Paul Newman, the legendary actor whose steely blue eyes, good-humored charm and advocacy of worthy causes made him one of the most renowned figures in American arts, has died of cancer at his home in Westport, Connecticut. He was 83.
He died Friday, according to spokeswoman Marni Tomljanovic.

I didn't even know that he did supply a voice for Cars.
He was great in The Sting.
I only own two of his movies on dvd. Cars and The Towering Inferno. Also own Color of Money on LD.
For some reason never got around to buy his other movies. Would like to own Butch Cassidy, The Verdict, Absence of Malice, Cool Hand Luke, Torn Curtain, Hud & The Hustler.
I think everyone knew this was coming because all of the pics of him looking thin, frail & weak and in a wheel-chair. But it's still sad news.

Aww, I loved Paul Newman. He's one of the last movie stars from the 50s & 60s. He was a wonderful actor.
All your choices are great ones, Illinoisguy. Also "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" would also be a good one to have.

I love Harry & Son. He was wonderful in it and being a big fan of Robby Benson since I was a kid, it was a hoot seeing them work together. Joanne was in it too. And a very young Ellen Barkin. If you've never seen it, check it out sometime.

Cool, let me know what you think if you see it. A bit of trivia for you... Paul's wife, Joanne Woodward lived for a short time in Marietta, GA, where I live. She went to Sprayberry High School for a while, the school my stepsister, Susan graduated from.
And just for more useless trivia, I went to Allgood Elementary School, same as comedian, Brett Butler. It's just a few miles from Sprayberry.

Letterman had a really nice tribute this past Monday. I thought it captured the man's humor better than most of the tributes I saw and heard. He'll be missed.

Wish I'd seen that on Letterman. Carol, if you find a link somewhere, can you post it?

I didn't try look for it because I was sitting at the computer at 1 AM Pacific after driving for a bout 9 hours. I figured you knew exactly where to look as opposed to me using my one last live brain cell to try. I'm still barely conscious. Is that a problem? :clueless:
