The Tic Code

We don't have this thread yet? Shame!

Here is something I noticed a while ago ... the English DVD version and the German DVD version have different covers. And I think this is the first time I love the German cover more than the original one. If there is a difference. I mean, it's a Chris movie and there isn't a picture of him. They didn't even put his name on the cover! This is one of the most remarkable performances of a brilliant actor at a very young age and they did not put his name on the cover? Hello? Who was the brain behind? roll

Okay, I think I am going to watch the movie again tomorrow and try to write something about it. I can't watch JoA at the moment but I want to do something for the website.

Re: The Tic Code

That often happens with kid actors who are not famous, that they get no recognition even when they play the main character.  If he'd been one of the Disney kids in the 50s, 60s and 70s, you would never see his name on the poster or the box art.  Disney had these two kids, Tommy Kirk and Kevin Corcoran and they were huge stars in the Disney stable, starting out as Mousketeers.  But their names were never on the posters for the movies they did, like Old Yeller, The Shaggy Dog, etc.  The only exceptions to this were Hayley Mills, Jodie Foster and Kurt Russell, and I suspect that's because their very smart parents forced the issue.

Re: The Tic Code

The Tic Code was fantastic, and Chris was incredible.  When I saw him on the TBAA episode "An Angel On My Tree" I honestly thought they'd hired an actor with Tourette's.  This is an odd little movie, but I wish it had gotten more recognition, because I think more people should see it.  I suspect it's one of those little-known movies that slipped under most people's radar.  The movie did a great job of showing just how very difficult it can be for a child with any type of disability, especially one that's so noticeable.  I loved the fact that Miles had the solace of the piano.  That was at least one outlet for his emotions that might have been hard to express any other way.

Re: The Tic Code

Oh yes, Chris was fantastic both in TTC and the TBAA episode. Did you notice that his tics were different in either of those? That, in itself, is quite an accomplishment and shows once again how much of a talented actor he is. I also loved the message of TTC, that you don't have to be an outsider when you have an illness or a disability of some sort.

Chris himself was also very proud of this movie. In our interview, he said that it was his ultimate career goal, to do something like the The Tic Code again that he can be proud of as much as he is of this movie. I hope he gets the chance to work on something along those lines in the future.

Re: The Tic Code

The Tic Code is a wonderful movie and the TBAA episode was also great. Being handicapped in a way myself, I know what it's like to be considered as "not normal" just because I don't look like "normal" people. This is why I love that movie so much. I think Chris can indeed be proud of his performance in TTC and I would really like to see him again in a role like this.

I get this message when I click the link above:
The selected album/file does not exist !

I can't see any TTC album in the albums list either. It's like the album doesn't exist in the gallery. And it makes no sense whatsoever that it would appear to you, Deb, but not to me. Can you try to reload a couple of times and see if the album's still there?

Okay, I found them after all. Anne put in a wrong link and I was too blind to find them the "other" way. Gonna look at them in detail later.

Re: The Tic Code

Nope, never seen it.  That is such a cute pic.  Man, you know what would be cool?  A nice glossy copy of it for Chris to sign.  God, I miss Gregory Hines.

Re: The Tic Code

Yeah, from that angle with that expression, he looks like himself and not some other person, like he sometimes does in the kid parts, to me.  That looks like little Chris.  Maybe even little Adam.  I often think about that.  What Adam looked like when he was 12 and his mom died.  Chris at 12 looked way younger than that.  We should find the perfect Adam at 12 pic somehow.

You see, that's something else that I love about the movie. big_smile
Yeah, I also often think about how Adam looked when he was 12, not only because I am writing a fanfiction with flashbacks back to the time when he was. And yeah, the eyebrows. LOL

Re: The Tic Code

OK, I'm very tired, it's very late for me and I've been very rude.  Welcome Peek!  And good on you for having seen so much of Chris's work!  We'll talk more I'm sure.  Tonight I'm playing a bit of catch-up here as I try to wind down from the FX Show, a scruffy smooch on the cheek and another big hug from Chris.  Forgive my manners.

And look back here for pics hopefully Monday.

Re: The Tic Code

Here's something I found in a scientific paper from the UK, called The Lancet:

Book: Tourette talk

In this insightful book, 9-year-old Dylan Peters describes Tourette's syndrome as being "like your brain has a mission to annoy you". When, aged 4 years, Dylan was diagnosed with the syndrome, he vowed to keep it a secret. But during the next 5 years, as his tics increased in regularity and severity, he realised that this would not be possible. Dylan recounts how he came to accept the syndrome and decided to talk with his classmates about why he "double-blinks, gurgles and clears his throat a lot".

Tic Talk: Living with Tourette Syndrome is written by Dylan and is beautifully illustrated by his best friend Zachary Wendland. Despite his fears of being teased, Dylan explains Tourette's syndrome to his classmates and is surprised to discover that many of his friends had not even noticed his tics. Contrary to his fears, Dylan is relieved to find that his classmates are fascinated by Tourette's syndrome and that no-one makes fun of him. Tic Talk highlights the innocent qualities of acceptance shown by young children and how differences can be used to foster tolerance of others from a young age. Dylan's story offers a valuable lesson to be passed on to young patients and their parents.

Jane Godsland
jane.godsland@lancet.com

Wonder if Chris would be interested in reading this, having played a kid with Tourette's twice.

Re: The Tic Code

i finally saw it!!!!!! wow, this is such a wonderful movie. the acting ( in my non expert opinion ) is great all around. chris is defenitly stealing the show!!! but also gregory hines and polly draper. i think i am a litlle in love with the movie right now. :embarrassed:
i wonder how can some adults be such idiots ( i mean miles's father )? i know this is a movie but there lots of men that think if the kid is not perfect than something must be wrong with his dick, and god forbid anybody would ever think that!!! ok, feeling better now, sorry for bursting out :embarrassed:
i'm thinking about finding the romanian translation and making my mum watch it too big_smile

Re: The Tic Code

Oh, I'm so glad you saw TTC, Irina.  We all love that movie so much.  And Chris does too.  You heard (or read) in our October interview with him that it's the single thing he's most proud of in his career and what he longs to get back to.  I've seen it three times myself and it blows me away every single time.

Have you seen Chris play another kid with Tourette's in Touched By An Angel?  It's also an amazing performance.  We have it here on the Media page if you haven't checked it out yet.  And one thing that's refreshing about it is that his dad in the ep really loves him and doesn't see his tics as something that makes him less than perfect.  It rips me to shreds every time I watch it.  In a good way.

It's nice to see you again.

smile
