Into The Wild

Did anyone see this movie? It only came to Germany now and I watched it last night. Easily the best movie I've seen in the past few months. Very moving, very impressive. And very tragic. Emile Hirsch did an outstanding job. And, boy, how many pounds did he lose for that last part in the movie? He looked horrible! (Which he had to to make it realistic.)

I cried multiple times during the movie. I even still cried in the car on the way home when I reflected on some things. It's rare that a movie gets into my psyche this much. And I believe it's gonna stay with me for a while.

Also, the landscape was stunning. Wow. Just overall a real gem among the jungle of movies.

My only complaint is that they showed it with German subtitles, which I always find a bit distracting. However, there was a group of hearing impaired people there. And I had never really considered this when I was complaining about subtitles. Here in Germany it's rare they they show movies in theaters with subtitles, but at this one theater in Cologne they do frequently. So I guess this is one of the few places where the hearing impaired can go to watch movies in the theater. I won't complain this much anymore and just learn to ignore the subtitles for the benefit of others.

Re: Into The Wild

Nope haven't seen it yet, but the DVD gets released on Tuesday.

I don't know if I'll buy it as the 2 disc set has a SRP of $34.99, which means an in store price of around $25 or so.

But it got good reviews. I even understand that he does a nude scene in the film. Which I'm sure some here likes to see.

I am going to watch this movie soon. A few days ago I was tempted to buy the book, I found it in a bookstore.

See TeeJay?  I told you not to jump to the conclusion that the movie was not for you.  I haven't seen it yet, but I know I'm going to love it when I do.  I'm glad you went.

LOL. I must admit that I was never an Emile fan. He did a wonderful job on this movie. But I'm not crazy about him (please don't tell Abbie, Deb). Yes, he has a nude scene. He floats by stark naked down the river on his back for maybe five seconds and from far away. Not all that droolworthy if you ask me. wink

Aw, that makes me want to watch it even more. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I'm not an Emile fan at all, but I also loved Into the Wild. It was the first time he really impressed me as an actor. And the film was really well done.

I still want to read the book by Jon Krakauer. I think it's floating around my house somewhere.

Indeed. Sean Penn did a great job. I also loved the cinematography. All the elements came together great. Oh, and Deb? It starts off in Atlanta. smile I believe they filmed at Emory (popular filming location, huh?) and you can also see a bit of the city's skyline. It felt very familiar.

Yeah, you better. I might buy the DVD some time too. Like, when it's below 15 EUR.

Re: Into The Wild

i heard a lot about this movie. i am curious to see it myself. and i really enjoyed all i have seen of emile's work so far.

as for subtitles. do you see all the movie dubbed in german???:o like you never hear the real voice of the actors???
somehow i think subtitles are better because you get to appreciate the whole work of that actor. i mean even if it is a movie in japanease, that i completely don't understand one word of it, i think that actor worked a lot for a certain accent or a certain way of speaking. the only movie i saw dubbed in romanian was ratatouille and i felt so strange. i kept thinking : this mouse is not supposed to talk in romanian :embarrassed:
do you all see the movies dubbed in your countries???

ps : sorry for the off-topic. at this point, taking into consideration what silly movies are running in the cinemas in my town, i would love any kind of translation for a good movie.

TeeJay loathes dubbed movies.  She mostly won't go unless it's OV.  She'll tell you...

LOL. Damn right. I've ranted and raved about it in different places. Yes, in Germany most everything is shown dubbed. Your average German does not know the original voice of any given actor because all they hear is the German dubbing voice. Both in the theater and on TV.

Like Deb said, I hate the dubbing. There's a two cinemas here who regularly show movies without dubbing. But only a select few movies, and often not the ones I wanna see. I have to see a movie really bad if I spend money on seeing it dubbed into German. Which basically never happens, I'd rather wait for the DVD. I didn't go and see The Invisible in theaters because it was only shown dubbed. And that says a lot!

I was talking about not liking subtitles because the theater I like best shows almost all OV movies in English without subtitles. The one in Cologne sometimes does OV with subtitles and I always find that distracting.

Re: Into The Wild

oh, i understand now tee-jay.

i finally saw " into the wild ". wow!!! i started watching the movie with some preconceived ideas about it and somehow wondering if i was going to like it. the movie blew all my ideas out the window.
tee-jay i have almost the same feelings about the movie as you and i also cried lots of times. and i did not cried because of the tragic ending . i cries because the movie made me think about myself, about my relationship with other and with life and sometimes i cried because it was beautiful.
indeed it's rare to see such a delicate, emotional, wonderfully filmed movie.
i just saw it like some hours ago and i still feel like going on and on about it. i already tried to tell the story to my mom and i realized i was killing the movie and it's a must to make her actually seeing the movie.
i feel like gathering my friends and make them watch the movie , but i don't want to push them so they don't dislike the movie because i talk to much about it.:embarrassed:  i tried to make some people watch alpha dog and i didn't have much luck.
i must improve my persuasion technique tongue

I thought it was really good... just very graphic.  I feel bad for Emile, that role must have exhausted him.

Oh right, you did. I just checked. Sorry, I totally forgot. LOL

My next project is that new movie with Jack Black and Mos Def, "Be Kind Rewind". I saw the trailer when we watched Juno. It looks funny. big_smile

I want to see Be Kind Rewind as well, Anne. It didn't stay in theatres long where I live though and it got really bad reviews. I still want to see it though because it looks funny and Jack Black is awesome!

Re: Into The Wild

It's in the theaters here now. But it's not showing at the English one, that sucks, so I have to catch the German version. But I'll rent it on DVD to see the English version, too.
