Re: Just Friends

Apparently there's an Easter Egg (= hidden feature) on the DVD. It's not that exciting as it doesn't involve Chris, but still:

From the Main Menu, select 'Special Features.' Move down and highlight the "Jamie Smiles" music video. Hit RIGHT which will present a musical note under the 'Special Features' heart. Hit ENTER to see a hidden clip of Jamie on the sound stage.

Re: Just Friends

Yeah, that's my favorite thing on the whole DVD.  I used the avatar you're using for a loooong time.  It's so damn cute in that.  Did you see the wallpaper TeeJay made from it?

Re: Just Friends

This is weird. When the movie showed in German theaters, it was renamed to "Wild X-mas" (obviously since it opened in December here). Now they've released it on DVD in Germany, and the movie changed titles again: "Just Friends - No Sex". Uh..... okay. Am I the only one who thinks it's stupid to rename a movie for theatrical release and then rename it again to almost the same as the original US title for the DVD release? Who's gonna find the movie on DVD who maybe liked in theaters and would like to buy it and looks for "Wild X-mas"? :clueless:

But I guess anything with the word "sex" in it sells better than a movie that's about x-mas (when it really isn't)...

(Looks like it has the same special features as the US DVD, btw.)

Re: Just Friends

Weird. They shouldn't be allowed to have that as an alternate title...

Re: Just Friends

Maybe they only called it Wild X-mas because it came out in December?  I think it's more ridiculous that they would think you Germans needed the explanation "No Sex" after "Just Friends", as if you couldn't figure out what just friends means, or do you guys not use that expression?

Re: Just Friends

Yeah, we say that as well. But, see, not everyone speaks English well enough to really get the meaning at first sight. It's not like you read it and immediately know what it's supposed to say about the movie, it's not the same as if the title was in your native language.

I guess there's also some deeper explanation here around the word "friend". Because I've learned that apparently the German definition of "friend" is a little different from the definition of "friend" in other countries. Not fundamentally, of course, but what we call a friend would in the US probably be a good friend. We wouldn't call someone a friend who we only knew from work and don't spend time with recreationally. Do you call Joe a friend, Deb? I don't think in Germany I would call him a friend if I was in your position, even though I know you adore him dearly. Over here a friend is someone we would confide our dark secrets in. Someone whom we like greatly but don't consider a friend is either a colleague or an acquaintance. So by the German definition, Chris to me would actually be an acquaintance rather than a friend. smile

Re: Just Friends

Yes, Joe is my friend.  I've confided many things to him.  It's not unusual to develop strong bonds with people you're "in the trenches" with.  Chris is not my friend, no.  I wish I could say that he is, but he's not.  However, I do consider all you guys my friends.  And some of you do know a lot of my deepest secrets.  wink

Re: Just Friends

I never understood why they even renamed the movie in Germany. I thought the translation of "Just Friends" - which would be "Nur Freunde" - was pretty accurate. But maybe someone thought this title was a little too serious for a comedy, and so they added the "no sex". Which makes it only more stupid. At least I think so. roll

Re: Just Friends

I'm pretty sure they added the word "sex" because they think it sells better. It's all about money--and don't we know it.

Re: Just Friends

Yeah, that's what I think too. But if they want to "sell" this movie, why did they add the "no"? LOL lol

Re: Just Friends

Teehee...

The hardest role for the filmmakers to cast was that of Mike, Chris Brander's bratty younger brother. "We searched high and low for the right actor to play Mike," says director Roger Kumble. "Christopher Marquette fit the bill. His relationship with his brother was identical to that of Chris and Mike in the film. What's funny is that it's so relatable."

Responds Christopher Marquette, "Mike is a wiseass, a jerk-off little brother. The best part about playing him is that he only cares about himself. The challenge is creating an entire world where, in every scene, all I have to do is try to make the funniest decisions that just come from myself. He's one of those guys that'll never grow up. He'll be sixty years old and still slapping his older brother. It's like a typical relationship between brothers."

Sean's bigger than Chris now, so is Eric.  I bet both the younger boys could take him.

Re: Just Friends

I noticed a Just Friends commercial during Mind of Mencia this week, so I looked up what that was all about.
