Transformers

has anyone else seen it yet? I figured cause all the hype and aeverything I'd  go see it last night, and it was actually pretty good. The special effects were amazing.

Re: Transformers

Release date in Germany is August 2, so, no, haven't seen it yet. I have to admit that I saw the trailer and was mildly interested. But I'm not sure if I'm gonna see it when it's on. It'll also depend on whether it's gonna be shown in English, but I think there's a pretty good chance that it will be. If I'm gonna go see it, it'll probably mostly be the for the action part and the special effects.

Re: Transformers

Yeah, I saw it opening day. It was better than I expected it to be. I still can't stand Michael Bay, but the guy certainly knows how to blow stuff up.

Re: Transformers

I don't even know what that movie is about.

I so don't have a clue about recent movies ... I mean, I know that there is POTC 3 and Shrek 3, but I can't go watch them anyway, so I am kinda out of the loop now. sad

Re: Transformers

Don't you remember the Transformer toys? Those cars or other machines that you could transform into robots? I never had one, but of course all the boys had. The movie is about these "robots" who come to destroy the earth and mankind. Yeah, really original storyline, isn't it? I think the tagline goes: Some have come to defend us. Most have come to destroy us.

The effects looked spectacular in the trailer. I also liked what I saw of the cinematography. That alone almost makes me wanna see it. I'm sure it's good, kinda mindless entertainment, but I don't really expect it to be more than that. Am I wrong with that assessment?

Re: Transformers

no the storyline was lame I admit. I just thought the graphics were pretty amazing. However I dont like the camera work. THe robots have so many details that when they get into like fight scenes it gets confusing and all you see is a big mess of metal rolling about on the screen. It wasnt as good to me as everyone was saying it was. It was mildly funny. Dry humor for the most part.

Oh, I love dry humor. Give me dry humor over some silly, unambiguous, in-your-face comedy any day. big_smile

Re: Transformers

haha I guess it was just lame that robots were tring to be funny. Those parts were pretty pathetic. You could tell they were tying to be funny...but no one laughed.

Re: Transformers

I grew up playing with the Transformer toys(as well as Star Wars and GI Joe)...so it was mandatory that I go see it or else my nerd card would be revoked. big_smile
Overall I thought it was a good movie. It's definitely what they would call a "popcorn movie". You're right Tina- If you're looking for an answer to world hunger or some sort of higher enlightenment, then I can't recommend it. tongue Mindless entertainment? You better believe it! Nothing wrong with that every once in awhile.
You pretty much get what you would expect from a movie called Transformers. Explosions, big robots fighting, and some pretty cool special effects. There were definitely some cheesy moments. I didn't like how Prime had 'lips', I didn't like the breakdancing Autobot who was all, "yo yo yo!!", and a few other minor things. But I gotta tell ya, I'm not a big Shia Labeouf fan, only because I haven't had much exposure to him, but he did an awesome job. I gotta give him props for making at least one of the human characters interesting, even though he was playing your stereotypical nerdy teenager who gets a robot car and the hot girl.

Oh yeah, Sean, I would totally have to agree with that. That's why I'm gonna go watch Harry Potter tomorrow night, my work schedule allowing. That's why I've watched things like War Of The Worlds and Mission Impossible II. smile

My brothers didn't have those and I wasn't interested in boy toys. But I know them from commercials, I guess.
Okay, so that movie's not interesting for me. That means at least I can spend the money on another movie. wink I am thinking of going to see Shrek 3 with Elli. Let's see if she behaves. LOL

Deb, I'm gonna kidnap you and drag you to the movie with me. Just ignore the unmarked white van parked next to your vehicle tomorrow morning with the rope and duct tape in the passenger seat.

Re: Transformers

I tried, but holding a camera in one hand and dealing with a kicking, biting Deb was too much for me. I think next time I'll invest in a tripod.

Re: Transformers

There is an alternative. Find me a cute gearhead to drag along as my date and I promise to keep the biting to "only upon request".

Re: Transformers

I watched Transformers last night (on opening night, no less). And I can honestly say that it's been a while that a movie visually impressed me as much as this one did. The effects and the details were mind-blowing. I was in awe. Of course, generally as movies go, this was just an action-packed guy-flick. Not much to the story, really. But with movies like this, you don't go watch them for the story. Or if you do, you must be rather undemanding. wink

I mean, yes, there was a lot of mindless violence and blowing things up. Michael Bay, what can I say? And the glorifying of the US military was kinda annoying there in the end. If you don't mind lots of things exploding, this is just visually a really good treat.

And, Deb, I'd hate to say it, but, yeah, at certain angles Shia really looks a lot like Chris. Not the overall facial appearance, but the general build and expressions and maybe even some facial features (definitely not the eyebrows, though--LOL). Can't say anything bad about his acting, he was really quite good. I liked the girl too. Nice to see a fresh face. And, boy, am I looking forward to Infestation, or what? If the movie's gonna be only half as action-packed at this one, seeing Chris as our sweaty and mucky action-hero will still be worth spending two hours in a theater seat, watching bugs get blown to bits. tongue Even better if the movie's gonna be funny and witty, like I think it will be.

Also saw a trailer for The Bourne Ultimatum and Disturbia. They both look really interesting. If they show in OV, I'm gonna be there.
