Live Earth

It's Live Earth day today and I wanted to just quickly post something about it. I think it's a great opportunity and a great event (well, more than one event) to make people aware of what we're doing or not doing to save the planet we live on.

It's so easy to go on with your own life the way you normally do, without thinking about what you can do to help with this global endeavour. It starts with switching your electronic devices off when you don't use them (and I don't mean on Standby), with using energy-saving light bulbs where possible, with collecting your paper and glass trash and recycle it, with not taking the car when you could also walk or take the bus/train or do carpooling to work if you have colleagues who live nearby. Every one of us can do something if they want, and I think it's important to make people aware of it.

This is where you can find more information about what's going on and where you can catch all the concerts:

Re: Live Earth

I just don't like the Live Earth thing, for one, the "celebraties" are just jumping on the bandwagon because it's trendy to "care for the environment". If you think about all the power & resources that are used for these 100+ gigs, you gotta ask yourself, whose really helping the environment?

Re: Live Earth

Yeah, I guess you have a point there, Susanna. It may be that some of these guys are only jumping on the bandwagon, but I'm sure a few or maybe even the majority really believe in their cause. Or maybe that's naive of me to think that way. I still think it's great that people are speaking up and trying to raise the awareness about our environment that way. Because, let's face it, nothing much would change if they didn't. Not sure anything will change this way, but at least it's a comforting thought to me that this might shake something loose in some people around the world.

Re: Live Earth

I was flippin through channels and caught part of this. I saw Enrique Iglesias performing from Hamburg for a couple of songs, then I had to wait through 15 minutes of commercials and PSAs before another song was shown, then another 15 minutes of commercials to watch a quick higlight reel of performers in Shanghai, followed by more commercials
....that's when I decided to switch back to Arena Football. big_smile

Re: Live Earth

Oh well, that's TV business for you. You US people go crazy with the commericals anyway. How many commerical breaks in one episode of anything? Five? We usually have less but longer breaks. Which is just as annoying, I guess. That's why I consider myself lucky I can watch all my fave TV shows without any commercials.

Re: Live Earth

Yea, I understand the whole "need" for commercials, it's just annoying how it breaks the flow of a show. Thank goodness for DVDs! :dancing:
