Re: Fanboys

They don't wanna rush it out without some marketing either, I'm sure.  What would be the point?

Re: Fanboys

<sarcasm on>
Well, apparently they've been "officially" marketing it for years through the Weinstein-owned Fanbyos MySpace. Shouldn't that be enough?
<sarcasm off>

Of course you're right. Look what happened with The Invisible in Germany when they decided to move the release date to May 10 (instead of August 31) in April. There was no marketing to speak of in Germany and thus the movie went completely unnoticed and pretty much tanked. After all the hype they've created around Fanboys, you'd like to think they would at least want to give it a proper marketing campaign. Then again, it's the Weinsteins... I really don't know what to expect.

PS: The guy deleted his post on IMDb just now. I deleted my answer too. (Maybe I was too rude?) hmm

You didn't sound rude at all to me.  Maybe he just thought, yeah, she's right.  What was I thinking?

I finally got to listen to the podcast this morning.  After everything that's happened (and after they knocked him every chance they got) he had nothing negative to say.  A real class act!

Re: Fanboys

Exactly, Carol.  My friend Key on the Fanboys IMDb board were just discussing that yesterday.  He has been a perfect gentleman through all of it.  All of the other members of the original creative team are equally classy.  Isn't it wonderful when the good guys actually win?

Re: Fanboys

His name is Kieran.  People call him Key.  He got to correspond some with Kyle over MySpace too.  He saw the London screening and has been there defending the film all along.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. By the time this movie will come to the theaters (if at all) most people won't remember it, I guess. But I still think it'll be a great movie and I also can't wait to see it.

Re: Fanboys

Kyle said last week it would definitely come out this year. I know we've had official release dates before that all got pushed back, but this time I'm inclined to believe him.

Well, the year has another four months, so ...

When did he say that? In an email? Did I get it? I'll search Thunderbird for it.

Kyle was interviewed on last week's Forcecast (= TheForce.net podcast). Check our front page or this thread for the download link. I also posted a summary of what he said in this very thread. That's where he said it, not in an e-mail.

Re: Fanboys

Lo and behold, I log into MySpace today and I have a new friend request.  I wasn't too excited about it because lately all the requests I've gotten have been from random people just wanting to increase their friend list size.  Nah, I'm not game to those.  But today?  It was a request from the Fanboys official MySpace page!   yikes   How'd that happen??  How'd they know I was a Marquette fan??   lol

I'm guessing the creator(s) of the page was doing a random search for users who included Star Wars in their favorite movie list, and it was only coincidence it was also Chris movie.  I was delighted to get the request.   big_smile   Looked at the page of course and saw our boy.  I'm interested in seeing the movie myself whenever it comes out.

Re: Fanboys

Honestly, no I haven't.   :embarrassed:   But it's due to my slow internet connection.  I don't watch a lot of video files online because it either takes for ever for them to download or there's always interruptions (buffering....buffering....buffering).  But I'm familiar with the movie, mostly thanks to you guys.   wink   And yes, I'm definitely a Star Wars fan.  So I look forward to this.  I hope it ends up coming out this year, and not postponed AGAIN.

Re: Fanboys

I know how you feel about waiting for it. Harvey "Darth" Weinstein is the biggest person to thank for screwing up the real plot and version of the movie and totally butchering it. Since it looks like he finally gave up, hopefully the REAL version of Fanboys will be released soon.

Re: Fanboys

Was it really the official MySpace page, Lynnie? There's two of them out there, and one isn't all that official. There's www.myspace.com/fanboysmovie (the not so official one) and www.myspace.com/fanboysfilm, which is run by someone official. The first site really irks me because they stole one of my images and used it without permission. Even after contacting them, asking them to take it down, they still have it up there.

Re: Fanboys

Oy, it's the first.  *blushes*

The unofficial one has over 2,200 friends, and the official one has only 310?

Re: Fanboys

I thought it was the first. They seem to send out invitations randomly to lots of people. They have 22,000+ friends, not 2,200. And now we know why. The official one doesn't send out random invitations, that's why they "only" have 300+ members. But let me assure you that the numbers will rise. Maybe they won't reach 22,000, but who cares?

I could rant on and on about that first MySpace page. They're not receptive to comments in any form. Their page is a webdesigner's nightmare (it wasn't readable in Firefox for the longest time before they finally changed it) and for a while they even said that Fanboys was a "film by Stephen Brill" (instead of Kyle Newman), which is BS and offensive to Kyle. And then, on wikipedia, they claimed that their page was run by the Weinstein Company and is, in fact, the official page and the other one was just a fake. Yeah, right.

The image that they're using as a background in the field where you can contact them (with the Fanboys writing at the top and the characters' heads below) was stolen off the official page and used without permission. It was especially designed for the other Fanboys MySpace page. That's pretty impudent and, technically, theft of intellectual property. They have been asked to remove it but have chosen not to. I wish MySpace had admins that you could tell these things because I just think it's not right and I kinda hate the fact that so many people rely on that site for information. They're not terribly in tune with what's going on with the movie either.

This could be a fun cooperation if they were interested in what we had to say and what we actually know. But they're not and they're making that pretty clear. Yet, they're sending out invites by the hundreds. I don't really get it. Does quantity of friends somehow make a page more legit than another? Is that their line of thinking?

I kinda wish Ernie and Kyle would delete them from their friends, so that they can't advertise the fact anymore that Kyle and Ernie are supporting their site.

Re: Fanboys

When we know that Kyle is NOT supporting it and has asked us repeatedly if we know who's running the site and if we've ever had contact with them.  You gotta figure if the director of the film has no idea who's running a site about his movie, it ain't the studio.

Re: Fanboys

I am so excited about a possible release date!! Seth Rogen, Kristen Bell and Dan Fogler (not to mention the others of course) are so popular right now, it really would be great to capitalize on that, anything helps. I hope they promote the movie big time, especially with the animated SW out right now too. The timing might just be right at last!

Re: Fanboys

I think Kyle just finished editing the movie. He changed his Facebook status to "Kyle is done." Yay!! smile Now we just need a release date.

The movie's gonna screen at Comic Con on Thursday. Unfortunately, nothing has been made official yet, so I can't provide details. Let's hope we hear some reviews and see some candids of Kyle an the guys online later.
