The Invisible

I'm going through some of Chris's unreleased movies on IMDb, checking the threads if there's any inside info. Two people posted that they saw this movie at a film festival and that it was really good. Yeah, so when can we see it??

Someone posted the release date January 26, 2007. Wow, that would be two days after my birthday, and four days after Anne's. Not that we could see it that soon, but that's something. Right? (If it's true.)

Re: The Invisible

There's a release date for Germany on imdb. It says June 21 2007. I still don't get it. The movie was shot between Sept. 30 and Dec 2 2005. So why does it take more than a whole year to bring it to the theaters? I may not have a clue about film business, but I think it's just stupid. I don't want to wait for another year for the movie. Or even longer for the DVD, because I'm not going to watch Chris talking German.
They also put a movie poster on imdb. Nothing     spectacular though.

Re: The Invisible

Anne, this is totally normal for indie movies.  See, the problem is that just because you've made a movie does not mean it's EVER going to be released in the theatres.  After production and post-production, indies then have to go to market and find a distributor.  That's what the Cannes, Sundance, Telluride, Toronto and Tribeca Film Festivals are all about.  If no one "buys" the film at any of those fests, it then goes to shows like MIFED.  If no one buys it at MIFED, you can bet it's going directly to DVD.  Most of the time, indies do not have distribution in place before they start filming.  That's just the way it is.

I know it sucks, but there is absolutely no way around it.  Our only hope for our sanity is that next year, Calvin and Fanboys and Alpha Dog (talk about a long shelf-life!) are released and hit big.  Then, Chris's star will rise and he can get out of the indie game for a while and make some big studio movies that we won't have to wait so bleedin' long for.

Keep all your fingers and toes crossed!

What's MIFED, please? I'm sorry but like I said, I'm German and I don't have a clue about American movie business.

Re: The Invisible

MIFED is the Internation Film Market.  They have what amounts to a big trade show every year.  You can take a look at their website here: http://www.mifed.com/default_e.asp

Basically, what happens at MIFED is that companies buy films for the International markets.  The annual MIFED issue of Variety is one of my favorite things to read because in it, you learn about tons of movies you've maybe never even heard of.  And once they're bought for the overseas markets, they're usually distributed here too.

Calvin does not have a distribution deal in place yet.  Could be iffy.  Let's hope it does well in the next round of festivals.  AD does, with Universal --- it's only held up because of the trial.  We don't have any worries about Fanboys because the Weinsteins already have it set up with MGM.

Re: The Invisible

From Ain't It Cool News:

Just got back from a test screening of David Goyer's follow up to Blade Trinity, THE INVISIBLE. Some spoilers follow.

Film concerns Nick, a soon to be high school graduate (Justin Chatwin from WAR OF THE WORLDS) who is your typical dreamy/angsty writer who wants to get away from his overbearing mother (Marcia Gay Harden, finally cashing in her "Oscar Winning Actress Does A Schlocky Genre Movie" card) and get out of town. Props for making his would be destination somewhere other than New York for once (London, to be exact), but really he is sort of a stock character in that regard.

His best friend is played by the always annoying Chris Marquette
, who is mixed up with the local bad kids. The main bad kid is a girl named Annie (relative newcomer Margarita Levieva, who is sort of a more tomboyish Shiri Appleby), who comes from a broken home. One night she goes "too far" (steals jewelry) and her boyfriend, a parolee who works in a chop shop, rats her out. A series of coincidences lead her to believe it was Nick, and she roughs him up, accidentally knocking him out. Assuming he's dead, her and her friends dump his body in a sewer.

Re: The Invisible

That's the AICN fanboys for you.  They hate everybody and everything that they don't personally deem cool.  They'll change their tune after Fanboys the movie, I bet.  They'll become slavishly devoted to him.  LOL!

