It was bound to happen. This movie had to get it's own thread. It's just incredibly, endearingly, hysterically funny. So many jokes crammed into it that I'll have to see it 10 times to enjoy it all. Seth Rogen was my favorite thing in the movie, but also I just love the script as a whole. Everyone did a wonderful job. It was just too much fun. I can't wait for a DVD chock full of deleted scenes and bloopers. Wish there'd been more Kevin Corrigan and Martin Starr, but maybe there'll be more on the DVD.

Gah yeah, I loved it. Two hours worth of penis jokes? Okay in my book.
My mom said it was too crude. Which is giving both me and my brother reason to continuously quote lines from it in front of her face. Hehehe. She only went so I could get him in. I've been caught trying to bring him into R-rated movies too many times to even try anymore

Hee. Well, to be fair there were plenty of "poonwah" jokes too. I liked the way the whole thing fell together. It was evocative of so many movies that I love and yet wholly it's own. Nostalgic, but totally of it's time. Just so well done. The opening credit sequence and the first scenes were so cool, I just knew I was in for a real treat. And it never let up, all the way to the end.
Boop!

I agree. I was reminded of Fast Times at Ridgemont High, one of my all-time favorites, even though Superbad is quite original. I know I'll be watching this one for years. I had been anticipating this one since I read about it a year ago or so. I'm a big Michael Cera fan, and have been since Arrested Development, so when I found out that he was doing something with Rogen, I was ecstatic. I almost set myself up to be really disappointed with how excited I was to see it. But I knew within the first minute that I was going to love it.
What were your favorite scenes?

That first five or so minutes of the movie up till Michael comes out of the house still talking on the phone to Jonah right up to his car is just brilliant. That's best friends man. I can't remember seeing a movie that so got it right how co-dependent best friends can be with each other. The sequence in the liquor store was great. Anything Seth was in, totally priceless. I can't remember the last time I heard such relaxed, naturalistic dialog. You really feel like you're eavesdropping a lot of the time. The fantasy sequences were very funny.
Fogell was soooooo Bill, wasn't he? Man, I kept having flashbacks. Wondering if Martin took Chris under his wing and explained how to be a totally endearing geekicus.

Yeah, the dialogue and relationship between the characters was so realistic and natural. Most teen comedies are never able to pull that off.
McLovin was hilarious, and now that you mention it, very reminiscent of Bill Haverchuck. They couldn't have found a better kid for that role. Funny how it's the first thing he's ever done.
I loved when Evan sang These Eyes to the cokeheads, loved the Home Ec scene. I also thought the makeout scene between Evan and Becca was absolutely hilarious, I couldn't stop laughing at how well Michael could pull off that awkwardness. But really, the entire movie was just brilliant.
I watched lots of talk show interviews since I was so excited, and man, that's got to be a fun set to work on. They're all so naturally funny and down-to-earth. It'd be amazing if Chris worked his way into that crowd one day.

Well, he knows Seth now. It could happen.
Did they show the Walk Hard trailer at your screening? Paul Rudd in an uncredited cameo as John Lennon? WTF? How cool is that? Someone said on IMDb that Chris could be Paul's younger bro. He should play that in an Apatow movie!

