For me it really depends.
Last year I only went to Walmart to buy some of those cheap dvds for myself. That was it for BF. I just go to one store (if at all) and quickly get what I want and go back home.
I never go to the mall. I've seen the footage on TV and it's just crazy.
A few years ago I was going to go to Best Buy. The line was just crazy, way out the door (and that was a good 30 minutes after they opened). I saw the line outside and just went home.
I just can't stand how crazy, rude people are on that day. Plus the crowds.:o:angry::angry:
What about you guys? Just one place, several, a entire day event or just stay home and enjoy a day off?

Sorry, can't join this discussion. We don't have Thanksgiving in Germany (at least not the way you do), thus we don't have Black Friday. But if we did, I know I would stay as far away from any shops as I could. I'm not good with large crowds, especially not when they all want the same thing I do.

I don't even leave the house on Black Friday if I can help it.

I've always stayed home on Black Friday, but it looks like I may have to work that day this year. Yuck!

That sounds like a day I'd prefer to stay at home, too.
I hugged the Seeker!

I didn't even know there was such thing as Black friday. Sounds pretty much like the kind of day, I'd stay far far away from any stores. I hate growds and standingin lines. I actually get dizzy if I have to stand in one place for long, especially in lines and growds. Might be something to do with me having a low blood pressure. Or air getting thin... Or it's just the stress of it all. I've always hated shopping....

This is my first year where I am doing direct deposit. I have to wait till Friday to be able to get any money out (hopefully).
I was looking at the ads and if I was going to go anywhere, it would probably be Walmart to be some of those $2 dvds. Also perhaps some of the $10 2 packs.
But Amazon.com just started their BF sale and I just may do the bulk of my shopping on there.

I don't do good with crowds either so I usually don't participate.

Went to 3 places today.
Walmart:
Bought some dvds (which you can see which ones I bought it the other thread).
Also bought one of those $8.00 jackets for myself.
Meijer:
DVDs (see other thread)
Menards
2 $5.00 pullovers
Menards was by far the most crowded, which surprised me.
Walmart was fairly crowded as well, especially around the electronics dept. People were waiting there for something and I didn't catch what it was but all of a sudden people were literally pushing to get something someone just put out. I think it was that guitar for the videogame.
I may go out tomorrow to Meijer for some of their $10 tv seasons.

Another good reason not to go shopping on Black Friday.

I worked a 5:45 AM to 3 PM shift today at Kmart. No fights or deaths to report but people were still rude and we were extremely busy all day. Man am I glad to be home.

Yeah, I'll bet. How long you been at Kmart?

Since June, so it was my first Black Friday there. It was the normal problems - sales prices not showing up on the registers, customers misreading signs, and all the other slightly annoying things - only at a faster pace and with people who obviously didn't get enough sleep the night before.

LOL! Yeah, I hear that. Just wondered. One of my closest friends used to work for Kmart Corporate up there in Michigan. It's been pretty rough for her since they were sold to Sears and the Troy office was shut down.

Well because of that there are those wonderful Sears card questions (Would you like this on your Sears card today? Do you have a Sears card? Would you like to apply for a Sears card?). I only ask the first one because otherwise I'd go completely crazy and today would have been a complete nightmare. Anyways, I wasn't employed when Sears took over, but I'm sure it wasn't that good of a thing. Some customers have told me that their interest rates on their Sears card skyrocketed during that change but who knows if that's true? Not saying it isn't possible, it's just that sometimes you don't know the whole story.
Sorry to hear about hard times for your friend. That's just awful.

Yeah, a little bit less than two more years and she would've been able to earn a pension. She had a really hard time finding another job since things are so bad in Michigan these days. And frighteningly, she just started working for a company that supplies plastic to the auto industry. Who knows how long that one will last?

Just a little correction.
Kmart bought Sears, not Sears bought Kmart.

On paper, that may be true, Illinois. But it ended up with Sears expanding into Kmart stores, Kmart stores closing left & right, and the Kmart Corporate office in Troy, MI closing down. Thousands of Kmart employees were laid off. I don't think that happened to Sears. So in this merger, Sears & Chicago won, Kmart & Troy lost. Big time. Trust me, I heard it all from Elaine as it was going down. She was with Kmart for 33 years before she was laid off too.

You have to remember that Kmart went through Bankruptcy before they bought Sears. So that's likely why Kmart stores closed up & thus Kmart employees being laid off.
That's also why little to no Sears stores closed up. They didn't go through BC and didn't have to close up stores, whereas Kmart did to eliminate debt and restructure.

Isn't it just horrible the Wal-Mart worker that got trampled to death opening the doors? I couldn't believe it.

That was sickening. Didn't another person who was injured die subsequently? I thought I heard the tail-end of a story about that on the radio...