Re: The Invisible

Oh God, I'm so tired I'm almost beyond caring. Maybe I should watch this tomorrow morning when I'm all fresh and energized. Because right now I'm somehow so not in the mood. Thanks for the SMS though, Anne. Very much appreciated. smile

And indeed a late birthday present: January 26. Though it will not affect me personally in January, unless I'm miraculously on a business trip to the US then. Which isn't entirely impossible but highly unlikely. Still nice, though. Anne, can you post this in the News section on the website? Thanks.

I'll indeed watch the trailer tomorrow. Chris is not worthy being watched in a state of near unconsciousness. He deserves my full attention, and he doesn't have that right now.

Cool!  Can't wait to get home now.  I have my computer here with me today because we're trying to make it so I can remote in, but I have no way to hook it up to the Internet right now.  :-(

So how's the hair?

Re: The Invisible

The one on My Space is clear enough to get a good look at Chris.  He looks like kinda between James and Linus.  Short hair, but not as skinny as James and not as beefy as Linus.  In other words, he looks pretty damn good, in my opinion.  And we get a release date of 1/26/07.  Yay!

Being a Hollywood Pictures/Spyglass production, we might get to see a big screen trailer on the upcoming movies The Guardian and/or The Prestige.  I plan to see The Prestige in the theatre so I'll let you guys know if The Invisible is trailered on it.  Wow, hey, we finally have an actual official date for something!  Woohoo!

As for the movie itself, I think it looks like a cool, funky little thriller.  I'm excited.

Yeah, me too!! The movie looks real good. Like something I'd go see even if Chris wasn't in it. And, who knows, if it makes it Germany, it's not completely unlikely that they show it without dubbing. Maybe I'll get lucky after all. Cross your fingers for me, will you? I'm not counting on anything before summer 2007, though.

But is it just me, or does it look like Chris is not gonna be a huge part of the movie? To me it looked like he might in a handful of scenes, but that we'll mostly see Justin and the girl (can't remember her name).

And I LOVE the hair! That was also what I was most curious about before I saw it.

I'm currently adding the five caps I snagged to our gallery. smile

Thanks for posting that, Anne! A fresh infusion of Chris. Whoohooo!! Just what I needed in these stressful times. Well, not stressful anymore because as of last night, I AM OFFICIALLY ON VACATAION!!! Yay!! <bounce bounce bounce>

It was also the right decision to wait until this morning to watch the trailer. I would not have been able to appreciate it enough last night.

Re: The Invisible

Holy wowzers!  Thanks for making caps for us from the two seconds Chris got in the trailer.  To me, it seems like he'll be a big part of the movie before Justin's character dies, but not so much after.  Oh well, I'll take it.  And not a comedic horndog for once, which is all we've had on the big screen so far.  How nice!

Re: The Invisible

Yeah, I'll totally take it too, no matter how many scenes Chris has. Maybe I could even drag Lars to the theater with me for this one, even though he kinda shies away from anything that has Chris in it. I think he might be of the impression that I'll start screaming like GirlyScream-Chris when he comes on the screen, embarrassing him in front of all the other viewers. LOL (Naw, I'll just quietly sit in my chair and melt like a puddle and drool in solitude. Lars might have to pick me up from the floor afterwards, though.)

And his voice was sooooo deep in the trailer. Loved that!!! Even though he only had one line.

PS: He's wearing a hoodie without a hood. So it's an "ie". tongue I have one like those, but it's brown with pink writing on the back.

LOL! Oh God, this is the first morning I didn't go online right after getting up and then that happens!
Girl, I second everything you said. big_smile

Love the hair. Love the voice. I will definitely watch the movie. I once would have had the chance to see the original,  but I didn't. I guess, the movie will be good, though. Please cross your fingers for ME that I will find a place near here where they show it English. I'm not going to watch the dubbed version.

I don't know how big his role is in the movie, but I guess it's not that big but also not too small. But still he's in the movie, so I'm going to see it. But yeah, the movie looks quite interesting, so I would probably watch it even without Chris, too.

And hey, no need to thank me. I know we needed this little input of "Fresh Chris". big_smile Finally we have something new to discuss, isn't that great? wink