'Superbad' Has Super Haul of $31 Million
Sunday August 19 12:59 PM ET
"Superbad" was super good at the box office, proving that a no-name cast could hold its own amid A-list summer blockbusters.
The teen comedy from Sony, the misadventures of two high school buddies trying to score booze, took in $31.2 million to debut as the weekend's No. 1 movie, according to studio estimates Sunday.
"Superbad" knocked off the previous weekend's top flick, New Line's "Rush Hour 3," which slipped to second place with $21.8 million, raising its total to $88.2 million.
The Warner Bros. sci-fi tale "The Invasion," starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig in an update of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," opened a weak No. 5 with $6 million.
"Superbad" maintains the pattern of producer Judd Apatow's earlier hits, "Knocked Up" and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," which he directed. Apatow and his collaborators, including "Knocked Up" star and "Superbad" co-writer and co-star Seth Rogen, have a knack for packaging crude, R-rated humor with clever, authentic dialogue far smarter than what's normally seen in summer comedies.
Shot on a modest $20 million budget, "Superbad" had a slightly better debut than "Knocked Up," which opened in June with $30.7 million and went on become a $100 million hit.
"I think a genuinely funny movie always has a shot at doing well, because so few movies are really funny," Apatow told The Associated Press as he headed to the "Knocked Up" premiere Sunday at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in Scotland.
"Superbad," co-written by Rogen and his high school best friend Evan Goldberg, stars Jonah Hill and Michael Cera as pals on a quest for alcohol to impress the foxy host of a party. Rogen co-stars as an inept cop who ends up carousing with the teens, while Christopher Mintz-Plasse proves a scene-stealer as Hill and Cera's super-geeky friend.
Though centering on high schoolers, "Superbad" drew in older crowds, with 40 percent of the audience over 30, said Rory Bruer, head of distribution for Sony.
"The Apatow comedy machine itself is a brand now, and it's a brand that has created movies that appeal to older audiences who now follow whatever he does, even in the teen genre, which is very unusual," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers.
Overall Hollywood revenues rose with the top 12 movies taking in $110.5 million, up 21 percent from the same weekend last year, when "Snakes on a Plane" opened at No. 1 with $15.2 million. Movie attendance is running 5 percent ahead of last summer's, according to Media By Numbers.
The Weinstein Co. release "The Last Legion," featuring Ben Kingsley in an action tale set in ancient Rome, tanked with just $2.6 million, finishing at No. 12.
In narrower release, MGM's comedy "Death at a Funeral," a tale of outrageous goings-on at a British patriarch's farewell, opened solidly with $1.3 million.
Warner Independent's "The 11th Hour," a global-crisis documentary on ecological issues co-written, co-produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, debuted well in four theaters with $56,000.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

Can somebody who has seen this movie please tell me how "big" David Krumholtz's role is exactly? It's still in the theaters here and I am currently thinking of watching it if he's in a couple of scenes.

He's barely in it. It's a great movie, but don't go see it for him.

I don't know. I would love to see DK on the big screen, but the storyline of the movie sounds to much like American Pie to me. Maybe I'll go if one of my friends want to go too. If not, I'll wait for the DVD and watch it English.

It's not like American Pie. But it really is NOT worth it to just go for DK. I'm telling you, I think he's in like one party scene for a minute and that's it.

Well, the German cinema pages tells that it's about some guys who want to lose their virginity before they go to college. To me that sounds like American Pie, sorry.

Everything sounds like American Pie when you put it on a superficial level like that. Think what you want. It's hardly worth arguing about.

Superbad is definitely one of those films where if you summarize it, it sounds like a stupid, overused and formulaic plotline. The movie really is very well written and enjoyable. It truly was one of my favorite films of the year. I'm sure I'm insanely biased because I happen to believe that Seth Rogen and Michael Cera are some funniest guys around right now, but everyone I suggested it to absolutely loved it.
Deb's right though. Krumholtz only has a couple of lines and maybe 90 seconds of screentime. He's great friends with Apatow & Co. though, so I'm sure we'll see him in more of those movies at some point. In fact, I think was originally a supporting character in Knocked Up, but had to be written out when another opportunity came his way.

Yeah, "Superbad" is SO not like "American Pie"- I actually think it's better and more witty.
The two-disc edition is great to add in your collection. I'm still unclear if Judd was really mad at Jonah or not (during the commentary). Besides that, Michael Cera is flippin' great and same applies to pretty much everyone else in the cast.. or "Apatow Crew," really.

Joan: "Wow. I always thought you'd hate me if I was a cheerleader."
Adam: "No way. Why?
Joan: "Because we're subdefectives and it'd be like deserting the army or something."
Adam: "Oh, no. I don't care if you're a cheerleader, subdefective, or whatever. I just like hanging out with you because.. you're Jane."

I wondered about that too. He did end up staying gone throughout the remainder of the commentary, so who knows. Jonah didn't seem at all bothered by the fact that he had seemingly pissed Judd off, hahaha.

He's Jonah, I figured much. I wanted to ask him anyway (if what happened was real) since I had another comment/question to ask, but I didn't want him to think that I was an idiot or something.. Kind of like those folks who actually thought Michael Cera was a prick when he tried out as Ben Stone in "Knocked Up"- c'mon, now! *shakeshead*.
