Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

I didn't care for Kennedy either, but I did think there were a couple of cute moments, I have to admit.  And Spuffy was better in season 7 than 6.  Excluding the musical, of course, they were perfect in that.  And I loved them in Tabula Rasa, the ep that followed where everyone lost their memory because of a Wilow spell gone awry.  Spuffy was best in season 5, I think, when he was just realizing how he felt about her and became a full-blown Scooby.  When he cried in The Gift, the season- ender, it made me cry too.

Thanks for the tip, Illinois.  I really want those first three Buffy sets and Angel season three.  I'd like to have the whole series of that too, but season three was my favorite.  I want it really, really bad.  Laurel Holloman was so much fun as wannabe bad-ass slayer, Justine.  And Vincent Kartheiser really won me over as Connor.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

By the way, apparently Connor's fake mother (after Angel's deal) was played by the same woman who played Elizabeth Rove. And the actor who played Carl was in Buffy. smile

I'll admit Kennedy had her good moments but I think she's more likeable in the comics. I liked Connor but I never liked Cordelia/Connor.

Supposedly Best Buy is selling a DVD of the Buffy Reunion at Paley Fest, in case anyone's interested.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

Oh yeah, Cordie/Connor was probably the ickiest, most misguided paring I've ever seen on TV.  Didn't like season 4 much at all.  I'll have to check out that reunion thing.  Nice coincidence about Connor's fake mom being ER.  Was she in the ep where Connor goes to see Angel for help later when his powers start surfacing in his new life?

Yeah that was her. She was also in the one where Angel makes the deal and Angel stares in through the window at Connor in his new life (assuming I'm remembering the scene correctly). tongue

Yeah, I figured she was in the one where the deal was made, I just wasn't sure if she came back for the later ep.  I think I have both of them on tape.  I should dig them up.  Hee, Connor and Adam are "adoptive" brothers.  How weird is that?  wink

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

I don't remember the last seasons of Buffy too well. I haven't seen them as many times as the first ones. Buffy and Angel have been in Finnish TV for about ten years now. Back when it was still on, they had reruns playing when the show was on hiatus. And sometimes at the same time both new episodes and reruns. So after trying to keep up with what was new and what was a rerun, really ruined it for me. Got tired of joggling. After the show ended there's been Buffy and Angle reruns on just about all the time. I've been trying to keep up lately. They just ended the third season. I guess soon they'll start season 4 and propably Angel from the beginning too. Can't wait.

Um... I started this ramble when I was planning how to outline the fact that I don't remember much of Kennedy. lol Pretty much just the name and that she was a slayer. I kinda like her part in the fanfic Wolf's cry, tough. big_smile She has some weird alterial motive to help Oz get Willow back. It's such a good story.
Oz returns to Sunnydale after couple of years (it's a different Buffyverse; the town didn't collapse) because some seer said that there's a little girl that needs his help. He finds out that the girl is Willow's daughter with red hair and skills from witches and werewolfs. He thinks this other werewolf guy is the dad but then Willow confronts him and tells him he's the dad. And the story continues...
Very well wrtitten, you should all check it out. Not that I really ruined it for you now. What I just told you, I my self kinda quessed even before reading it all but I was still compelled to read the story anyway. So good. Check it out... http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4251335/1/A_Wolfs_Cry

Cool.  So who did David Grammer play?  I don't remember him at all and the pic didn't clear it up.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

It was just a blink and you'll miss it part in a Season 7 episode - Empty Places (as 'Crazy Citizen'). At the beginning where everyone is leaving town.

From transcript of the episode:

While Willow and Giles are talking to the officer, two other officers escort a crazy man into the police station.

CRAZY CITIZEN
(rambling to himself) A single step!

OFFICER 3
(to pedestrians) Stay on the sidewalk, folks.

CRAZY CITIZEN
A single step, and it is upon us. It is nigh! From beneath you it—

OFFICER 2
Freakin' nutcase.

