This isn't a slow news day, is it?  I don't have anything to say about Michael Jackson that hasn't already been said, ad nauseum.  My heart goes out to his children, if he really didn't make it.

Re: Jacko had a heart attack

I didn't always approve of some of his personal choices and i did often refer to him as a "freak" or an "alien", but that man was not only a talented singer but also a music legend. He made some fantastic songs with some fanstatic videos and it has really made me upset to see breaking news that he has died.

Re: Jacko had a heart attack

I loved him when he was young, cute and black.  Not so much when he started doing all that weird stuff to himself.  I almost feel like the "real" Michael Jackson died after the Bad album.  I listened to his friend, Dick Gregory talk to Mark Thompson about him on the way home from work.  Very sad.

I just hope he has peace.  Unless he was singing or dancing he always came across as being so strained to me. R.I.P

Re: Jacko had a heart attack

While Michael Jackson's death is tragic and sad, I must say that I'm shaking my head at all the fuss that's being made. It's almost like when Diana died... Yes, of course he's an icon in the music world, but I don't understand how people who don't even know the guy in person can say they don't feel fit to work because they're grieving for his death. I'm actually kinda glad that I'm not living in the US, where I'd probably have to put up with a week of seeing Mr. Jackson's face on every TV channel at regular intervals. Maybe I'm a little too German to understand what all the fuss is about.

That said, my condolences to Michael's friends and family. He's certainly been a controversial character for most of his adult life, and some of his songs transport me back to the times when I was a teen.

Yes, actually we did: http://www.chris-marquette.com/forum/vi … php?id=765 What a tragic day.

Re: Jacko had a heart attack

Thank you TJ right ater I wrote that comment I noticed another board dedicated to it.
I think some people will use any excuse to claim they are not fit to work.  I think the real tradegy is how young he was when he died and how sudden it seemed.  He made his contribution to the world and it spoke to many people just like Diana (but in different ways obviously).

Re: Jacko had a heart attack

He broke Google last night, did you guys hear?  So many people were looking for news about his death that Google crashed and it took 35 minutes to get it back up and running.  So I guess it's not just TV people being exploitative, it's people all over the world actually clammoring for news.

It was indeed everywhere last night.  My normal evening of Keith Olbermann & Rachel Maddow became wall-to-wall coverage of MJ on MSNBC.  I was online so I just let it play in the background.

I'm actually kinda glad that I'm not living in the US, where I'd probably have to put up with a week of seeing Mr. Jackson's face on every TV channel at regular intervals.

Gee, now you know how I feel about a certain ubiquitous face I can't stand.  But at least the MJ stuff will fade in a few days.  The face that dogs me everywhere I go is utterly inescapable and not going anywhere anytime soon.

Personally, I'm a little sad that MJ took all the attention away from Farrah's passing.

And since I am in the throes of yet another attack by Mother Nature right now (3rd time in 6 weeks), I was already in pain and feeling quite miserable yesterday.  Just a lousy day all the way around.

Uhm, not quite. I don't cultivate a somewhat irrational hatred of Michael Jackson. If I was watching regular TV, I think I'd just be annoyed if anything I'd wanna watch was being cancelled to be replaced by another MJ retrospective. But since I don't watch regular TV, I guess the point is moot.

Oh, and can we please not talk about how much you hate Shia LaBeouf in every third post? It's getting really old. Or else I'm gonna start posting photos and screencaps of the guy at random intervals in different Chris-related threads.

You ought to try living in LA.  It's local news here, so there is even more coverage.  Plus there will be who knows how many messes created by the hoopla.

Re: Jacko had a heart attack

Yeah, that would fix everything.  Maybe it won't be so bad after this weekend when the movie opens and they can stop with the constant hard sell.  I can only hope.

You really don't understand because you're not here.  He's on the front page of every website i visit --- even my political site Huffington Post.  He's all over TV.  I can't walk through a strore without seeing 5 magazine covers with that face.  He's even on the side of freakin' buses for God's sake!  And even if my hatred is irrational, it's not something I can just turn off.  Try being bombarded everywhere you go for a solid week by something that sets your teeth on edge and then maybe you'll know what this week has been like for me.  Imagine the one thing that bugs you to no end and then imagine having it dog you to the point where you just want to scream and run away.

I can't even get away from him on my own message board.  If you and everyone else can't find even the tiniest modicum of empathy, then I don't know what to tell you.

Re: Jacko had a heart attack

I have to say, although I was never a fan of Michael Jackson, I was kind a shocked to hear about his death this morning, but maybe I was just having a creepy time because last night when I turned on the computer I read that Farrah Fawcett died and this morning I turned on the TV and Michael Jackson is dead. May he rest in peace.

Re: Jacko had a heart attack

I don't know if you guys have heard of her, but i there was someone here in the UK called Jade Goody. Now Jade was not talented, lost both times on a reality show and at one point was the most hated woman in the UK. It was only when dying from cancer, that she tried to do some good and raise money for her kids (which apparently seems to now be spent on her husband). Well the point i'm trying to make is that was the reality show personality did die on Mother Day, the media attention she got for her death in this country was pretty much identical to what Jacko is getting.

Re: Jacko had a heart attack

I worked the morning shift today and a guy I work with, Tony, was at the registers with me and I told him yesterday about MJ, but he really had a customer going.

Customer: did you hear about Michael Jackson?
Tony (stupid look on his face): No.  What do you mean?
Customer: he died last night!
Tony:  ... ma'am, he's been dead for over a month.

I started cracking up and he kept going on her, and she believed him.  Then a supervisor came by and told him to stop abusing the customers.

LOL!  Wow, can't believe she fell for it.  She must not know how to use The Google or The Interwebs.  Or how to work a TV.

Re: Jacko had a heart attack

She was an older lady, so there's that chance.  As soon as he got yelled at, he apologized and the whole front of the store had a laugh.

There's only three guys who work there, but all three of them were making jokes about him all day.  Especially around Amey, who's in mourning.
