Movie Recommendations

Alright, so this probably doesn't need an entire new thread for this, but I suppose I'll just do it.

Deb left me a list of Chris movies to watch in my introduction, but I was wondering if anyone could give me good, firm recommendations on which ones I should watch. I can see now that he's been in a lot more movies than I originally thought (I was so shocked to see all the topics in this section), so any suggestions would be nice.

I'm not a huge fan of, ehhh, graphic violence, so I'll probably stear clear of Freddy vs. Jason (Tina called it crap on a stick, anyway), but are there any others I should decide not to watch because of that?

Heck, this can just be turned into a general recommendation thread if you guys want- a place for new Chris fans - like myself - to come and get a quick look at the movies that other fans say are a must watch.

Re: Movie Recommendations

A lot of the movies in his filmography are not out yet.  The list I gave you is everything that's currently out on DVD.

I would definitely recommend starting with American Gun.  His storyline is excellent.  It's a drama.  Not much real violence shown onscreen.  But the heart of the story is the effect of gun violence in three different settings.  In Chris's story, he's the brother of a kid who went Columbine three years before the movie takes place.  And the crux of his problem is that his mother does an interview about his brother's rampage on the three year anniversary, loses her job over it, and Chris's character is forced to leave his private school and attend the public school where his brother killed a bunch of kids.  I mean, you can imagine how he feels.  There's a sweet little budding romance in the story too, but it's very tragic.  You love angst, right?  This should be right up your alley.  TeeJay even wrote a fan fic continuation of Chris's storyline.

You'll also like The Girl Next Door, probably.  He's hilarious in it.  Truly classic.

Those would be my votes.  I love Alpha Dog too but it's not for everyone and he's not in it a whole bunch.  Great movie though.

Re: Movie Recommendations

American Gun would also be at the top for me, as well as Girl Next Door. Alpha Dog is, in my eyes, also a must-see, although I agree with Deb, it's not for everyone. There's real foul language all throughout the movie, and it is quite shocking. I loved it in its own way. It's a movie that makes you think. The bits with Chris are great, but the overall movie and the overall performances were amazing. Ben Foster, I bow to you. Justin was really good as well.

Freddy vs. Jason would be way at the bottom of my list. If you like comedy, I can also recommend Just Friends. It's kinda cute and funny and Chris is hilarious as the little brother. He doesn't have a huge amount of screentime, but he can be seen throughout the whole movie off and on. I don't love the actual movie that much (because I'm not into ditsy comedies), but Chris makes it well worth watching and real good fun.

Re: Movie Recommendations

American Gun and The Tic Code. That's what I would recommend first. But the other stuff is also great, of course.

Re: Movie Recommendations

The only reason I didn't STRONGLY recommend TTC is because I doubt if you'll ever find that for rent.

Re: Movie Recommendations

Alright- I'll give these a try once I get more money *is completely broke*. American Gun came on the other day, but I didn't have the channel. hmm I can probably catch The Girl Next Door on television sometime, and I saw Just Friends the other night (I totally didn't know his voice could go that high). I'll try and see Alpha-Dog, but I may not. It all depends on my mood and such. I can even try to find The Tic Code- I may start working at a video store soon, and then I can order things to buy.

Thanks, everyone! I feel embarrassed for asking...

Re: Movie Recommendations

There's two movies called American Gun.  The only one that's been on TV so far as I know is the one from 2002 that's got James Coburn in it.  Totally different movie.  I think IFC is the only channel that has ever shown OUR American Gun.  And I don't have that channel either.  sad

Listen, don't ever feel embarrassed to ask us anything!  We're only here to share the love.  smile

Re: Movie Recommendations

XP Ick, two movies? Okay, so I don't want the 2002 version. What version would I want?

Heh, yeah, I guess... I just feel like such a newbie here.

