the guards is Ray Park (Darth Maul.) One of the guards grabs Zoe. Zoe pleads for the boys to leave her and make their escape. Windows, being chivalrous, grabs the lightsaber out of the Darth Vader prop's hands and prepares to duel with the "Ray Park" security guard. Ray Park whips out some sticks and spins them around like Darth Maul, he does an amazing mid air flip, and Windows reconsiders whether he wants to fight this guy. Zoe, like Leia, decides to take care of her own rescue, and escapes from the guard by kicking him in a delicate area. The gang runs throughout skywalker ranch with the guards in pursuit. They come to the garbage chute, and decide that would be a good place to hide. They all jump into the garbage chute and land on trash bags with the Skywalker Ranch logo on them. Coincidently, the Skywalker Ranch garbage chute looks just like the one on the Death Star. They all talk about, "You don't think the walls are going to move in." It is obvious that the four boys are all thinking it. Suddenly a loud machine noise is heard, similar to the walls moving in. Hutch dives under the bags afraid (like Chewie), Eric clambors to get out, WIndows screams "WHY!" and Zoe shakes her head, and points to the air conditioner that just came on leaving the boys feeling very stupid.
13) The boys are shown in the van singing the Yub Nub song.
More goodies to follow.

Looked at all the pics (Sean's and MaraJade's) and also read the recap. Great stuff. And, boy, I think I'm gonna give up the Chris site and open a Kyle Newman site. He's just damn cute! (And taken...)
Now let me take a look at the YouTube video.
Sean, you already taught Jacen what he's supposed to do with his fingers when he's being photographed, didn't you? And what's with the face fuzz? That becoming something of a must-have these days? But, hey, I like it. On you, I mean. Not on Chris. (Not that I'd want you to share your face fuzz with Chris.... LOL)

WOW, that's hilarious!!! I love that! Looks like something official. Hope it ends up on the DVD. Wonder where it came from. Thanks so much for posting it.
IESB has a few C4 photos of the cast (sans Chris, of course): http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=co … &Itemid=99
You know what I wanna do? Send this one to Chris and say: "Hope to see you with these guys at Celebration Europe in July. Any word?"
This one's worth checking out too: http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=co … &Itemid=99
But if that wasn't enough for Newman, he is also currently developing a feature film biopic of legendary deejay and TV personality Robert Weston Smith known worldwide as Wolfman Jack. I can still hear the howl. No other information is known about the project with the exception of the hint that Kyle gives during our interview that some Fanboys may be appearing in the film.
Chris? Are you shooting another Kyle Newman film?
For fans that have been waiting for news of when an official trailer for Fanboys will hit the big screen, we've been told to expect a trailer in front of SuperBad on August 18th.
Yay!! Let's hope we'll also find it online by that time.
And here's a few rather bad but totally funny caps of Chris from the behind-the-scenes video:

Definitely! I'm trying to watch the Kyle and Sam interviews on IESB, but I can't get the darn Shockwave videos to load. Anyone else got the same problem? It's loading and loading, but all I get is a black screen and nothing happens, even if I wait a long time. It doesn't actually look like any data is being transmitted. I tried both with Firefox and IE. Wonder if I should e-mail Robert Sanchez about it.
PS: I want that gray hoodie with the yellow Fanboys writing in the front!!
I think collider.com has the whole press conference from C4: http://www.collider.com/entertainment/i … 502/tcid/1

Oh, I promise you that's official. They made that from Andrew's behind the scenes footage and it even says in there that it was made for the web, probably to coincide with C4. It's fantastic! I have a feeling that the DVD of this movie is going to be chock full of great stuff!
And maybe we'll all have it in our hot little hands in about August of 2008.
