Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

But the original Buffy was basically done as a comedy it was so over the top and silly. Joss turned it into a tv show that took itself more seriously in the way of action. Thats the way people relate to Buffy now. Noone thinks of Buffy as a comedy, even though the show has its comedic moments. I swear some people just dont think these things through....

Aw, gee, what a surprise.  Buffy fans are upset about the idea of a completely soulless, cynical reboot without Joss.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

HAHAHA!!!  OMG!  OMG!  Have any of you Angel fans seen Amy Acker and VK's screentests?  They are the funniest things ever.  They way they're written reveals little of the storylines they'll be involved in, but tests all the colors they'll have to play.  And they're so Whedon and so perfectly absurd and playful.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

I'm watching the New Years Slay marathon on Logo. Right now, Go Fish is on.  One of the silliest eps ever. But for TeeJay, Wentworth Miller is the main guest star. He was so young, but still very Wentworth.  You might dig seeing it if you're bored sometime...

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

I wish it was on at 7 PM instead of 6.  They ran 2 yesterday, Hush and Doomed.  I got home early and saw most of both.  But today, they only ran one, Once More With Feeling, the great musical.  I saw the last 10 minutes and now I wanna watch Tabula Rasa...

yup, all good ones. I love Tabula Rasa.  Do you have DVR or tivo? you could record them.  I sometimes do that even with re-runs.  I find them comforting to watch when things get busy!

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

I have Seasons 1-6 on DVD.  I just enjoy watching them on TV because I know others are watching too.  I'm weird like that.  I feel the same way with the JoA repeats.

That's so true deb. I do that with friends. I have faught and faught on whether to just buy the dvds. I got one season and I find that I watch it more on tv than on DVD! There is just something different about that.  Some shows are better on DVD though.

I want the  Buffy collector's edition. I have all the Angel stuff.  I miss Giles.  One time I had a customer come in with that last name and it took everything in my bones not to respond to him with laughter or in a british accesnt! big_smile

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

I bought Buffy 4-6, and copied 1-3 off Casey's DVDs.  Don't really care to have 7, though I will watch (some of) it on TV if it comes around.  I recently copied Angel S3 and the first disc of S4 from DVDs I Netflixed.  I just had to have the eps with Laurel Holloman as Justine, the slayer wannabe who worked with Holtz.  I loved that whole storyline.  But the prices (even used) are still too high.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

Yea they are high.  I got all seasons of Angel for close to $100 off of ebay.  Lucky for me they were in good condition. The Holz line is a good one.

Why not Buffy season 7?  There were some great episodes in that one.  Converseations with Dead People comes to mind and I love Storyteller (I think that's the name of the episode) where Tome Lenke's character (forgot his name) is narrating what's happening to the camera. :D Plus Nathan fillion! hehe...

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

I only liked a few eps of S7 eps...

Same Time, Same Place
Showtime
The Killer in Me
Lies My Parents Told Me
Dirty Girls

I was one of those people who was crushed by Tara's murder and what they did to Wiliow.  So I mostly only like the S7 eps that are about Will.  And I loved that Faith showed up in Sunnydale after her little return to Angel (which was AWESOME).  But I hated the storyline of The First, found the Potentials kinda boring, and I really hated Caleb.  Nathan Fillion has yet to win me over, but I haven't seen much of him.  I was actually really put off by Conversations With Dead People because I know the backstory behind it.  Cassie was only created after they couldn't work it out with Amber Benson to bring Tara back.  She didn't want the hardcore Wilow & Tara fans to have to endure Joss's sick joke of having Tara encourage Willow to kill herself.

I just don't really care much about seeing that season so I don't really need the DVDs.

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

I understand Deb.  I remember hearing the dvd commentary on Tara and how Amber Benson didn't want to come back for her fans sake.  I thought Cassie did a reasonable job though.  Did you know Amber Benson is an author and has two or three books out?  A new one to be released next month.  Looks like they are along the same theme of Buffy. Titles are Death's Daughter and the new release one is called Cat's Claw.  She has a page on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Amber-Benson/e/B0 … =sr_tc_2_0

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

Yes, she actually started out writing Buffy comics about Willow & Tara.  Then she co-created an animated web series about Victorian ghost hunters that was a lot of fun.  She's also written and directed a couple of movies.  I'll have to check out the books.  I feel myself getting sucked right back into the Buffyverse now that I've done my Angel marathon and I'm watching Buffy on Logo every evening.  I actually went to the Sidewalk Film Festival in Amber's hometown of Birmingham, AL back in 2002 to see her debut film, Chance.  There was such a huge Buffy contingent there, particularly Kittens (W/T 'shippers) that her film ended up winning the Audience Choice Award.  But the movie really is hysterically funny and wildly entertaining.  James Marsters and Andy Hallett are in it, so is Nick Brendan's wife, Tressa Delfiglio.  I got meet Amber and get a signed poster.  It was a blast!

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

That does sound like a blast. I've always wanted to go to those type of conventions but don't have anyone nerdy enough to go with me.  THey are having another Buffy reunion in LA this year in November, next fall.  I want to go, but hopefully I won't be able to go (I want a full time teaching job next year)! lol  Sounds like fun though.

I'll have to check out Amber's other stuff.  I'd personally like to see a solo album, I don't know if she already has that in the works though.  I was watching 'Hush' last night.  ITs amazing how much Tara changes from Hush to later seasons.

I'm always trapped in Whedon verse whether it be Angel, Firefly, Buffy or now Dollhouse.  Seems I can't get enough of it!

Re: Welcome to the Whedonverse (Buffy/Angel/Etc Appreciation)

I've never been to a Buffy con, but a lot of my friends went to Toronto Trek in '02 because half the cast was there.  And they had a convention called the Moonlight Festival in New York that they all went to.  Sidewalk was an actual Film Festival, like a mini-Sundance.  It was great.

I always loved how 'Hush' got Joss an emmy even though there is no dialogue in half the episode.  That is one of my favorite ones!

I think he only got a nomination, not a win, but it was still pretty awesome.  He should've WON for the musical.  No question.

I wanted to because I love Eliza of course.  But with everything that happened with it, I knew it was doomed before it started.  So I figured I'd just stay away and not get my heart broken again when it got cancelled.

A friend of mine introduced me to Vampire Diaries a few weeks ago, so I'm busy watching this show right now. Wait, that's not true ... I finished yesterday and am now waiting for the hiatus to end. Meanwhile I watch some old stuff / new stuff I haven't seen yet from other shows.

That show is shot right here in my area.  I've passed by their Base Camp a bunch of times, at a church in Sandy Springs.  I tried watching it a few times looking for places I knew, but the show itself doesn't turn me on, sadly.  I really wanted to like it.

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. The first few episodes I wasn't sure if I liked it. But then I noticed I wanted to know what happened next. LOL They shoot the show near you? Wow, cool.