Re: Movie Recommendations

The 2005 version. Or 2006? It was shot in 2005, aired in 2006. It has Marcia Gay Harden, Linda Cardellini, Forest Whitaker, Tony Goldwyn and Donald Sutherland in it. Plus, next to Chris, Nikki Reed and Amanda Seyfried. Funnily enough, that makes two co-stars she would work with again or had worked with before. Amanda was in Alpha Dog, Marcia in The Invisible.

See the movie poster here: http://www.impawards.com/2006/american_gun.html
The DVD looks like this: http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/5 … AA240_.jpg

Re: Movie Recommendations

... Crap, yeah, that was the one that came on the other day. DX I'll have to check and see if it comes on another channel, maybe one I can actually watch this time.

Re: Movie Recommendations

Guess it all depends on whether you prefer comedy or drama. I couldn't even begin to categorize Alpha Dog. But it's definitely not comedy.

Re: Movie Recommendations

No, but Chris does get some big laughs in AD.  Hey, maybe we should post a tantalizing pic from each of these movies we're recommending so that Ashley could see what he looks like in them.  Might help her make a decision.  Let's start with Keith in AD and one of the big laughs...

Re: Movie Recommendations

You can watch the clip of this scene in the media section on the site.  It's HIGHlarious!

http://www.chris-marquette.com/media/vi … Boogie.wmv

And I don't know why I didn't think of this before but you can watch about 45 minutes of Chris's best stuff cut together by TeeJay on our Dorquette Demo Reel, here:

http://www.wormhole.de/cm_com/videos/Do … moReel.wmv

Didn't you say something about wanting to see him as a bad guy?  Well, the Huff clips would be great for that.  He was a total jerk on that show.  Menacing and weird as hell:

http://www.chris-marquette.com/content/ … dcaps.html  Scroll down till you see "Huff".

Re: Movie Recommendations

The first one killed me. xD Seriously, I was having a hard time not dying from laughter. I would've given in, but my mom's in the room with me and I think she'd be a little concerned if I started laughing randomly. I'll watch the "Huff" clips in a bit (AKA, once my parents aren't in seeing distance), as well as the Demo reel.

Oh, while I'm here, I was wondering if one of the admins could help me out with my password. Ever since I signed up, it won't let me change it. I try resetting it, but then the reset password won't go through either- I can't even log on without the link provided in the e-mail. X_X

TeeJay can help you, probably.  She's fast asleep right now since she's 7 hours ahead of you there in Illinois.  But she'll be on the board at some point tomorrow.  You can also always email her about stuff like that.  Just click on her name in any post.  smile

Re: Movie Recommendations

PS: I'm rewatching the stuff I recommended to you since it's kinda been a while.  So if you end up with any questions, fire away.  I'm sure TeeJay and I will more than one Chrisathon while she's here visiting.  Still really sad that he's not coming down for Dragon Con so we could see him again.  sad

Re: Movie Recommendations

Oh yeah, we have more than 1 GB of video clips with Chris and Sean on the site. We have all we could get our hands on and I made sure we have enough webspace to host it all.

Hm... about the password resetting, I can't really tell you much. How exactly can you not change it? Do you get an error message? Does the page not load? Might help if you could narrow down what's not working. What operating system are you on? What browser do you use?

Re: Movie Recommendations

Everything works like normal, except with the initial password entry, it always comes up as 'wrong username/password combination', even when I have copied/pasted the "reset password" and hand typed it several times. So, once I follow the link that says 'you can reset your password by going to...', it logs me in and I try to change it. I enter the new password, and it always comes up as 'wrong password'. I use Internet Explorer, but I go to many forums and I've never had this problem before.

Re: Movie Recommendations

Once you're logged in, have you tried to change your password in the "Profile" menu? Click on "Profile" up there in the navigation menu of the forum and then "Change password" below your user name. Or is that what you've tried to do all along? I can set you up another password if you like (and promise to forget it immediately). You better e-mail me about this in private.

Stupid question: Did you pay attention to upper/lower case? Because the passwords are case-sensitive, as far as I know. Then again, with copy and paste that shouldn't be an issue. So, which password do you now use to log in? The one that was initially sent to you by e-mail?
