The Nine

I've been following this show on the Direct TV 101 channel, and I have to say that its a really nifty piece of work, and I dunno how I managed to miss out on it when it first aired on ABC back in '06 (I was probably too hung up on LOST, as I still am). A propos of LOST, The Nine does have a similar format, I guess you'd say.

It also has a JoA connection -- Tom Garrigus did the same job(s) on The Nine that he did on JoA. He last worked on the creepy sounding (to me) Swingtown. I might have to check that out now. He does good work.

Re: The Nine

Yeah, I loved that show.  Great cast.  I was very disappointed that it didn't last.  A co-worker and I share a mutual affection for Tim Daly and we were beginning to wonder if he was a curse to any new TV show he was in.  We also loved Eyes, which was even more quickly canceled than The Nine.  But now he's finally on a successful show, Private Practice, and all is right with the world.

I think that Direct TV/101 is going to show EYES, at some point. I like Tim Daly, too. Have since he was the "serious" guy in "Diner," one of my all time fave movies. He was also good on The Sopranos, but ended up getting shot in the head !

Re: The Nine

Yep, found the boy in Diner myself.  Also one of my all time faves.  Saw it in the theater and I've got it on DVD and it's where I picked up my french fries and brown gravy habit.  wink

I wish I had DirecTV.  I'd get to see Season 4 orf Friday Night Lights a LOT sooner.

Back in high school, fries and gravy (of the brown variety) were pretty much a staple in the caf. I asked for fries and gravy once in a Phoenix burger joint & they gave me fries smothered with "country" gravy, which was not as icky as it sounds.

Re: The Nine

Fries with brown gravy is finally getting around, outside Baltimore.  I can get it at some diners and delis here in GA.  And when we had dinner with Mike Welch at The Waffle in LA, they had it as a menu item.  So that's what I ordered.  Mike tried some and liked it too.  I don't remember if anyone else tried some.  It was perfectly cooked, fresh cut waffle fries in a big white bowl, with a cup of very good brown gravy on the side.  Leave it to Hollywood to try to make something swanky out of something so simple.  big_smile

Re: The Nine

Do Yanks ever put brown vinegar on fries, or is that just a Brit/Canadian thing ?

Re: The Nine

Yes, usually when we are trying to have "authentic" fish & chips.  I also do at this Mediterranean place I go to.

You threw me off with the living in Phoenix, but you always did sound British to me, Shell.  How'd you end up in Arizona?

My Mum & Dad & older brother were all originally from the UK. My younger brother & sister & older sister are fellow Canadians. I ended up in Arizona largely due to Patty (the wife). We "met" in an online chat room, then graduated to talking on the phone, and, after "knowing" each other for three months met in Las Vegas in 1998.
We were married eleven years ago this coming August 19th big_smile

I like malt vinegar on baked potatoes, too.  But I'm weird.

It's really good.  Not as good as bacon and cheese and sour cream, you understand.  But tasty.

Re: The Nine

Oh, I can imagine.  I'm really stuck on salt & vinegar potato chips these days.  It makes perfect sense.