The two officers take the crazy man inside the police station.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

I have all seasons of Buffy and Angel on DVD. I am on season 4? of Buffy and the first season of angel. I was trying to watch them back to back cause sometimes they had paraleel coincidences between the two show which was kind of neat. I find Angel pretty boring to be honest but from what I heard it gets much better. LOVED Oz!

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

The first season of Angel wasn't very thrilling, unless you're a big fan of The Mope, as my best friend called him.  It did get better in the second season.  I think from the time Wesley showed up and then when The Host (Lorne) came on, it really picked up steam and got fun.  The last few eps of S2 are a total hoot and brings us the character, Fred.  She started off too weird to really like, but became a fan favorite over the course of S3.  S3 was my favorite season.  S4 was just bizarre and kinda lame.  S5 had some great moments, but was very uneven.  I'd say I didn't really become a fan of Angel until S3.  From about midway through that season, I was hooked.

Two weeks from tonight, Alexis Denisof shows up on Private Practice.  Cool!  Haven't seen him in anything since Angel ended.  It'll be great to hear him speak with his real American accent.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

File this under despicable...

From AICN, yet another reason to hate Hollywood:

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER remake without Whedon or anything developed from the TV show... seriously...

Hey folks, Harry here and man do I have the scratchiest head scratcher that I've seen in a long goddamn time. I think just about all of us would be interested in a real theatrical launch of a feature version of the BUFFY character as was lovingly developed and handled by Joss Whedon.

But that's not what they're gonna do.

This new film is being developed with the original directing and producing team of the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER feature - which made all the impact of a shaving cream pie. It's being developed at Vertigo Entertainment, According to Borys Kit at The Hollywood Reporter which is run by the usually very astute Roy Lee and Doug Davison.

Now - apparently they're not ruling out Whedon coming aboard, but apparently they're taking meetings with a number of writers and Whedon would have to audition like everyone else. It seems Roy Lee is the one that has taken control here. And like I said, he's usually someone that I would trust - it just feels weird to announce before approaching Whedon first. Sort of like when McG and crew announced SPACED before talking with the real SPACED team.

I don't know if I would want to start slapping them every which way regarding continuity, etc... but without Whedon I know they'll instantly be met with a wall of fan hostility, that I doubt any other direction will calm.

What do you folks think?

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

Buffy the series was better than the film.

Much like how the Alien Nation series was better than the movie.

But if you're going to have the original director than what is the point?
Not only did the series improve upon the idea of the film, it expanded the world and had a much better cast than the movie did.
Now unless they have SMG in it, then perhaps but otherwise it seems like a bloodless attempt to try and reboot the film series.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

Sounds like a soulless reboot to me.  They'll bring in another brand new 16-year-old chick to play her.  I just don't see the point.  It could be a political game to get Joss aboard cheaply when what they really want to do is a movie with the TV cast, but I doubt it.  I bet we see a lot of this kind of crap now that Star Trek has been successful.

After all, we're getting three TV reboots this coming season with V, Parenthood and another one I can't remember right now.  And wasn't it smart to remake Cupid after it was a dismal failure the first time around?  I think the people who run things in Hollywood are just plain lazy.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

Last I heard Whedon was against any kind of Buffy movie that had Buffy as a main character. Plus he's super busy with the comics, Dollhouse, and everything else he's doing.

I'm really falling down on the side of 'nay' on this idea. There's already been two Buffys. Isn't that enough for the world? Sorry, I just needed to rant a little. tongue

They could always try something new, but that seems to be a taboo thing nowadays.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

I don't really count the original movie.  It was just not what Joss wanted and it's almost unwatchably silly after 7 years of a kick-ass series, and Angel to boot.  I am wholeheartedly against it in every way, unless Joss is involved.  He's the only one who could figure out how to get a great movie out of it.

I do have a sinking feeling that Dollhouse is not going to survive though.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

Agreed on the original movie. Sarah Michelle Gellar is Buffy for me, after 7 years of watching her expel pretty much every known emotion to the screen and I can't imagine Buffy without Joss.

Yeah, I was surprised that Fox renewed it. I'm not expecting to last (but hoping it will).
