Sydney Pollack died of cancer this afternoon at 73.

One of my favorites, may he rest in peace.

I didn't even know he was sick, so this is shocking to me.

Really too bad that they released such a lousy anniversary edition of Tootsie, now he won't be available to do any extras for a better edition. Stupid studio. Can't take for granted that anyone will be around in the future, so get them to do dvd extras asap.

I was surprised, too, Illinoisguy. But I think he kept working until very recently. He had an Executive Producer credit on HBO's "Recount", which premiered only 2 nights ago.

I know what you mean about DVD extras. I love my Special Edition DVD of "To Kill a Mockingbird", which thankfully was made just while Gregory Peck was still available for the extras.
