Maybe not all of you know that we've been working on writing recaps of all the JoA eps that focus on the Adam/Joan 'ship. You can get to them on the front page of the site in the JoA section under Adam & Joan. In the meantime, I'll post them here and maybe inspire some discussion. They include pics. We skipped the pilot because Adam's not in it. So here's the episode where Joan met Adam...

Oops, I found a typo.
We once again we are reminded that Adam seems to be a bit scatterbrained at times...
Gotta fix that when I get home.
We once again we are reminded that Adam seems to be a bit scatterbrained at times because he forgot his bag at Joan's place when they studied together. Grace tells Joan it's probably full of booyah schwag (meaning weed). You'd think Grace would know that Adam's not about that. But let's ignore for a minute the fact that the writer's obviously only decided around episode 12 that Adam and Grace had a long-lasting relationship as best friends from kindergarten on.
Actually, now I think this happened because at that point, the writers didn't know yet that Adam was going to become one of the main characters of the show. Chris told us that at first he was only supposed to do one episode. When they liked him in 1x02, they asked him to come back for six more episodes. And after that they asked him if he would stay on the show for the rest of its run. I guess it was only after those first six or seven episodes that they created a true backstory for Adam (and Grace) that differed a little from how they had written the relationship between Adam and Grace in the beginning of the show.

That always bothered me that Grace didn't know the real Adam and him not having a drug problem when they were best friends since kindergarden. Now I know it wasn't a mistake. Like you said, "You'd think Grace would know that Adam's not about that. But let's ignore for a minute the fact that the writer's obviously only decided around episode 12 that Adam and Grace had a long-lasting relationship as best friends from kindergarten on." Great recaps!
